The way the narrator introduces Danny Bergara as a former Uruguayan youth international haha He played 96 times for Sevilla and Bergara is the first foreign manager to lead an English club out at Wembley Stadium in 1992. Hopefully this does the man more Justice . RIP Danny
Agreed RIP Danny Begara, the injustice but it's no surprise is it He was told as much by Vick Buckingham back in SPain when he fist considered coaching here.
Watch this, Orient for a Fiver, Big Ron Manager and the Impossible job for an entire afternoon of football incompetence, outright despair and gallows humour.
So glad that Doncaster Rovers survived and is now thriving. The fact that Anton Johnson was seen as a saviour is unbelievable given the fact he was banned by the FA in the mid 1980s.
I went to the Keepmoat Stadium in 2015 with my team, Stalybridge Celtic (F.A. Cup First Round). A fantastic setup there and a tribute to the people that refused to let the Rovers die.
Thank you for this. I'm a young Doncaster fan searching about the history of my club. This is so much like Layton Orient with a shocking ownership. How we recovered from the administration is amazing
Never watched or even thought about dr but as a football fan , was a fascinating docco. So glad to hear they’re in league one now. I’m a new fan all they way from Australia
It feels like this sort of terrible situation is befalling more and more clubs these days, Coventry, Blackpool, Orient, to name but a few. Doncaster's situation gives hope that things can recover Hats off to all the fans who stuck with the club through those tough times.
Notts County fan here. But just look at em now. Superb stadium, brilliant young manager, and some really good players. The best team in league 2 this season, champions for a reason. How times' change in the beautiful game. Good luck Rovers, you deserve some good times.
I was born 1998. My dad took me as a baby to see the "last game in the football league". Going to Millennium Stadium and Wembley as a kid was amazing! I will never forget! RTID Edit: My grandad! @20:20
I had the pleasure of being a Southend away fan at the Keepmoat,as it then was, about 6 or 7 years ago.The result was a comfortable home win though 😢. Its good to see how well run the club now is. We at Southend have gone through and are still suffering similar problems; brought about by disastrous owners.
There is a documentary called Ashes To Glory, there is all different parts in a messed up order, number parts are in the discription of the videos, but the whole thing is on this channel link m.ua-cam.com/video/az6IHkg4pAQ/v-deo.html
@@CARLIN4737 in a much better ground for a start!! In a better situation now than they were in the documentary, that's for sure!! Although I don't know their current situation right now. Its got to be better than having an owner that pays someone to try and burn down the main stand of the ground where the club he owns play!!
Something similar happening at Gateshead. A arcehole running club into the deck except the council own the stadium and surrounding land so no financial gains to be had. The owner sent his henchman to a recent supporters meeting who answered questions. Still some senior pros in squad but they will probably go soon to be replaced by under 19s
Opposing sides are always relevant. They have a direct gain from one club's misfortune while capitalist interests can be a win-win-situation. Even when everything goes wrong you should still consider the few things which were good (not saying things should be milder though, quite the opposite). It's as important for football supporters to have a potential for making threats as it is important for that hate to be used in a constructive way and for the best of that particular team. Lately there has been a worrying tendancy within football culture all over Europe to blame everything on the money in the sport. The more money, the more independant can football be in contrast to other parts of society. Socialist agendas are also used as trojan horses to sell in inter-club organisation, which would basically be the death of lower league clubs as they would be reduced to puppets. I personally support a club which has been run worse than any other club I bloody well know and there are plenty of people around here who'm I wouldn't have mourned, but there really are no shortcuts. The only way is to keep fighting and to fight your own fights, nobody else's. PS. Död åt mff!
Dra åt Helvete The club's self titled 'benefactor' Ken Richardson deliberately ran the club into the ground after the council wouldn't let him sell the ground. The darkest days in the club's proud history. The fans mobilised and gave Richardson and Weaver richly deserved absolute hell.
That's like saying 'stop criticising the government, look at all these other countries trying to take advantage of us!' If you actually care about a club you should be calling out incompetent/maleavolant management. Fair play to the Doncaster fans, i'd love to see a follow up after watching this.
I enjoyed watching this when it first aired. It's always a shame how the smaller clubs in the lower divisions struggle, compared to the Premier League and the Championship. I have to admit I didn't enjoy listening to the verbal abuse on Mr Weaver, whatever his faults,I don't think that's never acceptable. Good to see Doncaster recover though.
What I don’t understand is why that fella Weaver was antagonising the fans by coming the the final game ? My only theory is that he must have wanted to savour being manager/involved at a football match with thousands of people there because he knew he’d never manage again.
hahaha You're so right! Sounds just like him :D I always thought Terry Tibbs did sound slightly foreign and this guy sounds exactly like him sometimes.
Can remember Donny being a laughing stock at the times, seems a lot longer then 20 years ago. Feels like watching a documentary on a Northern Counties East Side rather then a professional football league club.

