I listened to flight deck stories from my late father a Pharmacist Mate on the CV-2, and my brother an AB on Randolph, Champ and Ti, saw the Bennington cat explosion near Quonset point. When I served it was silent SS339, SS349. Narragansett Bay
I hate you! Mannn... I have always loved the crusader. I used to see them as a child at airshows at Miramar (Fighter Town USA). My flightdeck time with fighters was tomcats and legacy hornets.
You always knew when they had an RF8-G on a catapult. They would light the Afterburners and the explosion could be heard throughout the ship. Instead of T bars they used what looked like Dennis the Menace's slingshot. Always rooted for the OG! Tomcats were alright, but them 'Lawndarts' they fly now, may as well be AF jets.
Makes me feel good. I'm a Navy vet and I also cook. COVID kinda messed up the trade. When I was leaving on venue I cooked in folks played the song for me .
3:30 in was the most loved airplane to land on the Connie...I did 2 tours on her off Nam then rode her into Bremerton ...where I was discharged Jan 76....IC Man Mark W.....
I got outta Bootcamp in April 76 and got orders to Connie when She came out of Bremerton. The rumor was the Skipper had the civilian workers add 11 feet to Her flightdeck making Her 'bigger' than Enterprise and the largest carrier in the world. I witnessed two things catapulted from Connie that I'm pretty sure no other CV can match. 1) The Skipper's Brown shoes when they were done away with and 'Somrbody's 53 GMC half ton pickup two days out of Subic on our way back home. . God, I miss Her.
Most if not of those old girls are gone or waiting for scrapping. Thousands upon thousands called them all home for a period in their life like I did. Things I haven’t seen in any other videos was what the enterprise looked like before the island was replaced, the old Carolina cod landing aboard. Memories!
Yeah was I guess they call it the old navy now. No females on board, smoking lamp was lit, they have it a little better than we did. And the old cod, flew off and on it a couple times.
That was my navy, (1965-78, 240 traps) last cruise was on the Connie.

Thanks a bunch. Brings me back 50 years to USS CONSTELLATION (CVA-64) and flight ops on Yankee Station.
Did 84 and 87 Westpacs on the Connie and a Norpac in between
USS KITTY HAWK 1969
My squadron was on loan from the IKE to the Connie in 1980 and I got to see RF-8Gs operate before they were retired🙂

Most of the population has no knowledge of the U.S.Navy's capabilities.
