I think Cream era Clapton needs another Sound Like episode on its own
Agreed
Turgut Kartal I think you’re right haha
There should really be one for yardbirds bluesbreakers cream pre 376 ocean boulevard and after that album
Exactly, i love his Cream time sound
I've always preferred Clapton's 60s to early 70s stuff. Especially his Gibson years in Cream and Bluesbreakers
I feel like Matt should use the without busting version so we can get more or a direct comparison for the money
Mysterion157 Cool idea! Maybe we’ll do some comparisons in future vids 👍
Not a bad idea actually
Mysterion157 great idea , i agree!
Yes. Great idea!
Where's Stevie Ray Vaughan by busting?
Fender American Strat with thick gauge strings, Fender Super Reverb amp, Ibanez Tube Screamer. That’s all you need.
@@hinglemccringleberry8292 with fuzz pedal and vox 847 or 845 wah pedal😀
Now do Cream era Clapton by busting.... :-)
Exactly. His Cream-era tone rules, so break out the SG and the Marshalls.
that 335 man, that 335. A menphis 335 63 RI are pretty spot on, with the center position and treble pickup tone rolled off........... tone for days
@@Mathcartney That's not how Clapton played his guitars though. He almost never _slightly_ rolled off the tone knob - it was either on 10 or 0, the latter of which was used for his "woman tone". And he rarely if ever set the selector to the middle position. Live it was almost always on the treble pickup with everything on 10 (unless using the woman tone which was usually on the neck pickup with the volume on 10 and tone on 0), plugged into the Normal channel on a '67 Super Lead - also with every knob on the amp on 10.
you should do Stevie Ray Vaughan BY busting the bank
benji this. Absolutely this.
If done properly, this would easily become one of the most watched guitar videos on UA-cam. When it comes to tone chasing SRV is the end of the road, peak of the mountain for countless guitarists.
BlueStratDude ummm SRV is my all time favorite player but a couple things. Hendrix, EVH, and id say really nailing B.B.s tone. Srv is just a 50s pickup rosewood board strat with MASSIVE strings and ramming a fender tweed or even a twin reverb. In step Stevie is more difficult cause he used fenders, Marshall’s, dumbles, stuff like that. And a ts10. Many don’t know that he used the cheaper ts10 once it came out. He had used the 808 some and the 9 for a while but ts10 is closest. Old old crybaby, occasionally a Vox wah even. And a Univibe. He would stack 2 ts10s sometimes too. Stevie’s rig was the definition of straightforward and reliable
Max Rooks don’t forget ridiculously high action
Maybe they just can't play like SRV or even close to do it justice? I agree, it would be most watched video they've ever done.
Damn Matt's rhythm is amazing.
Aristotilus Extremely kind, thank you man!
Sound like Rory Gallagher by /without busting the bank ?
Pablo Costas so underrated!!
That'd be awesome!!!
Was scrolling down to the comment section to write this! We need this immediately
Man rory was huge . i asked for it too
Yes 100%
Clapton's tone had 2 major components...the Amp! and the circuits in the guitar - tbx tone control and that mid-boost. The mid-boost is useless without the TBX tone control, that makes the whole sound big and very clear. He uses no pedals what so ever, except a Wah...he goes directly into the amp, turned to max...and that's where he gets his drive. Also...neck pickup for Clapton tone...huge part...and the neck and middle together...bridge not so much...only on some songs...by the way Layla live was played on the neck pickup..look it up on clapton and friend from the 90's at Royal Albert Hall i think it was...
I suppose they could have used a Rotary Sim Pedal as Clapton has his Leslie Cabinet!
Eric's custom shop guitars haven't included the TBX control in many years, so the boost still sounds great without it.
Clapton didn't have a boost or tbx in original blackie.. those came in his signature Blackie model in 86, which came with LACE noiseless pickups. That switched to fender noiseless in late 2001 due to the licensing agreement running out with LACE. The first live show with his signature model, which was a concept proof, was live at Montreux in '86. The first studio album was August, released later in the year. The original blackie was last used regularly in '85, with the final ever stage performance being one song in '91 at the royal Albert hall
Please do Ritchie Blackmoore! We need some DEEEEEEEP PURPLE!
With EHX Organ Machine action!
