Diamond plates and water stones

WARNING !!!! I use water on my diamond plates. Most manufacturers do not recommend this, they sell lapping compound. If using diamond plates in conjunction with water stones, be careful, lapping compound can damage your water stones.

Maintenance comparison is especially helpful. Everyone else just cover the sharpening side, but skip the parts related to the effort required to keep specific waterstones in optimal condition.

Good overview. Easy to chase the ‘which stone will work best for me’ Given your self admitted particulars on how and what you use your collection on, when you describe the shaptons and flattening-do you use the broken in 300 or the newer 300….or does it matter to you? Thanks.

I use the older plate to flatten the stones.
