It’s so great seeing how many people are still moved by the song. It’s so simple, and not something you would think is so powerful. But it somehow captures magic and innocence and hope. And most of all, love. It is such a nostalgic feeling that I am transported to every time I hear it.
I sang this to my babies when they're still in my tummy :) and still sing this to my kids to bed now!! It was one of my favorite movie and song - there was about 20 years between when I watched the movie and when I got my kids but I remembered every word!!
I thank God for parents like you to sing something so wonderful to your children and show them good films that teach us who we really are may your children grow up and change the world for the better, love is the key...
I agree with that I'm one of those kids who grew up watching Disney movies from the 1980's starting with the Little Mermaid which came out back in 1989
Totally. I've grown severely tired of all the 3D CGI big budget films of the modern era. Even if 80s animation had its faults, there was still an ambition and drive to create great animated art, sometimes outside of the studio system, as was showcased with The Secret Of NIMH and The Brave Little Toaster, and Japanese animation really flourished during that era as well.
God this song is beautiful! :.) To me, this song would be the anthem of hope. I have become a very sarcastic, cynical person conditioned through years of the consistent gaunlet of disappointment life has seemed to routinely deliver without fail. Listening to this gorgeous song as an adult has brought me back to a more innocent time as a child where I can find my hope in life again. :.)
I know exactly how cruel this world is. Wish it wasnt that way. This song also reminds me of being young and not having to worry about the worlds problems.
The 65 people who had the unmitigated gall to dislike this have never had the opportunity to watch and appreciate a movie of such caliber as that which The Secret of NIMH provides.
happy 40th anniversary secret of nimh!!! :3 favorite don bluth work along with the land before time, dragon's lair/space ace,all dogs go to heaven & an american tail.
It's an shame that Disney rejects of making Secret Of NIMH when Don Bluth suggests to them, but we glad Bluth left the company and made this masterpiece.
I sing this song every night to my little son. He loves it even though he doesn't understand the lyrics as English isn't our native language. I hope it will be as special for him as it was for me, when i was a little kid
There's only one other animated movie I think is as good, and that's Watership Down. Both movies hold up strong decades later too. You don't need to be a kid to really enjoy them. :)
Alex Palmer The same guy who made Watership Down also did a film called the Plague Dogs. about 2 dogs that escape from a test laboratory. It is heart breaking but such a strong story.
It doesn't help that the MGM family entertainment became cartoon network which means all of the people who could bring this stuff back have long left the industry if the current state of the channel is any indication
God hearing this song takes me instantly back to being 5 years old again. I'll be 31 this year, and this is still not only one of my favorite animated movies, or one of my favorite childhood movies, but one of my favorite movies period. This song in particular makes me misty eyed, thinking of my mother.
Automatic water fountains for me with this song... 😭 I have to be in a pretty foul mood to not have my heart softened at least a little by this unmistakably angelic, Celestial music...
I am 8 the secret of nimh was on the hbo channel yesterday I watched it with my mom and I heard the credit song and I was like wow so graceful and I didn't pay attetion so I will watch it again
my favorite song will be lean on for a while now but I have a feeling that I am obbsessed with the movie to me it is like the jungle book cuz of the anamaton but they are completly different storys :)
This gave me Nostalgia Chills last night. I found my VHS of Secret of Nimh and I just had to rewatch it. I remember watching it so much back in 4th grade that I made my own comic series of it based on a Fanfiction movie I made. And I remember hearing the soundtrack and this song a lot and rewatching just made me super happy and gave me great memories 😌
I find it impossible to listen this song and not cry. I used to have this on VHS and I watched it over and over and over again as a child. I showed it to my daughter and I still remembered many of the lines by heart. How Paul Williams managed to take this inexpressible feeling we all have and express it so poignantly and beautifully and perfectly, I'll never know. It's downright miraculous.
Love the story of the Secret of NIMH. My grown sons, so enjoyed this movie and this particular song. This is a beautiful song. Thanks for sharing it with us.
One of very few movies I remembered when I was a little kid. An exciting movie with excellent animation and powerful soundtrack. Those were good times...
I am 48 years old and still feel the need to watch this movie every few years. Just got done watching it. Wanted to see if anyone had every done this song professionally and saw this.
A truly beautiful song from one of Don Bluth's best films! Everything about this version works perfectly together. The lovely lyrics, Paul Williams's warm vocals, and Jerry Goldsmith's fantastic score all come together to form a wonderfully romantic retooling of the Sally Stevens lullaby that appears within the film. Such a fantastic film and song from a bygone era of animation that was special in every way!
My husband and I used this song, this version, during a short rose ceremony during our wedding to honor our mothers and deceased loved ones that couldn't be there. Everyone seemed to love it, and I'm glad we got to use it.
My first favorite Don Bluth movie song ! So warm and gentle! Like this version the best too. When I finally got the CD in my twenties I cried happy tears!
only a few selected songs in my lifetime that made me cry a tear for no apparnt reason. This is one of them. Dam onions. *sobs....maybe i miss my childhood, ....my departed momma. :(
Lovely comment Benjamin and agree. Can understand why it can remind you of a departed love one you miss, reminds me of mine and she loved this film long ago, as i always have done :)