YES
CormacMacCormac dude holy shit that would be mad
DEEP MEN
This was awesome, Slowhand is undoubtedly one of the greatest guitarists in music and his playing style is just so iconic. I'd love to see a Metallica - By Busting the Bank or a Megadeth - Without Busting at some point as well
Andrew Pappas done actually
Yes!!! I've been patiently waiting for this brilliance. Thanks lads!
I CREAMed my pants when the notification popped up on my phone
Did your phone bluesbreak?
I clapt.
JaundiceJoe It may have done as it's not responding to my slowhand
I SWLABR'd all over myself. Now I can't get the strange brew out of my clothes.
I had a sense of Blind Faith that they would one day do this one.
Clapton is God.
That sounded really good, and reminded me how so many of the Great Old Ones did not use all that much gear, but they were LOUD!
So, when do we get a "The Captain meets God"?
When the Captain dies lol.
I really would like to hear sound like Rory Gallagher :)
Finally! I've been waiting this for the longest time. Thanks guys.
It's amazing how much better really good gear sounds, even over the internet. Those strat tones are absolutely killer, through a great amp. Well done and really cool comparison to the by not busting the bank video.
that crossroads rendition was wonderful, well done guys!
Lees playing really has improved noticeably over the years,
I'm glad the artic white gag has stuck around
Is there a gag? I have never noticed. Can you explain it a bit please?
It relates to a Sounds Like from a couple of years ago where Matt kept getting it wrong, saying that the Strat they were using was Olympic White, prompting Bea to shout "Arctic White, man! It's Arctic fookin' White!" after Matt fluffed his lines for about the hundredth time.
I prefer midnight white tbh
This is the BEST tone you done so far!
Please do a Bluesbreaker/Cream era focused Clapton too
Bluesbreaker - cheap gibson les paul and Fender Combo
Cream - Cheap Gibson SG, Marshall Origin Combo & Wah
@@KeeperOfPoops Bluesbreakers is also Marshall, baybe with a treble booster
@@pablofichaje his studio rig was marshall but in a gibson guitar and guitar centre interview i heard him say that later in live performances with cream in their America tour he started using tweed twins because at that time every marshall was different and he was unable to get his lp tone so he tried a tweed twin it sounded similar to his bluesbreaker rig. So i thing is that a tweed twin will be more accurate even though it was not the amp used in the studio.
@@tendulkarification Clapton never used a Tweed Twin during Cream. Throughout his touring in both America and the UK at that time the band was using strictly Marshall 100 watt heads and dual stacks. Tweed Twins would not have given anywhere near enough volume for what Cream was doing. Besides that, I happen to know that Clapton never played anything but Marshalls throughout the entirety of Cream. I'm familiar with the interview you're referring to, but he does not mention that he began using Tweed Fender amps specifically in Cream - he did not. He used them off and on throughout live performances with the Bluesbreakers _before_ Cream formed due to them being more consistent to the "Bluesbreaker" Marshall combo he had used on the Beano record, and he continued using Twins more regularly sometime after Blind Faith. There are photographs however from nearly every live performance that Cream played across their American tours and every single one of them features Clapton and Bruce with at least one if not two full stack Marshalls each. A Tweed Twin will not give you the same sound that Clapton was getting live in Cream.
I'd like to see "Sound like Eric Clapton on the Beano Album by busting the bank"
Absolutely top playing Bea! Such a great player mate.
For my part, the most anticipated Sound Like EVER. Thanks
Gibson with marshalls could be nice too
matt & rabea, when you do these BY busting the bank vids, you could totally use two amps (like both a marshall and fender in this vid) since that's what a bunch of players of this league do & it would fit the theme of busting the bank. that way you wouldn't have to decide between which era of the player to stick to. win win !
Please Eric Johnson by /without busting the bank!!
Well done guys. Sounded spot on
Waited for this and was not dissapointed. Great work.
Sound like Eddie van halen!!!!
I'd second that! :)
Sound like queen: But, without using the red special. Bit of a challenge.
That'd be really cool. Maybe using a SG? That'd be close right??? Do they do a High Spec SG with the push pulls and the dip switches? That'd do it!
Its hard to sound like Queen even WITH the red special.
That's very true. Brian May's tech said during a rig rundown when Paul Crook (Anthrax, Meatloaf) played through Brian's rig with the Red Special he sounded nothing like him.
