I only noticed on a rewatch that the musical clue in the invitation box is also directly telling us the structure of the film. “A fugue is a beautiful musical puzzle… layered back over itself it starts to change and turns into a … new structure.” When Helen/Andi is shot, the story also loops back onto itself and changes what we already saw to show a new and different meaning when it replays the same scenes.
Jessica Henwick as Peg is so damn adorable in this. One of my favourite little details in this is the brief shot where she's writing her name on the red solo cup. It's a great subtle visual gag.
A detail I love is that Miles explaining his Disruption Theory is basically telling the audience how this movie ends. “If you want to shake things up, you start with something small. But you go with things that people are kind of tired of anyway. Will you break more things? Bigger things? Are you willing to break the thing that nobody wants you to break? Because at that point people are not going to be on your side. But that is what true disruption is.” Helen starts with the little pointless glass statues. The others start cheering for her and joining in. Then she starts breaking other things like the bar, and the others start getting skittish. Then, of course, it all leads up to the big thing. The Mona Lisa. And everything calls out for her to stop. But of course, Helen being the true Disrupter of the movie, does not stop.
The guy talking about Bach at Kate Hudson's party is Yo Yo Ma, probably the most famous cellist in the world. Joseph Gordon-Levitt did the sound of the Hourly Dong. He also co-wrote "The Last of Shiela" a fantastic 1973 whodunnit movie that directly inspired the bones of Glass Onion (a man invites his friends to a weekend of mystery game and it ends in murder). And Kareem Abdul-Jabbar... Not going to lie, I have nothing for why he was there.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar published a novel about Sherlock Holmes' brother Mycroft, that's why he's in the movie. He loves detective stuff. I didn't know that until people kept explaining it in comment sections, so I'm passing it on too lol.

“Poker Face” is Rian Johnson’s new murder-solving series on Peacock. It’s a good concept. We know who committed the murder, but the main character solves it every episode.
Love, love, love this movie. Love seeing you react to it. I think it was as good as, but way more fun than Knives Out. Also great to see Kate Hudson and Kathryn Hahn together again. I was lucky to get to meet them when they were filming How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days in Toronto. I was in the scene where Kate first meets Matthew McConaughey. Kathryn goes up to the bar to get some drinks and makes eyes at some guy who blows her off. That was Me! Lol. Lots of fun!
Helen looks so like the Mona Lisa at the end. Ambiguous expression, framed totally the same and leaves it up to the audience to decide if she's done. Don't know if it was deliberate but feels like it 🤌
I'll give Miles this - he knew how to invest in his friends. Most of them probably wouldn't have had the careers they had without his support. Even Birdie, who was already famous, repeatedly needed his help to keep from tanking herself. Then consider how he became Andi's partner in the first place. He knew she had a good idea (he probably didn't understand it, but he could see that she did and was excited about it) so the only way I could see him getting to be her business partner would be if he scraped some money together to invest in her idea right from the very start. But then again he also knew when to call in those favors to replace the best pair of coat-tails he was riding on. The song "Glass Onion" by the Beatles was about how people were looking too deeply into their lyrics for meaning and secret clues, when they were just trying to make fun rock songs. The thing about this series of mysteries is that the real question isn't just "who done it," it's also "what was done" and "how was it done."
I assumed Miles' involvement with Alpha was not so much that he had money to contribute, but that it is easier for a mediocre white man to raise money for a tech venture than for a brilliant black woman.
Technically he dressed as Steve Jobs (so did Andi in one of the flashbacks). But Tom Cruise's character is partly a parody of Steve Jobs, and it's possible Miles only ever watched Magnolia and had no clue about Jobs.
Rian Johnson didn't want it to say "a Knives Out mystery". That was a decision made by the studio. Hopefully for the next one it'll just say "a Benoit Blanc mystery".