Despite not growing up with this film and just watched it a few days. All I have to say its beautiful classic witch I personly think is underrated. If you want a movie with Heart and the Power of fantasy this masterpiece is worth the watch.
Thank you for posting "Flying Dreams" by Paul Williams. I love his rendition and it is impossible to find. Thank you again for taking your time to share this touching song.
Animation and story telling at its finest. I adore this song, it is so peaceful and full of hope. Today's movies just don't leave you with this kind of feeling. The movie was made in 1982 and we are still talking about it. All of our dreams fly when we hear this beautiful melody.
toxic tabby I truly believe that music like this is what I would call "Celestial" music. This kind of music transcends genre, from certain movie themes, to certain popular songs (more in the past, like some of the Carpenter's songs), to much of the classical works that have more "heart".
The book is a must! I kept putting it off, but now it's one of my favorites at the age of 15. I'd have to say I read it at least once every month or so. It doesn't take too long, I was able to read it aloud to my little sister at a few chapters a day, so about a week. It's mildly different from the book, in the sense that there is no magical stuff in it. Still a very good read, I recommend it to just about everyone.
Did you see how the Lord of the Rings trilogy ended? I believe it was a song like this, with illustrated cast members. Brilliant old school touch by Peter Jackson going back to films and moments exactly like this one.
Dangeresquelover Allow me to emulate the thoughts of those who dislike this song; AHEM "What?! Where da money and da boobs n butts?! It no good, don't tuch mah lief, i had bad chieldhood, no dark gritty lectric gweetar mske me feel da pane (window) beefhor i was ehdult."

