ROKBUGY the real life RC Car

- The ROKBUGY is a product of a project gone on too long and the crazy imagination we have here at the Garage. After staring at a would be desert race car for about a year, Nic decided to breathe new life into an old Bug in the form of a rear steer crawler buggy. Several months later the ROKBUGY hit the trails and has been turning heads since. We're finally here with a deep dive on what makes this one of a kind build work.

My favorite part about the video was Nic Ashby working tirelessly in the shop and making a hard top convertible.

Wow! You have totally changed my concept for an LS powered NHRA certified Beetle. Now, I will do a removeable top so I can remove the roll cage to have it as a daily driver when not drag racing. Thank you for the idea. This really helps me build a car I can enjoy on the street and the strip.

My favorite part of the build is the sick cage with the removable hard top. It was pretty cool of ya holding up filming to let the young lady get to enjoy it up close and personal. You gotta give her a ride in it.

It’s hard to pick one thing to like about the rock bug. I am completely obsessed with it. I’ve wanted to build my own ever since I first seen it. What grown man wouldn’t want his own full size RC car!!!

Me and my buddies have been build mud trucks for years. I have a Jeep that I have bogged the crap out of for years. Almost done with a mega truck and now I’m getting parts together to build a rock buggy. Excited about the east coast great American crawl.

Man, that cage is GNARLY. It’s truly a work of art and knowing they did it in a week. WOW. The whole build itself is one of a kind and in a class of its own. But the cage and frame job is just 🔥🔥🔥🔥

There are a thousand rear steer buggy’s out there. The way you grafted a VW body together with all the hard~core parts, and made it look like it belongs there, so cohesively, is incredible and completely unique. Nice job!

This is amazing!! My favorite part of RockBuggy is the attention to detail in EVERYTHING. From the overall design to the expert welding, the color choices, the seats, the Patriot Liner, K&N filter, Scosche products that enhance the experience - sooo many details. Just need a rooftop tent and I would live out of RockBuggy! This isn’t just a build - this is art. Nic Ashby and the Rockstar Garage team did it again! Can’t wait to see the next build!

@RockstarGarage I love that it's VW BUG but that u still got inspiration from a jeep with the jku frame and the removal roof I'm waiting for the doors to come off also lol that is one sick build hopefully one day my jeep can look half that good

Hands down Nic the end of this video is why I have huge respect for you and your builds, the fact you didn't edit out the interaction with a fan and how cool you were about interacting with her about your build just shows the massive caliber of your Character.

The rock buggy is a really cool build love seeing it, that cage tie in up top is gnarly and looks fantastic, love the front engine shoe horned in and it looks super clean. Also that convertible hard top was a fantastic touch!!

Really Nice Build guys.
I will say my favorite parts are the patriot liner and the color match. It makes the build. That being said, I have scosche mounts in most my rigs, they really do work.

I've always wanted to put a bug body on my Razor so to me it's the body I like the most it's badass
Love the build overall. My favorite part would have to be the removable top as all off-road vehicles should have one. The cage work is insane. Love the fact that you took two completely different vehicles and made them one. Hope to see this in person some day!!

My favourite part of the build??? Oh geeez... rear steer 🤔? I love that it's topless. I miss the days when the toss came off of 4x4's. Yes, we all KNOW the Jeeps(and new Broncos) do. But remember the Ramchargers, 4-runners, blazers, e.t.c. I think I'll go with that. The fab work... amazing! Love love love the build!! And the end of the video with the fan. Cherry on top. 👍👍

My buddies and I were talking about this and one of them reminded me of another guy we went to school with that's doing a bug. Maybe we CAN get them all out there on the rocks and do some really cool, stupid s**t together someday. 🤣😂👍👍

You made me Love the beetle so much I want total of all you made that I could never achieve I don't have the money or the skill set don't ever give up on your dreams people unless they are realistically too high but you don't know till you try try try again

i had to take my baja boss tires off n go to a toyo open country 38x13.5r18 the baja boss biggest 18 is a 35 or i would have another set

Feel better? Pretty welds don’t hold all the time and neither do ugly welds. When the parts start falling off I’ll catch up with you but if you look at Grdloc and tumbles it’s taken I’d say the welding is holding up

How is the fan noise and the heat in the cabin from the radiators in there?
Honestly we don’t have to run the fans all the time, it’s not that hot in their it actually cools off pretty fast when you run the fans. It is nice during the cold months leaving the fans off the radiator warms you up lol

Epic, love how you wanted an RC look for RokBugy the 1st time I saw it I wanted to build an RC version with full 4WS and a 3D printed LT engine. Looks like I will be getting some Scalefab supplies and attempting my 1st brazing project to duplicate what you have done with the suspension. Just like in real life the challenge will be getting the Gold look right on my Replica build. Thanks for the inspiration, I am sure I won't be the only one to create a scale version of your build.

I love the entire RokBugy build! I've been following the build since I first saw it at SEMA. I own a small rc car products company that supplies fabrication tabs for tube chassis builds. I'm slowly collecting parts to build a replica 1/10th scale version of the RokBugy!! I am, however, not finding scale versions of the Micky Thompson tires and the Dirty Life Canyon wheels, but I'm working on it.

I hope my thought translates into text and I don’t sound like an idiot but I really enjoy all the current tech/beef this thing has but also still utilizes a conventional “frame” that’s clearly visible. Lots of full tube builds running around which are sick too but this kind of gives me an old school vibe when I see it. @stevelknievel59

Saw it in daytona at the jeep beach and there was couple things I liked, the texture on the paint and the leather on the seats and the color combination very different from what the crawling crowd usually goes for. @federico_borda
