As a fellow disabled motorsports enthusiast, I love to see more people not caring and just doing what they like. I'd love to bring my bimmer to the ring one day,
If you're from Europe, just hop in that car of yours and go there. You have a car to enjoy that type of freedom, so if money isn't too big of an issue and you have a day or two of spare time, what's holding you back? Don't say your partner - they'll be fine ;)
I love how Misha has featured multiple '' disabled '' drivers, all in different cars but all so damn quick and skilled. This shows that you can do anything if you put your mind to it
With the means I have at my disposal, I'm stuck driving in sims, but it is so gratifying seeing these guys absolutely sending it! Thank you for featuring so many "differently abled" drivers.
I’ve just found myself in the same situation after a bad motorcycle crash. Was wondering myself how I was going to drive again. Thanks for putting this out there. Nice driving fella ❤👍🏻
I've been paralyzed for the last 3 years now after a motorcycle accident as well. I have a van with hand controls but it doesn't quite scratch the motorsports itch like this setup would!
@@Complete.cyclepath surly there are better hand controls like a PlayStation steering wheel. That would be cool 😎 👍🏻. I’m not a fan of the push and pull system it looks a bit shite.
@@shrewsnose1 I agree the push pull systems are horrid for driving feel around corners as you can only really have one hand on the wheel. I use a suicide knob as well to be able to go lock to lock on the wheel easily and that helps a ton around town too. Most new cars these days use an electronic throttle hand control opposed to the fully manual linkage my van came with. There's one that I saw recently that's a ring that is inset of the steering wheel and connectors electronically so you can have your throttle control at your thumb tips and can keep both hands on the wheel. If I ever get the finances for a different car that's the control style I feel like I want.
I’m a disabled driver, no right leg after an IED in Afghanistan, I drive crossed up with my left foot only. Hand controls were not for me. It’s great to see other enthusiasts out there doing what we love. It’s tough sometimes not being able to trail brake, and I miss motorcycles very much, but it has made me very smooth in settling the car into turns.
Fellow chair user here! That was a brilliant lap! I want to go out for a ride with this man and see how he drives in person. I feel like it would vastly help me in my own motorsports pursuits to see how someone else with hand controls actually takes it to the limits. Thank you for sharing the experience Misha!
The owner of the i30 N is a cool guy and a very skilled driver! I'm happy for him that he can enjoy to drive such an awesome car like it should be driven!
As a disabled person, I really love his setup, he has both hands on the steering wheel. With my setup I only have one hand at the wheel, which makes me keep a respectful distance to go over the cars limits otherwise it can get spicy on the steering wheel...
Love it I would go for a lap with this gent. 120mph and having a chat like going to the shops. Real nice to see another UK licence plate. I could not drive with that confidence. It would be great to see an update on how he does on improving his timings by improving his skills. Greg 🇬🇧🚘🏁
Really appreciate these laps & the modern hand control systems being made for handy capable drivers, my great uncle was injured in WW2 & had hand operated controls in his old car, Rj in Oz
Amazing, live your best life no matter what gets put in your way. His smooth and confident use of the track to then ask just the right questions with the intention to listen was inspiring.
What a driver! I'm disabled too and have the same adaption to drive my GTI TCR! I would to meet Nürburgring! I'm sure would be great and with you Misha, I know will learn a lot!
I love how the hand control lever has a wear mark from turning the steering wheel at full throttle. Kudos! P.S. What a gentleman. What a nice guy. Amazing
Awesome, Misha you are 100% right. Hes not disabled at all. He has a burdan on his shoulders, but he makes the best out of it. The car is perfectly configured for this task. The setup is really good. The i30n is really good with the dct. Sometimes I feel like a pussy compared to such strong individuals. Very nice lines, keep sending it.
This is why we love Misha, End of the day We're all comrades who have love and passion for cars and the Nordschleife. Danke Misha for bringing us all this amazing content. Ben from Sydney
Soooo based on his Catalyst he's within 19 seconds of a factory driver who gets to run that car on track day in and day out. Can we just talk about how impressive that is for a second?
