Thanks for saying this, Jonas. We want people to find cars they love and enjoy driving in most every situation. Stats and specs often say very little about how a car feels to drive, and we're thrilled what we do is resonating with you. We appreciate you watching and commenting, and hope you'll share our show with others!
Thanks for saying so, guys. Many people don't realize how much effort goes into making a good video review, especially since we don't have backers or staff like nearly everyone else doing high-quality work. We look forward to having more viewers and backers to allow us to release this level of work even faster. Many thanks for watching and commenting!
The California is truly gorgeous! It took a little while for this Ferrari to grow on me but it really did. Great video guys! I have to admit you guys are my favorite youtube car reviewers. I get a little excited when I see you guys have a new video that pops up in my subscription feed, especially when its an exotic like this one. Keep it up guys!
Yes, it is not as fast as the F12, nor does it handle the exact same way as the 458, but.........we do not drive on the racetracks every day, we drive on regular streets. I have driven the F12 and the 458 as well as many others and California is the most practical one of the all. It handles, sounds and drives like a real Ferrari. The only time you really feel the difference is when you are on the racetrack. In addition, one must really know how to drive these cars well enough so their opinions actually matter. For most, reviews are simply based on what they often find on Top Gear or various blogs.
Better to drive a slower car fast, than be forced to drive a fast car slow. Most of the driving fun is between 40 and 100 mph. The California has it all. All you need to add is your gorgeous companion riding shotgun.
You guys are great and your videos are not only informative but hugely entertaining. I especially like how you both, quite often, have totally different takes on some features or performance of a car. Best example was your comparison of the BRZ vs FRS. Keep it up guys
Nice of you to visit us here in Utah! its nice to see a car review in my you tube feed that isn't filmed on the same nameless mountain road somewhere in California as every other publication on you tube. You guys create excellent content. I like that you focus on using the resources you have to create a few good pieces rather than chucking out some half baked piece. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic review! It's videos like this that I can watch all the way through. The presenters have a lot of personality. The camera work is done very well, it keeps the viewer's attention. Well done. - DT
We've shot a few things in Utah now (our M3 comparison, for example) and we are big fans of shooting outside the LA area when resources and cars allow. Thanks for the compliments and we'll continue working like crazy to bring you guys high quality videos.
Thank you! We know JF and the guys at Drive - They are very talented and work very hard to create the quality work they produce. We're flattered to have you place us in their category - and we look forward to having the financial backing they do! Much appreciated, and we've got lots more on the way... Oh, and you might enjoy the Audi S5 review we did last year...
A couple of those videos (the hairpin turns) appeared to be shots from Highway 65 which runs from I-80 just east of Salt Lake City through to Henefer and I-84. That road is a blast. Good review, guys.
We appreciate your comments - we work very hard at what we do and it's always nice when viewers like our two-reviewer style. Thanks for subscribing and commenting! Lots more to come!
Thank you for saying that - we work very hard to make TV quality production for the web. And you're absolutely right about the interior shot on this (and other earlier) reviews. Not long after this video we revised our setup, and if you watch anything uploaded since our PCH comparison you'll notice better interior quality. Thank you so much for like what we do, and we hope you'll share our work with others!
Y'know I've seen a handful of your reviews, but for some reason never subscribed. Well, I just changed that. :-] Nicely done! You guys have great reviews, and great interactions with one another. That's often a point which makes some vlogs fail. You're definitely on my short list of top car review channels.
That's a big compliment... Many thanks for saying so. Tell a friend - or 50 - and your favorite blog or site. We believe that when people find us, they'll like what they see. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for your kind and resonating reply :) A big reason for my subscribtion was the fact that you keep the internet cliches to a minimum and don't deal in extremes. I think it reflects nicely in the comments section. I do enjoy reading a comment when people actually put in the effort to write WHY they prefer a car over the other instead of just - "stating the name of the car" - "agreeing/disagreeing".
