I have been playing this game since it was new and it a riot to watch you play. 3 hours in, I am probably going to be found grinding around Elfheim, scared shitless of the Marsh Cave.
The game doesn't have random encounters, they are actually all set from power on. I walk between a few different zones using that information to pick the best encounters in the area.
so ive got a horrer story for ya... this was actually one of the first games i was given... mario duck hunt// legend of zelda & then this... i had NO clue about equipment ... namely, how to equip it... and mages, dont get me started on mages... i trial and errored into a 4 fighter naked nightmare... and miricled my way through once i figured out that inns saved the game and was using potions to heal my guys... it was aweful, but i was determined... i think i was 6... i didnt have a manual... no nintendo power... no hints from anyone at school... didnt figure out that the light axe only damaged undead... the concept of undead wasnt even on my radar... i got the heal staff- and its like i had found an afterburner... the zuse gauntlet felt like cheating... found the mage staff and was stupified at actually being able to get through most of the rest of the game before getting so mad at all the useless equipmemt id bought and found... thinking anything other than softs, antidotes and chugging potions like chocolate milk... i literally had the airship and was inside the water temple when being so mad at being thrashed by enemies before the E- symbol popped up on my leaders coral sword.... baffled i plesanrly found my leader 1 shot a white shark that sometimes took 3 full rounds to kill... i was mad because i was out of potions again... id discovered how to actually start playing the game [ice cave had been so damn brutal] and all of a sudden- i could play... had a meltdown at the hands of Warmech... 4 fighters were thrashed by something i was convinced was cheating... happened to me the next time too... 3rd time i didnt encounter him and tiamat was easy by comparison... beat the game before i was 8 and i felt like the man// i went back to get my revenge on Warmech... actually beat chaos on my first go... i was very stupid back then, i just diddnt know// have a great day
Yeah a lot of us struggled back then, some more then others. I don't think I've heard of someone running through naked up until sea shrine though... That's a new one.
@@shanezell the things we do when we just dont know// weapons and armor, lugged them all, but i had no idea they werent actually using them largely due to the battle interface // selecting your gear that just 'did nothing' is where i got the idea to keep trying new gear till something happened... it was rough// dont reccomend attempting a recreation as it throws more than a few bones as is
03:47:40 Because Final Fantasy is based off of D&D and the failure is just simulating a "natural 1" roll. That means an automatic failure. The better question is why they didn't build out a morale system and then make the animation for Fear look so cool, but does nothing.
I'll assume that you're joking...but in case you aren't. It is impossible to play the whole game as an upgraded class from start to finish. You can only upgrade your class about halfway through the game.
You can't play the game without a party of 4. It's generally agreed that "solo" in these games means "all characters dead but one." And as Shane points out, you need to reach a certain point in the game to get Knight. To that end, when people speak of FF challenge runs, when you're doing official categories you refer to base job in runs where you're not allowing the class change ("four thieves" for instance) or the upgraded form when you are allowing it (like this video where it's "solo knight.") So I might do "four white mages" casually, but odds are I'll still upgrade them to white wizards. However, if I were doing a speedrun, I'd have to call it "four white wizards." In a "four white mages" speedrun I'm not allowed to upgrade.

To be fair: that's a valid reaction to Marsh Cave.
Marsh cave is scary, I die there in most of my runs. The fighter can even do the PoP if you want once you hit level 10 or so most likely.
Nicely done @ShaneZell ! Would have loved to see this live, but like a prophecy this run will live here forever.
whoa sub 4 and almost an entire half hour off your previous best, incredible run!
Nice, I was hoping to see you do a single knight run soon.
I was working on this run for around a month total. I finished my first run, but I wanted to make it much better.
Dang that Chaos battle was sooo easy, even for a Knight! Awesome!
It was easy this time...but Chaos took me out in many of my past attempts.
How are you running into to so many ogres and kyzokus outside of elfenheim?

I did this casually once and looking back I wish I'd known as much about the game as I do now.
Why does the sound, sound way off
@@craiggagnon5711 I don't know, sounds normal to me.

Umm... The title of this video says "Solo Knight Run" not 4 Fighter/Knight Run. Kind of misleading...

What a dogshit time.