That driver mod seems surprisingly simple and effective. Beyond the different way of driving it must be a challenge to keep yourself seated properly when driving hard and you can't use your legs. But hey, I'm just jealous of the car!
That was amazing and mad respect to the driver! If this doesn’t show people that they can go beyond their physical limitations, I don’t know what can. If I see this guy in the States, he’s eating, drinking, and getting petrol on me! I can’t wait for my laps coming up in June. Apex all the way!
even if they are down, these guys are faster then most people on the track. its crazy. i rwally support these people. even if i have the risk of getting disabled myself. i wil still keep going on.
Great driving. I imagine braking with hand controls is very hard to get used to. And i wonder if it gives the same feedback as the pedal when things get hot and start fading.
Huge kudos. I'm not disabled and I'd personally really enjoy those hand controls. Maybe it's because I grew up riding dirt bikes w/ wrist throttle and ATV's with thumb throttle but it seems like you could get some really good control with the hand throttle/brake.. Turns would be obviously be difficult though, as it seems to look in the vid.
Misha as there are a few comments here maybe you can answer this for me why do you left foot brake? What are the advantages that you gain? Does it come down to milleseconds gained? I note that some of the other factory lap record setters do not left foot brake. Jusr want to know.
It gives me a sense of better car control by eliminating the unloaded time. It's not necessarily faster, because on a bumpy surface you may better use your left foot to hold yourself in the seat.
Not a track or professional driver by any means (though I do have many hours of seat time with racing sims for what little that is worth), but I've found it largely depends on the pedal box arrangement. In some cars, it's more "ergonomic" for lack of better words to brake with your left foot, especially in situations where you have to react quickly, than trying to juggle throttle/brake with your right and having your left foot more or less idle unless you're actively changing gears.
Misha, any chance you could ask this cat what brand HC's those are? I've driven with a few different brands/styles, and I drive my prepared M2 trackday car with old school MPS brand left hand dual plane hc's, but I love how he keeps his right thumb on the wheel. I'd love to drive with 2 again, even if just for stability. Thx
I have the new Nankang CRS here in the US and its a game changing 200TW. Better then the A052 from initial impressions and much much better life / heat resistance
As a disabled biker now just a driver this is great to see 👌🏼 I drive with one hand but those hand controls look difficult I bet it takes a while to get that good Also if he lost the use of his legs in a car accident he’s got massive balls to go drive the ring
With the technology we possess nowadays, i find it really strange that nobody has replaced these levers with fully digital controls. It should be really easy. Since the throttle is now digitally controlled, the manufacturers could add an analogue trigger button on the steering wheel, like the ones XBOX gamepads have. They work really well. That way the driver would be able to operate the throttle directly from the steering wheel and use his free arm to operate the brakes. Or they could take things one step further by installing an electronically controlled mechanism (like ball screw stepper motor) that pushes the brake pedal, and operates with a trigger button as well. The sky is the limit.
Not really... You can brake with the right foot without touching the floor (most of the times when you try hell toe, is even more common). So I think is only unnatural movemment and a very strange one
I don't need a wheelchair , and that's probably fairly lucky on my part because my shoulder is the problem not my legs . I'm a 51 year old who had a class 2 shoulder separation when I was 26 years old . The doctor told me then that I'd be lucky lift a coffee cup to my mouth with my right arm . And well I have done a hell of a lot better than the doctors thought I would . I'm stuck working behind the counter at a gas station because that's about all I can do physically . And as someone who works at a gas station I certainly don't make enough money to be able to afford a track car .
I don't think it has to do anything with their disabilities, Misha is just showing us good drivers, some of them had to adjust accordingly to their personal circumstances. Most likely they'd be good drivers even without those circumstances. Hats off anyway, skills are skills no matter what.