Yeah I enjoyed this a little more than Knives Out, if only because this one felt sillier / more fun. I was left guessing over who did what to whom and why right until the end, the writing was top notch, as was the acting (really hated everyone except for our two heroes). Just fun and satisfying, as these things should be.
I know im a year late to this, but just now I noticed that Derol is the same actor that played Trooper Wagner in Knives Out! He was the fanboy cop lmao
Great reaction, and I gotta say, I can't decide which I like more, the wavy hair of the previous few vids or this hair. You look great regardless, looking forward to all your future reactions.
You should watch “Brick” by the same director of this film. Brilliant neo noir starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and also has Noah Segan who played Derol in Glass Onion.
You should definitely watch the movie again to see just how much is telegraphed right from the start. It tells us enough to solve the mystery if we are paying attention. For example the Andi/Helen twist is in Helen's first scene when she breaks open the box. Not only does it tell us this character wasn't smart enough to figure out the box when she probably should (no offence to Helen) but it showed Helen will destroy everything Miles has to get to the secret inside, which is exactly what happens. Also, I have noticed a lot of people sharing Easter eggs from the movie so here is one that not many pick up on. When we first see Miles on the beach he is playing a guitar and playing Blackbird by the Beatles. He tells Birdie the guitar is the one Paul McCartney wrote the song on. Paul McCartney is left handed and is playing a right handed guitar. Miles truly has no idea about anything he has.
It is not that Helen is not smart enough to open the box but that, like Marta in the first movie with the Thrombey's, Helen doesn't play the game Miles' and the shitheads' way. The joke is that it doesn't take a genius to open the box. It is not the shitheads who open the box. Everything that they figure out to open the box was given to them by Duke's disinterested mom.
8:35 I think the rosé had kicked in by this point, Angela. Fantastic video. I signed up for a subscription to Peacock so I could watch Rian Johnson's series _Poker Face_ with Natasha Lyonne. Four episodes in and I'm really digging it. I think you would as well. It's closer to HBO quality than anything I've seen on NBC, CBS or Fox in thirty years and the guest stars are bananas.
The thing about Miles is that they don't _say_ it out loud, but...he was already rich when he met the group. He was the one with money and connections, not ideas or brains. Which fits in with a _lot_ of modern billionaires, not just the guy with electric cars (which he did not create, he bought into the company and pushed out the original creator). That the electric car guy reacted so badly to this movie was, um, self-incriminating himself, basically.
oooo... didn't notice Miles slipping Duke the glass? Didn't notice "Helen" even with subs? Some detective, Angela. :) Actually took me a little while to realize that Deryl was the deputy inspector from Knives Out, who loved all the mystery stuff. Another great Rian Johnson movie! Great funny characters and story. A worthy successor to Knives Out! Janelle Monae's Mona Lisa smile was perfect. The Beatles' Glass Onion I heard all the time because I played the White Album all the time, so when I heard the title I figured, we'd hear that song in it somewhere, but they used the metaphor so well with it too. I think I still like Knives Out better because I really liked Ana DeArmas's Marta character, but lots to love with this one too. Great reaction as always, Angela! Now to watch the last Andor reaction.
I believe the whole “knives out mystery” tag was just for market ability. I’m pretty many people remember the character of Benoit Blanc. But I don’t think most would necessarily remember his name. The movie title on the other hand that has much better name recognition.
Someone probably already mentioned it, but the allusion to the lyrics from the Beatles and “glass onions” makes a lot of sense. As it’s one of those non-sense words from their psychedelic period that John intentionally put in the lyrics when he found out people were over analysing their songs. Though in johns case he was taking the piss. Miles basically is like this, but he he unintentionally just saying a lot of stupid non-sense things because he’s an idiot, but others take it as genius.
Totally bears rewatching, there's way more foreshadowing and clues than you realise or expect. I only just saw on this reaction that when Miles gets up to run away during the lights out scene, he's hiding behind the table where he stashed the gun, and when he gets up he has the gun in his hand in plain sight. I honestly though I'd figured out all the clues but that was a new one.
