Insurance fraud. I wondered why he illegally overtook you. Someone did that to my dad while on holiday. He sat in his car and called the police, and they arrested the guy as soon as they saw the video. My dad was still out of pocket though.
So so sorry for your loss. Dont think this could of been avoided, unless having seen this joker, stopped of and waited half an hour, thx for uploading and a cautionary tale for driving in Croatia.
I am sure the police were not impressed with his illegal move over taking on white chevrons and could see the scam this driver was pulling when he caused the accident. Those that do this sort of thing should go to prison, for they are risking others lives by dangerous driving. pleased to see you having van fixed and back on the road.
I didn’t know what was going to happen but I had decided that the car in front was driving strangely, impatient, hugging central line which would have had me back off a bit. If he was determined to make a crash then you probably couldn’t have avoided it entirely. Sorry you’ve had your trip spoiled. Nice van btw.
Shortly before the crash the driver of the black car overtook and placed himself between the campervan and the cars in front. Why would anyone do that to gain the length of one vehicle, and then at the opportune moment slam on the brakes for no reason whatsoever. No reason, other than a crash for cash scam.
@@vanlife4x471 I finally got a dash cam some months ago. Your video highlights how important it is to have one. You just never know when you’ll need it.
There was no reason for the black car to brake, looks like an insurance scam. We had the same thing happen in France, however, we were lucky to stop just in time, needless to say, we gave the driver a good talking to, we don’t think they will brake stop another UK driver??
Unfortunately this is so typical situation in Croatia , soon as they notice foreign number plates that’s what they do, try to scam you . Usually on low speed so no big damages,in that case they will ask you for cash to not call police , I’m from Croatia live in UK and every summer when I go down to Croatia with car I have similar experience
I am sorry for what happened to you… I lived in Croatia for over 5 years and love the place!! This sort of scam was definitely NOT common practice when I lived there (‘06 to ‘11)…. I instantly recognized the road being the ‘Magistrala’….. surely one of the nicest roads to travel, and a marvel of engineering for sure!! But not very safe…. I am happy for you about what the police said about the images recorded by the dashcam…. As soon as Croatia was set to become an EU member corruption and fraud was a ‘no-go’ to the public’s opinion!! I do hope you will cotinue your journey in Croatia…. and have a wonderful time! Kind Regards, Henk Tulp, Elim the Netherlands….
It was very smart of you to have that camera recording everything on your drive, and a real blessing for resolving blame with the police, as well as for insurance & liability purposes👍. I wonder if the authorities investigated him further to see if there were any other on file insurance scam incidents caused by him in the past?
I have had better service from Mercedes dealers at half the price in Europe then from Mercedes dealers in the UK. By shipping it back to the UK from Croatia it will cost your insurance at least £3000 which all of us who pay our insurance will have to pay for because insurance claims are paid out of insurance premiums. If you are not prepared to deal with foreign mechanics/workshops on this sort of journey it's a bit like going to Spain and insisting on eating baked beans on toast. Well done for having a dash cam you have convinced me it is not an optional extra.
Hi You seem to forget it was the other guys insurance company that paid for the damage and repatriation due to his admission of liability once the dashcam footage was shown to the police so rest assured your higher insurance is nothing to do with me!!
You have to be careful in Croatia when somebody with shitty car cuts you off, it also happened to me in Zagreb but luckily i had my foot on the brake as soon as i saw that he will cut me off and was able to stop in time when he hit the brakes in front of me. That was also the reason for me to aquire dash cam.
Hmmmm scam alert she admitted it because you had video evidence there was absolutely no need for them to splap on the brakes like that I hope you claim against their insurance for everything. These ppl disgust me
This scumbag didn't just hug the centre line but the left edge line also. After the ' pointless ' overtake as well, I would have assumed a drunk\ drug driver and would have backed off him immediately. Glad you were not injured and had a dashcam.
If you followed our series of videos you would have realised we were on our way to Greece therefore on a Greece trip the fact was we never got there because of the accident happening on the way As you may or may not be aware driving to Greece for a holiday from the U.K. involves passing through several countries Thanks for the comments and taking the time to watch
100% looked very dodgy how they overtook you then weaving all over the place then braking hard for no apparent reason⚠️🤔😳 The dashcam certainly helped your claim! I would add though, this is insurance 'scam' is quite a common thing. Fairly easy to spot, if a car follows you closely for a while, naybe comes alongside and has a look in your vehicle, overtakes but doesn't pull away, just stays directly in front of you, chances are it's a tactic to cause a collision. They'll target you at roundabouts, traffic lights and even out on the open road like this! Best thing is to be aware and look out for these drivers, avoid them at all costs, even change your route or just pull over for a few minutes, they'll quickly move on to another target. A short delay is better than a load of hassle getting your vehicle fixed. On the damage to your vehicle, although it looks 'superficial' and just cosmetic, repair costs can quickly escalate, especially at a main dealer or specialist repair centre and it's the total cost, not just the parts cost, that often comes in higher than the vehicle is worth, that determines if they right it off! 😮 I've had a car rear ended and it just damaged the boot lid, rear bumper and a rear light, didn't look much at all but it was a 'right off' according to the insurance company!😮
Watch the car in front of the van tailgate the white pickup truck. When dark car brake checks (red tail lights glow) the Van look at the white pickup tail lights. They aren't lit and truck was in motion causing the dark car to slam on the brakes. Notice this brake check didn't happen when the firetruck was in the opposite lane. One doesn't want to get hit by any truck. Watch the brake check driver FALL out of the vehicle. Maybe a slight whiplash at that speed but for acting injured would not win an Academy Award Oscar. Sham from the get go. Betcha the brake check driver didn't know the Van had a video. Both the Van owners, insurance and police will take care of this insurance scam "business". Insurance rates are higher because of shams you just witnessed.
Yes defiantly staged even how he fell out the car I hope the law comes down on him and states you were not to blame,me personally I would of got the van check that it was safe to drive and carry on
Whatever the motives of the black VW driver, the fact is that you were too close. If you are behind anyone, whatever they do, it is your responsibility to keep enough distance to be able to stop, even if they are brake testing you or squeeze in after an overtake or elect to stop quickly for no apparent reason.
It is deceptive as we weren’t all that close but when he slams on his brakes and we have 3.5 tonnes to bring to a halt it’s hard I appreciate any other time we would have been at fault Thanks for watching and your comments
you followed the car down the road, he never just appeared infront of you, you had plenty of time to brake and never did. oh im english, and a very good driver and never had a crash in my well over 40 years of driving
all i can say is if you hit anyone from the back you are at fault. i watched the vid and you didn't brake very well so in a court you will be liable. and dont ever blame the age of a car as this means fuck all , older cars are some of the safest how dare you blame the age of the car.
100% insurance scam complete with dramatic roll out of damaged vehicle !
Yes definitely was dramatic
I knew straight away what he was trying to achieve

What a disgusting thing to do. Glad things are sorted.
So glad you got it sorted and you were both ok and dash cam defiantly need to get one so much of this about still
Omg that’s awful! It’s the drop and roll on getting out of the car that made us raise an eyebrow!! Glad it’s sorted
Good job you had the dashcam footage.
Yes, it was, once the police saw the footage they told the guy to come over to us and admit liability which he did and got an on the spot fine
