The chorus blew Brian Wilson's (of the Beach Boys) mind when he first heard it driving in his car. He had to pull over to finish the rest of the song and said he realized he had heard the greatest pop song ever recorded. He spent the rest of his life trying to capture that moment.

I can so relate to Brian's car experience! Whenever I write music, I'm subconsciously chasing the feeling I had when I first heard incredible songs in the car years ago. _You remember that feeling your whole life._ Fortunately, I was able to write down most of the songs' titles if the DJ said who it was, but there were a handful of songs that "got away", that I've never heard again since. _Heart breaking!_ (this was decades before song ID apps like Shazam)... But yeah, I'm sure 'Be My Baby' has caused _many_ cars to pull over in the last 60 years! 😄🎶

Lead singer Ronnie later married their producer, the infamous Phil Spector (creator of the legendary "Wall of Sound") but it did not go well - check out her autobiography "Be My Baby". As a 73 year old, I am enjoying immensely watching you 2 young lovebirds react to the music I grew up with. I bought my first two 45s in 1957 - Elvis' Jailhouse Rock & Jerry Lee Lewis' Great Balls of Fire. When I moved to eastern North Carolina in 1970 from Richmond, VA, I became exposed to Country for the first time. I enjoy multiple genres and appreciate that you react to a big variety. The oldies are still my favorites and I will continue to enjoy your discovery of the top artists of my youth. Bravo to you both. keep it up.

They did this song on television a different time and then broke into "Shout" right after it (it's on UA-cam too) and that performance of "Be My Baby" really shows off her power. Look for that one. Also, talking about legacies and influence, there are four or five women whose voices influenced everyone who came after them, you should look for those singers: Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, Ma Rainey, Mamie Smith, and Blanche Calloway. Enjoy the journey.

Thanks for honoring Ronnie Spector (snd the Ronettes) with this reaction. You picked the right video. This song will live forever.
This was an era before my time; I feel like they were as important culturally as they were musically. They brought a new ethnicity and female sexuality to popular American music loved by teens without being overtly trashy. The mascara and hair was a bit shocking (and influenced that generation’s fashion) but you can see they dressed and performed like ladies. The girl group era was very short lived but influential to this day.

You have heard that line before and also seen her perform before. She was the guest on Eddie Money's video for "Take Me Home Tonight". The line in his song says "Just like Ronnie says, 'Be my little baby'", and she sings the "be my baby part as well as being in the video, though she's quite a bit older than here. So this is the first time for listening to the Ronnettes, but not to Ronnie Spector.

Some other killer girl groups from that period are The Dixie Cups with Iko Iko and Chapel of Love.