Two things. First, This movie inherits a lot from the whodunnits that came before, including "The Last of Sheila" cowritten by Stephen Sondheim (who had a cameo being on Zoom with Blanc). The movie has some... unenlightened moral stances, but is otherwise a very fun mystery. Second, I agree that it's weird that this is "A Knives Out Mystery" and apparently so does Rian Johnson. He's come out to say that any future sequels will be subtitled "A Benoit Blanc Mystery".
"Unenlightened moral stances" Hahaha! To me this movie was more a character study of the types of people Miles and the shitheads were more than a murder mystery. But I'm there for it.
The nice thing about this is that everything was done in camera, so that on rewatching it all the clues are there. Although I admit that it does kind of derail the denouement when you notice Miles (Norton) actually hands Duke (Battista) his own drink the first time you watch it. 😐
Interesting. I was the opposite. Once Ransom clearly stated he hated his family and - this the key - wanted to help Marta *so that he could get his share* I found that believable. You weren't being asked to suddenly see him as a nice guy; just that wanted to get his money and so would help her - but for selfish reasons. Whereas, with Miles I thought (once it was established that he wasn't the victim) that it was probably him. But Johnson did just enough to keep me guessing a bit. All in all I loved both movies.
This movie was great !!! Even better watching you watching it and try to find clues and stuff! I don't know if you get what I mean my english has its limits 😜 Love from Québec miss!
You like Daniel Craig and twists. Layer Cake is the movie for you. And Daryl is absolutely his beer. Always sticking out but “He’s not part of this experience”
Loving these Rian Johnson movies, and while they are murder mysteries, it feels like it's not meant to be solved by the viewer, while certainly there are parts that are hinted or shown to us, there's plenty that isn't as well, I feel they are less about us obsessing about trying to catch these details, and just sit back, enjoy the ride/movie. There was no hints to the twins (While Helen's hair as Andi was parted on the other side, we didn't see real Andi until after the reveal), and the part with Duke at the pool mentioning almost getting hit, in the first scene he doesn't get the "Andi" out that they show us in the review later. Noah Segan (who plays Derol) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The voice for the Dong) Pretty much appear in all of Rian Johnson's movie in some fashion, in Knives Out Segan was one of the detectives where as once again JGL only appears as a voice, the detective in the show Marta's sister is watching at one point. I imagine others have pointed out the "Knives out Mystery" title thing, the studio sort of forced it to be recognizable, where as Rian Johnson is wanting the next one to indeed being "A Benoit Blanc Mystery". As always, enjoy the reactions.
@45:50 - Rian Johnson doesn't like that name either. He understands why they did it from a marking standpoint but he wants it subtitled as a Beniot Blanc Mystery if it needs to be subtitled at all. He said maybe they will be able to do that for the 3rd one.
Hello all! I enjoyed re-watching the movie. This is fun. Thank you. I had written a longer response then realized it had spoilers. Halle Berry a reference to her on the Hot Ones spicy wings show appearance? Leto played the joker. Doesn't seem like a coincidence how cray cray things get after that. Nice literary device. Along with the foil that Miles mentions. Clever writing. Johnson has Blanc tell THE Miles Bron in front of that painting that he's a jackass. Interesting commentary on shithead "disruptiors". Angela, you guessed it right from the start; the note. Also, the allergy. You are good at this. You even had a glass of wine at the start. My favorite part is when Blanc makes his offer at the end. What happens next is beautiful. English Gentleman used to keep a hermit on their land. Couldn't tell you why, seems like it might have something to do with corporate culture and controlling people and is maybe why it faded right up the annals of history. Pardon, but I felt the need for a little levity. Some humor to lighten things a little. 'Till next time. s
I liked Knives Out a lot and I think this movie is much better. The setting of the mystery story is very fun and overall just a well written movie that is tons of fun to watch.
