thank you so much for all of your inspiring tutorials. watching this video is like Xanax for my packing-to-move stress. i have a stack of hankies i've been meaning to dye for the longest while, and i will likely pull out the dye pot and have a bit of fun once we manage to wrangle our belongings into our new home.
regarding the Dharma acid dyes, if anyone out there's looking for colors that are more likely to fracture, some of the stuff on the lower part of their color chart (what they call the "advanced colors") are excellent for this brand of tonal dyeing. i've gotten excellent broken colorways from the Antique Mauve and the Sage Leaf (my favorite of their dyes for fractured dyeing). you are so correct about the intensity of their dyes, especially in the darker colors and their unbelievably potent black. talk about 'bang for your buck'!

While its logical as its an animal fibre, it hadnt dawned on me that the normal wool dyes would work!

Was the heat on the pot all the time because the water looked very hot when you drained them into the sink.

Yes it was. Silk does not felt so they can be drained and rinsed when hot, unlike wool.

Have you ever dyed hankies in the microwave? If so, what timing do you use?

Have you ever used this technique to dye yardages of silk noil (raw silk fabric)?
