For everybody who is new to the channel. The trash Rack you're seeing in this video is only to stop beavers from Building inside of the Culvert Out Of Reach. It is not the stop stuff from passing through the culvert. None of this is trash is beneficial debris that will sink and put nutrition into the swamp Downstream, it's called a trash rack but all it does is catch debris. Reposted

It is very effective at stopping things flow into the culvert and as you mentioned, if it does block around the sides the water can still flow over the top. A great invention. Thank you for bringing us these very interesting video presentations to us, the people really appreciate them and all the work involved.

That culvert rack is an amazing design. It prevents beavers from clogging the pipe while also being very easy to unclog the rack of beaver works and/or natural debris.
If fully clogged, it will still top and allow water into the culvert, saving the road.
It is also heavy enough to self-stabilize, but looks easy enough for an excavator to chain to to lift out if necessary.
This design ought to become a standard.

The rails look designed to keep the sticks out, so I'm puzzled why you're tossing the sticks over the rails
after removing them? Wouldn't it be better to pull them out of the water?

    • @supersonic3974
      @supersonic3974 3 роки тому +34

It's probably that you don't want all those sticks and debris entering the culvert at the same time. So since Post10 is gradually sending them through it probably isn't an issue.

This type of trash racks you can have anchored by hammered down steelpipes in bottom and/or berm/culvert. Are there a lot of big debris (or a beaver dam) we use grapple to rinse first around the cage. Then you can slowly lift cage with a (forestry grapple/) crane and let water pass in correct pace. Then lift and shake it in the not heavy streaming water to rinse it. You thread the welded cage-rings back on pipes. Takes about 5-15 minutes in all. Here in Sweden we lift them up when ice are laying in early winter and put them back in early spring after ice break-up. Else you can have a cage in new flat berm design! ;D Nice video and manual work in water Post 10!

The rack is actually to prevent beavers building their dam inside the culvert and blocking it completely. With the rack installed it encourages beavers to build on the outside of the culvert's rack which is easier (and safer) to remove when there's flooding :)

Have you considered bringing along a pole with a heavy base or spike on one end that has marks every 3 or 6 inches or so that you can stick out in the water before you start your work so you (and us) can see exactly how far the water has dropped? (I'm sure there is a technical name for a water depth stick, but I don't know it.)

@@jareddory2155 Just tie a rock to a ruler and toss it in. I'm sure the foot long ruler laying on the bottom will measure how much the water dropped.
I took the time and looked it up. I believe the correct term is "Depth Indicator".

    Hey Post.
One of the gaming youtubers I watch actually mentioned you in his latest video. Stuff+. He enjoyed your content. It was kind of cool to hear him talking about you.

Hey post does your name post 10 have any meaning to it? Or is it just a random name you came up with?

Hey, you should use some type of Rake or specific tool to remove those leaves from the dirty water. But most of all, wear proper gloves. Not every water you jump in will be assumed safe.

If you toss all the 'trash' right over the grate (rather than removing the 'trash'), isn't this defeating the primary purpose of the grate (prevent 'trash' from going downstream)? Wouldn't it be easier to just remove the grate?

The grate is for beaver prevention. So, they only can clog it outside the pipe and not the inside