They're currently in pre-production to make a live-action/cgi comedy reboot in the vein of Alvin & the Chipmunks. How they plan on making the story funny, I have no idea... and I honestly hope the project fails before it begins.
Ugh, I miss films like this. When was the last time we had a film that focused more on drama and wonder, rather than cheap laughs or pop-culture references.
One of my favorite songs of all time! Wish there were still animated movies like this. The last movie that I remember Don Bluth working on was Titan AE, loved it. Wish animated movies were still like this classic:)
watched this movie as a little kid. just watched it again in my late teens and I am convinced that It is on e of the most beautiful and sincere creations that is more mature than the modern films beig made today. love is the key thank you
PatMC Mcgill I'm genX just lost my dad two months ago. Hadn't teared up at all until I heard this again and lost it. He used to watch this movie with us and helped me set the vcr to tape it lol
This was my sister's favorite movie. She would play it all the time, and this song randomly came to head from her playing it so much when younger. Great movie.
Mr. Williams if you watch this, this will be the song I walk my daughter down the aisle to. Thank you for your work Sir, it has impacted my life greatly and added an element of joy that only music can.
I actually watched this movie for the first time a few days ago, and I can completely see the intrinsic beauty within not only this song, but also this movie. I was really impressed by it. even without nostalgia goggles, this movie is a masterpiece of work, and should be cherished by many more generations. Don Bluth, you are amazing
OMG.....I havent heard this song or seen the movie in over 30 years. Glad I stumbled on to this on, ty for the upload and those Rats. Dragon the cat was always my fav, and of course Dom Deluise (RIP) being in it made the comedy. Dom was funny as hell. To all of us that remember this from our 80s childhood..we had the best Music, Movies (especially horror movies ), and Saturday morning cartoons. No IPHONE can beat an 80s Saturday morning cartoon block of all morning to afternoon.
This is the most beautiful and heartwarming song from a movie I've ever heard.
41 years later this is still the best thing Don Bluth ever did. Absolutely amazing all these years later.
It’s so great seeing how many people are still moved by the song. It’s so simple, and not something you would think is so powerful. But it somehow captures magic and innocence and hope. And most of all, love. It is such a nostalgic feeling that I am transported to every time I hear it.
My wife and I had this sung at our wedding in 1986. Still brings a tear to my eye!
One of the best movies of any generation!
This movie is Spirited Away level talent.
This predates spirited away and i know
@@andrewbrooks7122 it does, but it deserves more recognition 💕
Had Don Bluth made the other films before working with Spielberg he would've been the Miyazaki of America.

Yes
No way your heart doesn't soar often if you grew up with this masterpiece of a movie and song.
Hit by nostalgia. My mother said she used to sing this song to me when I was a baby. It holds a special place in my heart.
+MoonPrincess28 That is just beyond precious :)
Awwww! That's so adorable!!
I sang this to my babies when they're still in my tummy :) and still sing this to my kids to bed now!! It was one of my favorite movie and song - there was about 20 years between when I watched the movie and when I got my kids but I remembered every word!!

No one could have sung this better! Paul Williams was born to sing this. I can listen to it for hours. Watched the movie on TV just now, too!
This song reminds me of my childhood so much.
Who agrees that 80's animated movies had a magical feel to them that has since been lost in the newer animated movies. Especially Don Bluth.
I agree with that I'm one of those kids who grew up watching Disney movies from the 1980's starting with the Little Mermaid which came out back in 1989
The 80's seemed like a magical time for a kid. As for Don Bluth, he was at his peak in the 80's.

Totally. I've grown severely tired of all the 3D CGI big budget films of the modern era. Thank you, Mr. Paul Williams, for the love and light you penned (and performed) here and elsewhere in your amazing career. Thank you.
yes, thank you Mr. Paul Williams, have you ever seen Paul Williams on The Muppet Show?
Of all non-Disney animated movie songs, this one right here is above them all. 🙂❤❤
Especially among the ones made by Disney's first real competition in terms of animated movies, Don Bluth.
It's an shame that Disney rejects of making Secret Of NIMH when Don Bluth suggests to them, but we glad Bluth left the company and made this masterpiece.
This song does crazy things to my emotions. So many memories of bawling my eyes out whilst watching this film as a child.
My mom sang this song to me when i was a kid. Now I'm a grown man and it still puts me right to sleep. 😴
I sing this song every night to my little son. He loves it even though he doesn't understand the lyrics as English isn't our native language.
I hope it will be as special for him as it was for me, when i was a little kid
goosebumps...seriously this brings back tons of memories...my naive and happy childhood
This movie was one of my favorites when I was a kid. Great storyline, great music, and great animation. Not an everyday combination.
There's only one other animated movie I think is as good, and that's Watership Down. Both movies hold up strong decades later too. You don't need to be a kid to really enjoy them. :)

+jonainwood Traditional animation. And yes, it's unfortunate that animated films nowadays are preferably done by computer.

Top 5 for sure.
Definitely one of Don Bluth's best before sequel syndrome set in. This and the original Land Before Time.

Yup. I remember poring over TV guide and then waiting all month for it to be on HBO. It was an event for me.
Jerry Goldsmith was a brilliant composer.
It's simply impossible to hate this song cause it has an emotional feeling to it and that you can't mess with.