❤ Snaps indeed. Great watching second time around! Maybe I don’t watch you enough but dig the hairdo and the smile :) Are you saying you have not watched Daniel Craig 007’s? Put them on your list. Starting w Casino Royale! ❤ Ps - Ryan Johnson did not want the Knives Out tag used as well. All Netflix on that one. -Cheers!
Err, except 1) There is noting dumb about the movie, its an excellently crafted movie 2) You are NOT supposed to agree with the statement, there is a reason the dumbest character in the movie made that statement and Blanc was offended So let me quote Benoit Blanc here who actually use the "so dumb its brillaint' line unironically, - This comment is just dumb
I think the reason they used knives out as part of the title was a simple way of saying this is in the same universe as knives out. if they had planned on having this sequel at the start they could have given a different name for the group of films but since they didn't it was an effective shorthand.
They used Knives Out because Netflix, who bought the rights, wanted them to for marketing purposes. Rian Johnson is on the record saying he didn't want it.
Oh, baring the end of the world, there'll be more Benoit Blanc movies. Netflicks didn't pay $450 million for one film. And both Johnson and Craig have said they're happy to keep making these. There'll be at least one more. Meanwhile, you can react to Poker Face, a mystery detective series by Johnson and Natasha Lyonne (who cameoed in Glass Onion).
When she calls the group shitheads, she's understating by a lot. Keep in mind that, though no one got a good look at the napkin before Miles burned it, everyone knows it was real because he burned it. But the real tell is that all of this happens AFTER the group learns that Miles murdered Andi and that he murdered Duke. They all know he's committed two homicides, both of them their own peers, and they still don't turn on him until they realize he's going to lose it all by being responsible for the destruction of the Mona Lisa.
Love your reactions. This movie plot is not original. In the 1976 movie "Murder By Death" Truman Capote invites famous detectives to solve a murder that will be committed at his dinner party. It's a mystery comedy and it's hilarious. Great cast including Peter Sellers, Peter Falk and David Niven.
It's a little off since it is an unrelated story, but I get why they did it. There was probably way more name recognition from Knives Out than Blanc. That might be less true next time, but the precedent is set. We'll see.

Rian Johnson fought to keep the name as just Glass Onion, but Netflix thought audiences would be too stupid to realize that it's a connected film.

This was a great reaction video 😆
Glad you had a great time 👍
Also did you notice that he dressed like Tom Cruise from the movie Magnolia? 25:17
Technically he dressed as Steve Jobs (so did Andi in one of the flashbacks). But Tom Cruise's character is partly a parody of Steve Jobs, and it's possible Miles only ever watched Magnolia and had no clue about Jobs.
Love your reaction "CALM DOWN"😂😂
Rian Johnson didn't want it to say "a Knives Out mystery".
I just noticed that Benoit calls 'Andi' Helen before she's shot. I didn't even notice it the first time before we knew that was her real name
I know im a year late to this, but just now I noticed that Derol is the same actor that played Trooper Wagner in Knives Out! He was the fanboy cop lmao
Rian Johnson didn't want the tag knives out added to it, but netflix mainly did it for marketing.
Loved this movie and looking forward to this reaction! Thanks for the upload - keep up the good work!
Great reaction, and I gotta say, I can't decide which I like more, the wavy hair of the previous few vids or this hair. You look great regardless, looking forward to all your future reactions.
I really enjoyed Bautista and Janelle Monae in this flick, I hope to see more of them both in future stuff!
With Karis Nemik from Andor and Helen Brand from this film, we got last year two of the most iconic rebel characters ever!
You have an absolutely perfect evil cackle.
You should watch “Brick” by the same director of this film. Brilliant neo noir starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and also has Noah Segan who played Derol in Glass Onion.
Brick is definitely worth a watch. The vibe of that movie is quite something.
