As a C1A mechanic in the Navy, VRC 40 this video brought me right back to my first aircraft as that was the start of a long career as an aircraft Maintenance tech. Thank you for this video, and for reuniting me with my ol'friend. Go COD!
I flew the S-2 while going through Navy multi-engine flight training in Corpus Christi and hated it. It was like flying a brick. A very noisy brick that leaked oil everywhere. The only exciting flying was during carrier qualifications and the free deck launch. After leaving the deck, the plane would settle a few feet before climbing. Not a pleasant feeling. Flying the P-3 after I got my wings brought back my love of flying. Now, that was a wonderful aircraft.
My Dad flew the "Stoof" in the Navy from 1963 to 1969, He flew with VS-34 on the USS Essex (CVS-9). He is credited with the only "touch-and-go" landing on the water surface off the Essex , during a Med cruise (thanks to a failed cat shot)!
Bob if i said fuel efficient vs. Efficient compared to piston engines, their greater power-to-weight ratio (which allows for shorter takeoffs) and reliability can offset their higher initial cost, maintenance and fuel consumption. As jet fuel can be easier to obtain than avgas. Good catch. thank you.

A very cool video on a cool day. I hope you have a great turnout for Veterans Day.
I was a crewman on #146052 off USS Forrestal CVA 59 It had bad breaks.
A turboprop is not more fuel efficient than a recip. It is lighter and can be more powerful but its fuel consumption per HP is higher.
