Play tight. I've tried all 3 and like in life, never get in a fight with someone who has nothing to lose. I've tried to match a maniac and I always get buried. Tight seems to pay off the best. You let them dictate what happens and they'll give you all their chips. I LOVE to limp-raise with the nuts so I go tight with a maniac and eventually I'll win a huge hand. I agree about limping and not raising limpers. I think too many players assume a limper is weak. Especially if you have a nice post-flop hand like 10-J suited, see the flop for cheap.
I play tight, conservative and passive against aggressive maniacs. I just let them do the dirty job. Sometimes I just leave the table, but you did not put in a fourth option 😜
Depends on position. If he is to my left I would tighten up because I know I am getting 3-bet more often. If he is to my right I would probably play a solid range with maybe a few more suited hands. I would 3-bet a little less to trap them to avoid reopening the betting and leaving an opening for 4-bats with my slightly weaker range.
I’ve not seen a timed rake 2/5 game outside of poker clubs. Timed rake typically starts at 5/T or higher in my experience. The Wynn 2/5 is a standard rake.
Weather to play loose or tight against a maniac depends on whether you have position and whether you are closing the action. OOP or not closing the action you have to play a bit tighter, as you will not realise equity as well with middle strength holdings. IP ir closing the action you should play looser because you have increased implied odds. JTs IP closing the action preflop is a call even if we think our opponent is weighted towards nuts. Against maniacs, you should raise less and raise weighted more towards junk, as your strong hands do not want to raise and stop the maniac blasting.
Given the stack sizes, it's either 4 bet all in or fold. I like the all in more. You're getting a cbet fired at you pretty much always against a maniac and you're not going to improve on the flop more often than you will. Calling such a large raise preflop is the worst option in my opinion. That being said, he played his hand perfectly post flop.
From previous videos about maniacs the strat is call with good hands reraise with some bluffs. So idk what exactly that counts as. Tight with good hands battley with nothing
Depends upon how tight I'm already playing, whether that matches my table image (if I think they're evan paying attention to that), and whether or not I know how to exploit the particular maniac. My own default plan is to try showing up with the nuts, without wasting so much time that someone else stacks the maniac first, more than their share of the time. Multi-way, it gets tricky if you need to get better players out of the way for your crack at the maniac. Last time I checked, maniacs still get dealt their fair share of strong hands. I do a reality check of whether they've actually been splashing around with bad cards or just having the deck hit them.
Against a maniac I'd play a tad tighter preflop (cut the number of hands I plan on opening and folding to a 3-bet a bit) but also be more likely to 4-bet against their too wide 3-betting range. Edit: pocket 9s would have been my absolute last guess on hands opponent was jamming turn with.
Bossman what are these players expected value at the high roller scene. Isn’t everyone so good that it’s really break even? Or is there actual edges certain players have
Paused the video and my guess is play tight, wait for the nuts. His range can consist of literally anything. So you’re never going to quite know where you’re at. I like to wait for solid hands in these situations and play into the opponents weakness.
Usually my plan against maniacs is to play tight: make a hand and strap in. When I have a fairly premium preflop hand, which at this stack depth I'd put as QQ+ or AKs, I'd be trying to get all the money in preflop. I've gotten maniacs to stick 400 BB in preflop with JJ. With a hand like JTs, I'm trying to make middle pair, no kicker, and just hold on as they blast off. If they make a raise large enough to pot commit them, I'd be trying to raise all in. Even in the event that they fold, I don't see that as a huge downside since almost all their holdings will have some amount of equity we can clean up. And some maniacs will give up with two over cards (25-30% equity) thinking we must have a MONSTER hand to make an all in raise.
To be clear, I would often raise when I think the opponent is pot committed since I expect them to have a lot of made hands like small pairs that they'd play for all the money, thinking I was trying to bluff them. They beat my bluffs, but their bluff catchers have less equity than two overcards since in this line I'm playing a weakish middle pair type hand. Like in this situation, their "weaker hands" like AK have more equity than their "stronger" hands like a pair 99, so raising the maniac big helps both ways: I'm happy if they call with their made hands and I'm also happy if they fold high card hands.
I haven't seen the entire hand yet but I personally would fold pre for $150 when the guy only has $700 behind. Its not hard to beat maniac just wait for a premium hand and let them do the betting. Something that also works really well is betting small to induce them to bluff.
Battle harder! Actually, I was in an extreme maniac game this week. So my adjustments were to 3-bet wider pre-flop and check-raise when he led into my 3! preflop range if the flop was good for me and I had nothing. But when I had a great/good hand I would let him blast off and I won a ton of big pots. This effectively stopped his maniacal behavior toward me after a few hours and he punted off 600bb in a 1/3 game.
Tighten up and punish him immediately for taking aggressive actions with junk. If you end up with a marginal made hand, x/c him down. If you have absolutely nothing, fold.
Limping with this hand is ok.(not great) You encourage players to call behind and put no pressure on the blinds. You're not in great 😃👍 shape just looking for a monster 💀 flop. So when I raise someone 4 bets to 150 I fold. Maniac or not. Wait for a better spot. Maniacs are 🚫 not easy to play against. Aggressive players beat ROCKS Maniacs beat Aggressive players. Rocks beat Maniacs. ROCK, PAPPER, SIZZORS. The deeper you play the more complicated it gets. I feel you're going to miss the flop a lot and the maniac will pressure you out.
Here's the thing, hands like Q-J and J-10 aren't that good compared to a lone Ace or lone King. I understand they are still good hands which I myself play, but nonetheless, they simply aren't amazing in spots like this
How should you adjust to a maniac player at the poker table?
a) Play Tight
b) Play Wider
c) Battle Hard
Play tight
Either become SUPER MANIAC 🦸 or leave the table ASAP 😁

Jaman is the best vlogger by a country mile.
He open folded KK preflop just because he was about to leave lol. I stopped watching after that
Best Vlog out there 💯
Love this stuff Jon - thanks so much.

Jaman's the man

Widen calling range, tighten up raising and 3-betting range.
Make sure you have a BIG BIG bankroll to play like this!
Tks coach.

I’m a noob so will play tight.
dumb question... that is much better than J4 calling 100K plus... this is a snap call
With J-10 suited play him post flop & exploit them.
Play tight but have a wider defending range against maniacs
A little A and a little B - never C
seems like easy call. Against tags and nits i would fold. Oh you question is different: play wider
Tighten up and punish him immediately for taking aggressive actions with junk. If you end up with a marginal made hand, x/c him down. If you have absolutely nothing, fold.
You speak as fast as you think. Like my wife.

Flat almost every hand against a maniac...you can almost always outplay them post.
Beat them with their own game!