My grandfather's neighbor has one of these in Rosso Corsa and it is one sharp automobile. They are also larger in person than you see on UA-cam. Definitely something I would buy as more of a daily driver than an Audi R8.
Thanks for the upload. I love the California. Having been privileged enough to ride in a couple of Ferraris, this is my favorite looks/practicality wise, other than the 458 Italia of course!
I drove one today on a racetrack. It went ok but I hoped to be thrown back more. Didn’t beat the experience of a super bike but wonderful to have a go at.
You channel deserves to be on TV...Fantastic attention to detail while filming it..although i would suggest doing something about the interior camera...it seems very blurry and shaky in some videos compared to the HD quality of the outside..and i know you were able to film the inside well in the WRX..so it is not a device issue
Great video guys We appreciate the time and honest you give in your videos Would be nice if you were given a bigger budget I wonder if the DRIVE Channel could help you in that respect
You cannot possibly have any personal experience with the modern Ferrari line-up when you say something that silly. It is so slow and have an awful ride, and the looks? Right. You think this is a better drive than any of the others? Nope.
If you are looking for an all around Ferrari, this is it. Great styling, very comfortable, very easy to drive, CONVERTIBLE, sound, power, and overall driver satisfaction. The California cannot compete with the 488, the F40 or the Enzo. This is a very fun car without all the F1 bullshit (F-40, F-40, 488) As the owner of several Ferrari's I the past, the California is by far, my most favorite. I also do my own work. The California is very easy to work on. I've spent years and years working on Testarossa's, 328's, the F40 and several others. Just a great overall car. And yes, this can easily be your daily driver.
We had no restrictions on this car - except to keep it shiny side up! This owner was VERY generous to us and we hope he likes the result. And this review was actually shot in Utah.
When your given a ride that cost 170k do you drive with a little hint of "please don't crash, get hit or have a bird s**t on my car" or are you able to drive relaxed? Is the ride stiff? Did you have mileage restriction by the owner? Was this taped in North of Mono Lake in the Eastern Sierras? I have a 95 Geo Prism with 199,725 miles if you need a whip for next video.
The California is definitely one of my all-time favorites. Probably only second to the '14 911 Turbo S, and even then I'd struggle choosing it over this.
I love that you guys emphasize how a car can be great not because it is the fastest around a race track but because how it makes you feel. I'm sick and tired of people doing the "that car sucks because this car is faster". Living in Denmark I would probably think that an American muscle car would be more fun because BMWs are just so readily available. HP can mean a lot. So can handling. They are both totally overestimated when it comes to the experience of driving pleasure.
Question.....why do Ferrari v8s sound so much like Honda 4 cylinders engines? When he did the pull by the camera I swear I was listening to a s2000 go by. It's not an issue I'm just curious as to why Ferrari v8s sound so much different. Thanks guys
Answer: Cross plane vs flat crankshafts. Ferraris have flat cranks, most V8s have cross plane cranks. A flat plane crank essentially means that each bank of the V8 operates like an Inline 4 cylinder engine. The four pistons in one bank all fire 180° apart from each other just like an I4, so the exhausts can be tuned just like an I4s. The cross plane cranks in a typical V8 cause uneven firing order on each bank of cylinders which leads to the distinctive exhaust burble, but have half the secondary vibration amplitude that a flat crank does. Check out the "V8 engine#Crankshaft_design" wikipedia entry.
One thing you should've mentioned after the firsts: the lasts. This will be the last Ferrari to ever offer a manual transmission. Going forward it's automatic-only. The California is cool, but it's no Mondial. You should review a Mondial. A Ferrari for Camry/Accord price, the spirit of Everyday Driver!
Hands down I would take this over the R8 and for two reasons. A.) It's a Ferrari. B.) It has a usable trunk and almost 4 seats (almost) So I could throw a few towels in the back, load up the family, and cruise down to Newport. I don't think i'd be able to in the R8.
i once bought a car that was parked beside one of these in a used lot. the roof is very, very low to the ground and so is the floor. it had an automatic and a back seat. IMO that's not a sports car. (i read they only made three(!) with a manual BTW).
I was in one, in Italy, yesterday and it had 40,000 miles on it! Still worked like a charm, really is a beautiful car!
Im picking up my 2014 model this weekend. Very Excited!
BENCOINTERNATIONAL how was it?
5 years later😂😂😂😂😂
Dork. "Look at me look at me look at me"
Bahja Awil ya I want to know too🤔😎🏁