Jam Junkies remember the sixpence for a pick!
@@jamjunkies3639 Bear in mind that the Red Special has hollow chambering on the inside, so I'd say an ES-335 would be closer.
Buddy Whittington and Peter Green... :D You guys are exciting to listen to. Not only do you know all about the gear, but your personal playing and broad vocabularies are such a shot of inspiration. Great job, guys! :D :D
Love theses shows thanks.
Sounds like The Bros Landreth would be amazing!!
Would love to hear a Sleep or Electric Wizard sounds like! Need some Stoner Rock love on here!
Fz2 into sunn model t
@@totoluyum Expensive, mate. Octavio into some big-sounding amp?
Clapton was the man who inspired me the most to want to play.. but to doing a video like this is difficult because his sound and gear changed so much over the years... He needs his own series...60's era. 70's. 80's and so much. Such an influential musician. Living legend
It's well past midnight here in Nepal but when my notification woke me, i knew i just had to watch this
Man it really is too bad the Wonderful Tonight part got taken out, that was the best part by far!
Shame you didn’t play my guitar gently weeps, classic Clapton on his les Paul instead of his strat
Yeah, it's busting the bank so the could have used two guitars. :)
I love that Clapton boost circuit. It's does tone shaping (the knob with the notch in the middle) and a boost.
Clapton has had so many different phases of the sound through the decades. Guitars. Amps. Effects. Bluesbreakers/Cream. Derek and the domianoes. 80's pop. 90's return to the blues. I'd love to see more inept to these different tones off this legendary player
why have you not done van halen yet
That'd be really cool. Imagine the comments though. People get pretty passionate when it comes to the Van Halen sound!
lmfao for sure.
That said, there are tons of them out there. His rig was super simple and straight forward. Its his hands and mind you need to purchase on a budget.
i dont think so, his signature gear is pretty expensive and wouldn't be affordable for the on a budget.
Signature equipment will always be more expensive. But what is that signature equipment based off of? Think about how much his rig cost on VH1. Guitar thrown together with scraps, going into an extremely loud amp and a script phaser.
EVH Striped Series or Charvel, Phase 90, and a Marshall/Blackstar and you have pretty much got it on a budget. But that only gets you 10%. The rest is all skill.
Would love to see Sounds like the Beatles
Great Video Guys. I'd love to see Clapton Cream Era by Busting The Bank, or Keith.
At first I thought the tones sounded a little thin but then I went back to the records and remembered that the guitar lines were layered about 50,000 times. Great job lads!
Never clicked a link so fast
Sound like: The Eagles
This. Definitely this!
YESS
Agreed. You guys could slay it!
Will need more guitar players for that one, and that would be a cool sounds like, :)
That Strat and Amp combo sounds killer!
Tonnnnneeee! Sweet sounds, boys, Cheers!
Sound like Bruce Springsteen without busting
Son House!!! Complete opposite end of spectrum but cool!
And make Matt play the harmonica
Great video guys! I love Clapton and his music...
I think that the DB boost is the last knob and the knob with the detent is for tone... The detent area is normal strat sound. Above that you have more treble and lower, bass. I have the Clapton model and i think that is how that works, but I could be wrong.
Loved it and the intro for badge was very cool I always just played the bass line but that’s a great idea
Please do a sound like by busting the bank, on Josh Klinghoffer from the Red Hot Chili Peppers would be appreciated
i know he isn't great since john left the chilis, but would like to see what gear he uses
He changes gear literally every show, there's a rig run dow. Where they say he mixes it up each day. So basically watch the John sounds like
yeah ive seen it before :) But would like andertons to give it a bash see what they can come up with
Josh is an awesome, professional guitarist. Quite different than fruiscante though, even though they used to play together. Anyone saying that he sucks can't be taken seriously.
or not a chilis fan ;)
Nice!
-Megadeth
-Motorhead
-Warlock
-Did anyone said Van Halen?
Edit:-Ghost
Definitely Van Halen!!! :)
Best yet! Shame it wasn’t longer, Eric is god! 👍🏻😎
First time watching one of these videos. DAMN that's a great sound!
Sounds like disturbed next please :)
Do a sounds like on Nuno Bettencourt?
Make it happen Rabea!
Magic word? :-)
Andertons Music Co pretty pretty please? With a massive cherry on top!
