    Thanks for the demo. But perhaps it would be better not to use a chair with wheels for the one who is getting back up to sit on because if the helper doesn't hold it steady, the chair can roll backwards and another fall can potentially happen?
    Also, what can the fallen do if injured by the fall and can't get up (especially if by himself/herself) and can't reach a phone to call for help in Scenario 1? Please advise. Thanks.

    • @alprophysio
      @alprophysio  2 роки тому +8

      Hi there Angela. Indeed what you say is true regarding the chair with wheels and we've avoided using so however I believe at a glimpse it do resemble a wheeled chair. But thank you so much for pointing that out, I am sure it'll be of great information to many.
      Regarding your 2nd question, it is an unfortunate situation to be in for sure and these days often times the older folks are left alone without a carer due to work and time constraints. In such scenario, one of the best ways is to shout and call out for help. Once, my friend's grandmother found herself in such a scenario and there wasn't anyone to assist her so she called out over and over again till the neighbors heard her cry for help and called my friend. I'd suggest to get to know the neighbors of the individual and if possible, trade phone numbers.

      For such individuals, prevention and preparation of fall is still top priority. Preparation is terms of caregiver, personal alarm (giving them the ability to signal to others that something has occurred). If they do fall, it is best that a caregiver and or a medical provider be there to get them up. At such age with such condition, they are at higher risk of injury therefore, if possible, seek for medical help via St John Ambulance, Red Cross/Crescent Association. Thank you.

    What to do if the patient is bed ridden?

    • @alprophysio
      @alprophysio  2 роки тому +3

      In such a scenario, things would differ a lot as the patient is then fully dependent on those around. The best is to have 4 individuals about but also depending on the size of the patient, the more the better. If we're looking at 4, 1 holds around the chest while supporting the head, another by the knees and the other two by the sides supporting the hip and back. If we're having 2, similar but without those by the sides. At the same time, it depends how they would like to lift the patient. It could go from lying on the floor, picked up (still in lying position), and straight onto the bed lying. It could also go from lying on the floor, picked up (into a "standing" position), propped onto the bed "seated" then lowered into lying. Hope this answers your question. • @alprophysio

      That is very true. Often times the elderly underestimate their own capabilities, their ability to continue living an active lifestyle and it is unfortunate. @@alprophysio Hi, someone posted it in our group WhatsApp.
      I just thought to make some statement bcos I heard too many complaints of old age etc. I live a different perspective.
      Example, one middle-aged friend told me he sold his double storeyed house to move to a single storeyed house bcos he wanted to avoid the stairs. I chided him for that. Also, he walked around less now and would park his car nearest to the shop front.
      I see things differently. I feel the older ppl get, the less the work and the more time to do LIFE. If they are afraid then that is the beginning of their "rapid" end. They will wear down quickly in a year or two due to inactivity.

    • @charlescheechien8529

      Life is in the breath. Whatever physical activity must always be in rhythm with the breath. Heart failure occurs when activity is constantly forced against the natural rhythm. If you are familiar with qigong, you will understand the concept.
      Deep relaxing breaths and good posture are keys to good health. Age is just a number. Never use age to ruin your life. Good luck.

It may seem harsh however the case where they're on the floor, if possible, we still have to prioritize getting up. An alternative to crawling would be scooting on the buttocks and commando crawl (belly crawl). Hope this helps.