Heres a Accrington one aswell
There’s a Luton one as well but can’t remember what it was called though...
Luton one is trouble at the top
add chester city: an american dream to that list as well tbh

after not buying doncaster he proceeded to purchase scarborough from another fraud in john russell, then essentially bankrupted us!
He was dodgy at Southend United in 1980s 😢

Since when has 3rd place been champions?
Yeah lol. They shanked it at the end didn't they?
What division is that?
True football supporter at 33:37, doesn't matter who you support the memories are real!!
I vaguely remember this programme on channel 5, thanks for the upload, Carlisle Fan :-)
Kudos to Doncaster for how they have recovered. Seems a very well run club at the moment.

Need to make a movie on this...comedy or drama doesn't matter!
It's amazing that this isn't a mockumentary.

RIP the Uruguyan Pele
One major error at 44:50 - Neil Gregory's goal came on 57 minutes, not "five minutes from the end" as narrated. Another pitch invasion followed that.
Perfect for the lockdown
Quickly Kevin brought me here
me too
Just saw there old stadium. Wow, would have been one i would have gone to!
Ken Richardson should never be allowed to buy a pack of matches again !
I'm pretty sure Churchill said "Never surrender"
pudboy123456 nah mate he definitely said "never fucking give up".
We will never surrender ! forgive me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall this as the saying attributed to the great man.
@@kingwells2 Rumour has it he said it in the same south american accent.
Should have done a follow up. How they went from this to where they are now
I'd definitely watch that

It's like a Yorkshire version of That Peter Kay Thing.
Haha spot on! Was thinking the same before I saw your comment
Apparently Mr Weaver turned back up on Twitter last year. I would love to watch an interview with him from the last decade .
I'm a year late but Mark Weaver did an interview on a website about what happened to Doncaster Rovers when he was there.
I was about to ask whatever happened to him
The interview is on Away On Saturday which is a Doncaster Rovers fan blog.
20 years this season.
Respect to Mark Weaver.
I lived in Doncaster at the time and remembered saying that Mark could have just walked away.
NEXUS MINDWARPED AMERICA. He was getting paid to be the puppet, money for old rope. Why would he walk away?
The man was actively supporting a criminal, he deserved everything he got.
"The youth team have to train in the stands" 😮😂
mike bassett springs to mind here 🙈🙈

It’s like a real life Mike Bassett
Bergara's accent is all over the place.
Lol, Great isn't it?!
@La Verdad and he's Spanish.
@La Verdad thanks mate.
What's Mark Weaver up to now?
Matthew Salisbury he’s my grandad no joke he owns a Sunday football club
@@taylorweaver7737 Brilliant
109 places below? Doesn’t he mean 91?
...is the kid at 0:30 dressed up as a vampire?
Changed the numbers to fool the opposition and he ended up confusing himself 😂 30:31 Chesney Hawkes?
Although I think the anger on show could've been better used if directed against the opposing sides it's good to see actual passion from fans.

a team dragged down by incompetent management is truly sad
Danny Bergara was a good manager and player.
This though was a mistake

Foreign manager sounds like Terry Tibbs, you wanna buy a car...
How are Doncaster 109 places below Arsenal in the football league when the football league and Premiership has a total of 92 teams?
Very surprised to see Gordon Strachan sat on a Doncaster Rovers Supporters coach @ 20;18 ???? :)
What I don’t understand is why that fella Weaver was antagonising the fans by coming the the final game ? My only theory is that he must have wanted to savour being manager/involved at a football match with thousands of people there because he knew he’d never manage again.
Mark Weaver I was only taking orders.
Danny bergara did well at Stockport county in the early 90’s if I remember right
"Did well"
He has a stand named after him and a living legend
@@County-ej8vj that’s doing exceptionally well !!
