    I believe that ancestral veneration and belief in nature as an entity is the universal "religion", the original religion. It exists everywhere, and I'm so glad that these customs and ways of life is making a resurgence over organised religion. I lost my mum earlier this year, and these customs and rituals have helped me heal. I'm so glad my mother (by example) passed on our traditions. I'm so fascinated by how similar we are as humans when we go far back in time.

      I believe the reason we are so much alike is that we all came out of the same city of Mesopotamia. We practiced the same traditions there for a very long time. A lot of the symbols from then we still have now; for instance, the all-seeing eye; which has always been used in almost every culture as protection from evil-just named differently by each group.

      I respect your beliefs, but different groups of people have different stories as to where their people came from. The story of the Mesopotamians is just one.

    In most Native Canadian cultures they say the spirits and ancestors can't taste or drink: but they can smell. So planting strawberry bushes to appease them, or offering fragrant foods is common so they can share by smelling. I think it's a lovely view of the spirit world and I think it could work well for any ancestor offering.

    Thank very much!! This was incredibly helpful. It helped me contextualize, and formulate in a concrete way, what I've been feeling and trying to do. While simple, this advanced my practice!! I look forward to more videos on the ancestors, as well as land spirits.

    Couldnt agree more brother - I just came across your channel and it’s rare and only literally a “couple” of heathen channels I’d watch the rest are not authentic to me - so I’m going to check out the rest of your videos and it’s nice to see a modern heathen making videos actually I feel I completely agree with good night people who just want to be Vikings and all that other type of unnecessary bullshit because they’re not really genuine heathens at heart, they are about it for all of the wrong reasons and I see right through them immediately and it sad what I feel is there much more people un-authentic than like yourself. So much respect your brother and look forward to checking out more of your videos . Shout out from Baltimore and be safe and take care brother .

    You mention giving offerings to ancestors as a way to repair that relationship, as I understand it. But what about ancestors that exhibited dishonor, or wickedness, or some such? How do you incorporate the ancestors that brought shame into the family line, into your practice?

    • @dutchpagans

      How would you handle yourself if you did something so wicked & dishonerable?
      When you know that you could proberbly copy paste that onto your ancestors.

      I hope that that awnser was usefull…

    I'm indian so my family's story's a tad different to white people and all but we used to worship our ancestors once. The story goes is the one we worshipped in the past was the first devout sikh in our family and the first one to comver to Sikhism. He instead of getting married died defending my families village. So in his name we became Sikhs. Overtime we have forgotten why we prayed to him hell this story was a guess. All we know is there's a white dome in India on my familys land where once my family worshipped. Supposedly buried beneath that is his body. We'd say sikh prayers in his name of course defeating the purpose of them but I've been in conflict over this whole tradition this worship and now that I know my parents and their parents and their parents never knew about this nor were taught about this. I feel a deep regret to losing this way of life in my family and honestly I'm planning on restarting it. Should I start my own tradition or should I revive the old one is a question I'm running in my mind now constantly

    I am honestly not behind this word worship. Honor and respect for knowledge from deities and ancestors feels more correct for me. Maybe it is a Christian background of that flavor of worship or my atheistic past. But I have not felt called to worship so much as commune and respect through nature.

      Veneration is mabye a more accurate word

    • @theunshelter
      @theunshelter Рік тому

      I feel that 100%. I had a strong Christian upbringing, and even though I'm pagan and speak and do things of favor type nature for deities/ancestors, and I can only do it from the mindset of a friendship/alliance type relationship as opposed to how I used to treat the Christian god, which was more like a slave/master. So I personally don't use the term "worship" myself, since my definition of the word doesn't fit my relationship or even intention. Others will grow up with different uses and exposures to words from us, but you can usually tell what they mean if you listen to how they talk about it, or you can always ask. But don't let their use of the word wreck your flow. They do them, you do you, and we are at peace

    Ancestors will never be able to do what Jesus can do. I understand that some people truly believe in connecting with dead things. I don’t judge them, I have sympathy for them because they’re seeking fulfillment in the old and not the new. There’s no good reason to seed, water or plant anything dead. It won’t grow. Therefore, there’s no good reason to communicate with, put faith or hope in anything that’s now dead including your ancestors. There’s no growth. It’s okay to value their memory but there’s no life in worshipping, and reverencing the dead. Please read the bible and ask Jesus to give you a real authentic experience with him as the LIVING word. Once you know the living word, you’ll understand how this is just strange teaching.
