- Lifting my 80 series Land Cruiser with a 3.5" Dobinson's Long Travel Lift Kit! This kit has 3.5" heavy duty dual rate (VT) coils and 2.6" body IMS 6" shocks, and it's a huge upgrade compared to the worn out Old Man Emu parts that came with the truck. Now we have to order the rest of the parts to finish the lift, but it's looking good so far! Dobinson part numbers are C97-144VT, C97-145VT, IMS59-60684, IMS59-60685.

I found my 80 could tackle almost any track with no issues with only a 2inch lift and 33 inch tyres. But each to there own, love seeing 80 series owners working on there own rig.
For sure! I like how it looks with bigger tires. I don’t think I’d ever actually “need” larger than a 35. Good lines make all the difference but I really like how the 37s - 40s look.
Probably do the same set up on my lc80 3.5 long travel , currently on 35s

DELTA makes incredibly beefy and well engineered parts. I’m running a 2.5 in OME Heavy kit with the DELTA panhard bracket and their 3in radius arms on 35” M/T tires. My 96 LX450 steers straight and rides perfect. I did drop both sway bars as well. Probably overkill for my lift but will likely be swapping to a similar dobinsons setup to yours or a Slinky kit in the near future. A game changer is Landcruiser Phil’s front sway bar quick disconnects. I get a significant increase in front flex with those disconnected. Super cheap and easy to install. My cruiser goes all the places I’ve pointed it so far with that setup. The factory lockers do help with that though…
They’re local to me and I’ll probably buy some of their parts for sure. Also been looking at those quick disconnects!
I also have a 94 fj80. I put a new engine it as well. I also changed the front end to a 3 link using dobisons 6 inch springs. I had to custom make a steering arm for drivers side so the drag link is in the front of the

Easiest way to put those front springs.. remove the top hat that holds the bumpstops
Hey mate great video ! Im watching all the way from Perth, Western Australia. I’ve been fitting dobinsons gear to land cruisers for years as a mechanic. When it comes to that brake extension bracket you can lose the after market bracket itself and just adjust the bracket up until the highest point on the factory threads. I know it only adjusts it up half an inch or so but it works great. Keep smashing the rest of the build !

I actually had a cracked mount on my driver's rear shock. I cut it out and had a shop weld on 2 new plates as a double sheer with a new bolt welded on the other side, effectively new OEM mount.. I couldn't find anywhere where Toyota or otherwise sells a new mount. This keeps my rig serviceable and I don't need any weird adapters or one off nuts when I get new shocks
I just added a willwood manual lspv and it made a massive difference and made the system a lot simpler.

Of the axle. I used heims and cut old brackets off and welded on new ones. I got a lot my parts from Barnes

The worn stub shafts for the shock mounts can be welded, just have some beads put on there and file the shafts round again. Or, you could have them cut off and new ones welded in the location you want? Great videos, thank you. Jim

I welded it and used a grinder to shape and a flapper wheen to smooth
As another comment said just weld that shock mount and file it down round. That would be easiest. I don't think you mentioned it but you are going to have to extend your diff breather lines too. Just get those ARB extend kits and route it to the firewall in the engine. They are pretty cheap.

IDK if you already sold them but i would take you OME springs if they still have some life left in them and you have all 4.
I'm running same springs with no sway bars and the hyperflexarms. 13in superior shocks on... very tippy setup but achives major flex... way too much lift for my 37s... thinking about going to a conventional springs

@@RM_Garage do you own crawbar,,or long pipe..1 foot on the bar, 2 hands fit the coil,,easy..&,,why a toyota, ??..shoulda got a nissan gu,,there better..ausie..i drive ford 4x4rs..not jap sht..too many design problems..&,,seeing you yanks dont do any distance,,like we do,,all our 4x4rs are diesel..preferably with no computer..
@@RM_Garage you need to tie the coils in,,like f100..dont rely on the shock..they blow.. we do it,, japs dont cos its not meant to 4x4..plus, mate ripped the mounts off his diff, too much travel,,japs dont have f100 rduis arms, bolt & eye,,, not thru bolt garbage..
@@RM_Garage oh yeh,,toyota g/boxes leak into the transfer,, you have a slight transfer leak you dont worry about,,then your g/box blows up,,no oil.. we fit nissan front diffs & steering boxes,, COS THERE STRONGER. hint..

Can I ask you a question? Why did you go for 6 inch shocks with a 3.5 inch lift? My 80 has Lovells medium rate springs and Icon 1.0 shocks that are 7 yrs old but they're 3 inch version (matched to the approximate 3 to 4 inch of raise I've got but I think the shocks are flogging out.
It's what dobinsons recommended to get the most out of the coils they're paired with. No other reason really
Great choice! I have Dobinsons flexi coils on my 80 and I think they perform well for how I use my truck. Will you be using adjustable panhards? I have front and rear from Dobinsons and I wish I got the delta lift bracket for the rear. It seems other have had better results with the bracket in the rear because of the angle.
I was looking at the delta lift bracket and also the eimkeith stuff. Not sure which way I’m going at the moment

Back in California it was going to be used for crawling. Here in Idaho it’s going to be used for everything. Crawling where we can find it, but off-road in general. Exploring, adventuring, street driving, etc.

I can’t give an honest comparison as my OME was completely worn out with blown shocks. Sorry! The dobinsons stuff is great though.