The random duke is the same detective in the first Knives Out movie.
Okay Rosé lol nice pairing with the movie
@@godricbarbarossa8001 No, Helen admits she couldn't solve it when she meets Blanc for the first time.
This makes me happy that I’m seeing reactors to this awesome movie
oooh didn't expect this reaction can't wait to see how you react to certain things 🤣💕
oooo... didn't notice Miles slipping Duke the glass?
Miles just got the "Karma is a Bitch" XD #JusticeServe
There's a video explaining that Rian Johnson didn't want the "Knives Out Mystery" to be added to the title.
That was a helluva cackle at about 40 minutes in...
Yes there will be another film featuring Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, you should cheek out him as Bond start with Casino Royale you'll love it.
32:05 🤣🤣🤣 love it
Janelle Monae was a standout, so good
Interesting.
The mesh mask Kate Hudson is wearing is a reference to Lana Del Rey wearing one at an event and people giving her grief over it.
It is a miracle that Birdie remembers to breathe.
Adding "knives out" to the title was done by the studio, iirc. To get that Name Recognition value. I think it was unneeded as well.
Fun fact: Miles' self-portrait is actually Edward Norton's face on Brad Pitt's body in Fight Club.
I'll admit that when I first say it I thought it was a reference to Madonna saying Alex Rodriguez has a portrait of himself as a centaur.
'Till next time.
s
I just love that Blanc is so angry at the end because the villain’s plan was so stupid 😂
He was angry because he wanted a great case or even hard one .. turned to be stupid one
I liked Knives Out a lot and I think this movie is much better. The setting of the mystery story is very fun and overall just a well written movie that is tons of fun to watch.
❤ Snaps indeed. Great watching second time around! Maybe I don’t watch you enough but dig the hairdo and the smile :)
Are you saying you have not watched Daniel Craig 007’s? Put them on your list. Starting w Casino Royale! ❤
Ps - Ryan Johnson did not want the Knives Out tag used as well. All Netflix on that one. -Cheers!
“So dumb it’s brilliant.”
Sums up this entire movie more than I can put in a thousand words and I love that 😂
I just love how offended Benoit got by that sentence. 🤣
*NO!* IT'S JUST DUMB!
Err, except
1) There is noting dumb about the movie, its an excellently crafted movie
2) You are NOT supposed to agree with the statement, there is a reason the dumbest character in the movie made that statement and Blanc was offended
So let me quote Benoit Blanc here who actually use the "so dumb its brillaint' line unironically, - This comment is just dumb
That's not actually how the Mona Lisa would burn as it's actually painted onto a panel of wood rather than canvas
When you said you could call out predictable things? Nice 👌😂
Lovely reaction 😊❤🎉 miles and whiskey though 😂they were something besides janelle and Daniel I loved Edward norton he was a funny villain
I think someone told me in the books she's so smart she can calculate that stuff in her head. I shouldn't have doubted her.
Looking forward to your reaction for The Menu
Love your reactions. This movie plot is not original. In the 1976 movie "Murder By Death" Truman Capote invites famous detectives to solve a murder that will be committed at his dinner party. It's a mystery comedy and it's hilarious. Great cast including Peter Sellers, Peter Falk and David Niven.
intersting that mystery has another james bond. i do love it though
Great reaction, great movie, keep it up!
(I have to say you have great teeths, especially for someone who love coffee)
Rian Johnson didn't like that it had the knives out sub title. That was the studio's idea.
It's a little off since it is an unrelated story, but I get why they did it. There was probably way more name recognition from Knives Out than Blanc. That might be less true next time, but the precedent is set. We'll see.
Miles murdered Andi, murdered Duke, and tried to murder Helen, but apparently the "disruptors" were OK with that. They really are dumb.
Structurally, Glass Onion was totally different from the first Knives Out.
I can't watch your reaction to this yet because I haven't watched it yet. But I will watch and then this sometime after that!