Hands down the most underrated guys on youtube. Top stuff chaps.
Awesome review.. and the perfect weather makes it feel like a dream
This is definitely one of the best video reviews of a Ferrari or ANY exotic sports cars of all time because of the reviews' very good descriptions.
Fantastic review! It's videos like this that I can watch all the way through. The presenters have a lot of personality. The camera work is done very well, it keeps the viewer's attention. Well done.

great review lads, ive just finished university and will be living at home for the next 4 years in order to save up for this dream car of mine.
This video just made me subscribe, love your analysis on the California

Wow, a Auto Review channel where the reviewers interact with their viewers! subbed. :)
You guys are the best American car reviewers!
I agree you guys should be on the American Top Gear!
How do u grow hair instantly?

Great review. You guys know ur history. Keep it up
Keep it up guys. I love this channel. ED and drive are the premier auto channels on UA-cam. I'd like to suggest an Audi A5. They are gorgeous cars.
This is a great review of what is a great car. I hope you guys are fortunate enough to review a 458 Italia.
This is really great job. well done & keep it up.
Best review for Ferrari California.
I was just in a Ferrari California today. Such an awesome car!
great videos, you guys always produce quality videos. If you ever get the chance, please test drive the C63 AMG.
I drove one today on a racetrack. It went ok but I hoped to be thrown back more. Didn’t beat the experience of a super bike but wonderful to have a go at.

Would be nice if you were given a bigger budget
I wonder if the DRIVE Channel could help you in that respect
Where was the location of the mountains you were driving?
It looks amazing!!
That shot is actually playing faster than real time. It's a lengthy but beautiful folding procedure.
I’m renting one tommorow
This review guys is awesome
Love convertibles. I just bought an SL 500 & loving it. These look & sound stunning. May switch to one when I have a little more money
Very informative review. Good.
unless u track your ferrari, this is the best ferrari to own!
You cannot possibly have any personal experience with the modern Ferrari line-up when you say something that silly.

This video is so true I appreciate it greatly
Beautifully made guys!
you guys got a little top gear thing going on with out even trying... keep up the good work
That single piece metal center console is just art.

What roads are those?

you guys have to review the f12 berlinetta awesome stuff guys!!
and the color combo is one of the best ive seen on a california...
The California is definitely one of my all-time favorites. Probably only second to the '14 911 Turbo S, and even then I'd struggle choosing it over this.
da first 30 seconds from 0:05 till 0:30 summarizes everything !!! (till da laugh)
I have a Alfa Giuliia Quadrifoglio, and was thinking keep the Quad, of go to a California?
In terms of pure driving pleasure, that happiness, that emotion, that zing, would you prefer the R8 or this California?
is that exhaust stock?
60 in 3.9. Thats good numbers. What a car
My dream car!
Great video! I am seriously considering buying one...but first I need 200k lol
Where was this filmed?
what a beauty!
haha you did the first thing I did when I first drove one and heard the sound.
"WOOO yeah haha"
I do like the exhaust outlet style though
A real world daily driver Ferrari for grown-ups. What more could you want?
how are the seats on the car? Is it good to buy to go on a 6 hour non stop drive?

they 're kinda into sounds like Bee's wings soung and not loud ones that's why i like cars like aston martin...

Thinking about changing my Porsche Boxster against this or a 911. What should I do?
I loved my 997 Carrera S, but my California 30 blows it away. And it’s a Ferrari. It’s a balls to the walls work of art that sounds like nothing else
finally a new video...
Can you tell me where is this road located ? Thanks.
first multi-link suspension? does that mean Ferrari have just used double wishbones in the past?
every month driver is back, kidding guys nice video.
I was wondering if that was real time or a time lapse. It was very quick.
Good job
The ferrita isla awsoe bit needs a tuneup
