Thank you for demonstrating how you do transfers and I am sorry about the creeps. I’m an architecture student and had an injury several years ago that limits my mobility. I’m trying to design an apartment building that is friendly to everyone, not just able-bodied people, and your video has really helped me with planning built-in assistive features. Thank you!

Thanks, Steph. I have been a quad for 47 years and loved your can-do attitude. I have written a book "Triumphant Ride" which shares that no matter what happens in our lives, we can persevere and be successful.

This is the first time I watch your video and is amazing . I had a total right knee replacement and used a "Walker" daily for two years. It got damaged , and now I'm in the process of buying a wheel chair because two of my granddaughters love to walk everywhere with me and this way I'll be able to walk long distances with them while holding on to. the wheelchair , and if they get tired of walking , they can just sit and we just keep going . We did the same thing with the Walker , but now they are 7 & 8 and didn't fit in it anymore .p The reason I tell you this is because , a lot of people have moderate to severe physical situations , but prefer to stay home because are very afraid about not fitting in !! Years ago , I decided that instead of not being able to enjoy good times with my granddaughters because of what others would think of me , I just go outside with whatever equipment I need for mobility , have fun and at the same time , without saying a single word :. I'm educating the people everywhere I go !! Hi from Puerto Rico .

I was taught these same transfers when I had two spinal cord surgeries and I lost my ability to walk on my own and my P.T taught me many ways to transfer myself from my wheelchair onto other things. Or without my wheelchair to transfer myself on and off the same way I would do with my chair as I can do without it. Thank you for sharing your tips on how you transfer from place to place

You’re so amazing! My husbands mom was in an accident, drinking and driving about 25-30 years ago and was paralyzed. She could move her arms and had full functionality of her arms and hands but she basically bent in half in the accident and broke her spine (not sure of all medical terms) she had to have nurses to help her with everything. She could get around in her wheelchair but couldn’t transfer herself or anything. The number of different spinal injuries is amazing (for lack of a better word 🧐) you are nothing short of extraordinary ♥️♥️ My mother in law passed away March 21, 2017 at the young age of 53. She had very deep bed sores and wasn’t receiving the best care. I wish we lived closer to her so we could’ve helped (she inRhode Island and us in North Carolina)

I am a new subscriber. I have Transverse Myelitis and am paralyzed but can move my legs & sit up myself. I can’t transfer like this bc I weigh too much so I’m working on losing weight so I can do so. My fiancé is my caregiver and gets paid to do so. In order for me to transfer anywhere we have to use a hoyer lift. So I’m working on becoming more independent. I tried for months in rehab to do this but it’s just my weight that’s holding me back. But I’m on a strict diet now so it’s working ! Ty so much for sharing this!

Thank you so much for sharing such an intimate part of your life with us all. I came across your channel while seeking information about bladder Botox. While our abilities are different I sincerely appreciate the information you gave. I have a friend with similar abilities as you and I have always wondered how she flows through her day but I have never felt comfortable to ask. I didn't want to be too invasive. Obviously everyone does things differently but you gave me a brand new perspective on things. Thank you.

Ok, for the bed, roll up along side it, get feet in front of chair take outside leg and cross over inside leg and put on bed. Now take outside hand and roll onto bed while grabbing bedding or strap to pull. You should end up on stomach. I had to figure this out with back issues. Saves on wrists and shoulders also. Hope it helps

Very informative video Steph! Thanks for posting. I’d be interested in seeing a video of all the modifications/Knick knacks you have in your home to help make things easier for you. For example, I noticed that you have a little area with a bunch of products next to your toilet for easy access. I am also in a wheelchair myself and have a few things that I have added throughout my home to make things easier for me and so i would be interested in seeing yours! That would be very helpful!💕

Steph, I learned from you! Thank you! If you live in Ontario, Canada then you know that highly trained workers are available with the needed expertise to help you strengthen muscle, tendons and ligaments needed for your movements, for NO COST to you. If you live in the U.S. you may have to pay for some, or all of the cost. Your local, state and federal political representatives may intervene to help with the costs. My disabled cousine did that and got all of in her charges removed. Just a suggestion. Thank you again for teaching me, Steph.

It seems a trade between moving the chair as parrallel as possible to the bed (thus minimizing the distance too cover) and not bumping into the wheel/armrest.. Keep up the strength and it rather cuts down on unsynchronized efforts ie when a person has a few drinks. Well done for managing without a transfer board which can be heavy and get in the way.

Great video ! I have osteoarthritis which is very severe and because of that I have no cartilage in my knees and I was reading that eventually I'm not going to be able to walk because the cartilage is so bad and I'm very leery about getting a total knee replacement in both knees because I'm very much overweight which I'm trying to lose weight now and I needed to know just in case about transferring to different things in my apartment like the bed the toilet etc..... I know I have to lose the weight but at the present time I have a power chair and it is kind of bulky. I'm so wondering how I'm going to be able to use the shower meaning I don't think I can get into it because it's not an open shower like yours is but I know that there is a way! I also have to get a shower hose. Right now I'm able to take a shower regularly but like I said I'm concerned in future that I'm going to have too much trouble being on my feet and hopefully it won't be that bad. I give you a lot of credit for making this video and and just being able to do things yourself which is awesome !!!

Hi Steph! I am a t12 SCI complete and have been looking for a higher couch that is easier to transfer too, could you please tell me about yours?

    Hi,
It's great you did all this for us who needs it. I wish you wore white pants and white shoes in bedroom and in couch time. I could not see your leg position

It may be best to keep the muscles working, but If you had an overhead rail w/an electric winch, you could use a harness to hook to and lift you out of the chair into bed & vice versa..

How do manage your clothing with toileting?

Hi Steph, thank you so much the video was very helpful. But I do have a question when you transfer to the toilet how do you pull your pants off and on. This is something I am still struggling with and my family still helps me with. I would love to be more independent with. Also what is the name of your seat cushion? Thanks in advance

Maria Rosales I am usually ready for my transfer prior to getting onto the toilet. I don’t have to transfer onto A toilet to cat so are usually only have to do this transfer once a day