Billy Duffy is my two pence! Excellent as always!
Just awesome gents! Well done, as always. Please do EVH.
No metal zone?
Sound Like Zappa
Yes At Last!!!! Love it
I have beeb waiting for this for over a year
Sound like paul gilbert
Make a my bloody valentine sounds like, I think it might be hard but would be really cool.
definitely more pedal and gear oriented so its perfect for this show
i thought that said Bullet For My Valentine for a second
now i am upset :(
The black strat has a mighty fine sound🤘🏾
Love it guys!
How about a sounds like Brian Setzer
very simple rig
Gretsch Hollowbody
Fender Amp
Delay pedal
sorted
Sound like Judas Priest and RAMMSTEIN!
there was also a "sound like eric clapton for under £1000" back in the old days of Rob's channel that sounded awesome. Worth a listen if you haven't already seen it.
You did a great job guys as usual. The difficulty is early Clapton such as sunshine of your love and crossroads were done on a Gibson. He used a les paul, SG and 335. Also at that time he was using Marshall amps. But given that restriction you did great.
Sounds like Sonic Youth.
Sound like the Cure.
Sound like the Ramones.
Sound like The Clash.
Meh ramones and clash are kinda like just down strum as hard as possible
can we get a sounds like eric johnson without busting the bank
Great as always boys. Some more tones to consider:
The Beatles
Van Halen
The Eagles
Baroness
Muse BY BUSTING
Sounds so dang good!!!
I don't know but I'd like to see ZZ top by busting the bank
Or John Lee Hooker totally in y’alls wheelhouse!
Great show boys.
well played. Thank you
Sound Like Extreme?
Logan Klein I've commented a couple of times before asking for a sounds like on Nuno, I know Rabea and Rob are big fans and supported Extreme at the end of last year.
I think it's the the lack of Washburn in the shop that's stopping it from happening... but any super Strat would do the job.
We need tame impala without busting the bank!!!
Fabien Dolan Those guys use Rickenbackers, right?
Andrew Pappas 2nd album onwards Kevin Parker uses Rickenbackers. However he did use a Strat for the first one
Fabien Dolan squier j mascis would do the job i guess
Well its one guy that records all the music so you just have to emulate him. Ashraf, no using others sigs.
jazzmaster, boss blues driver and a phaser
AHH that Tweed combo was just epic!!! And holy crap the rhythm was just a Bassbreaker? Listen to that thing punching above its weight and being pretty good next to the best Strat sound I've ever heard on Andertons!
Lot better than the previous attempt. Damn Rabea ,you can play the hell out of that Strat!
BOB ROSS !!!
Do sound like Stevie Ray Vaughn by busting the bank
Nailed that Crossroads riff. Sounded creamy and dreamy
Thank god for this channel
Sound like Van Halen!
Sounds like ghost
Sounds like avenged sevenfold
Please
Woo hooo here it comes, some strat love!! Come in, we've been expecting you
That strat sounds gorgeous
Sound like Marc Bolan? (T. Rex)
DefinAndStuff I wish
Kirbysanch
Hey man, you never know. Might happen.
Sound like the shaggs or Lil Wayne by bustling the bank thank you very much
Nice job. I'd love to see you do Sounds like Gary Moore by busting the bank.
Loved it, great tones. Although my favorite bit was "kids wanna rock" in the outro section of the vid... :-)
Sound like : John Fogerty (CCR)
Is Johnny boy knone for his towne?
I love John Fogerty. I pretty much bought a Les Paul custom with P90s from watching his rig rundown. Such a great sound!
Yes he is known for his tone. Swamp tone that is. Lol
Sound like Brad Paisley next please
I think he uses Tweed twins live; most likely his signature Twinolux. As the Deluxe has one tone knob vs the Twin's two knob EQ (Treble & Bass) it's a credit to your ears you decided to include a EQ and effectively simulate the extra tone control. It'd be great if you'd have included a few extra tones such as some delay for Double Trouble for example but the rig sounds ridiculously awesome! Well done chaps! :)
The choice of a Deluxe is still a good one as Clapton used a Deluxe paired with a Champ in the studio for his last album. There is some footage and he describes the set-up a little in his I Still Do documentary/interview thingy. It's quite close to the end and well worth a watch... after this video of course! ;)
Nailed it guys.
