      Any thoughts on beneficial nematodes?

    • @Sharon-lj8kb
      @Sharon-lj8kb 4 роки тому

      @@OneTrippin what is that??😁

    • @OneTrippin
      @OneTrippin 4 роки тому +1

      @@Sharon-lj8kb a small microscopic worm like pest. Typical nematodes most agcalturalists think of are the ones that infect and destroy crops.
      However beneficial nematodes can are a few species live in non sterile soils that likes to infect grubs and other insects. They multiply inside the body of their host and kill it kinda like a zombie. Then spill out into the soil to seak out more bugs. Basically fighting nature with nature. Tried it a few years back and had little problems with bugs the whole summer. Next summer I didn't use them and my garden and lawn were attacked with vigor. Going to try them again this summer to see if it makes a difference.

    I just used a 2000 square foot tarp cover the lawn from 10pm to 8am in the last two weeks of June so grubs won’t lay eggs in my lawn. I did it for seven years and my lawn has no grub problems at all.

    For years my front lawn would turn yellow in summer and I thought it was a water problem. I tried different fertilizers, more water, nothing worked. Finally I did some digging and found just a couple grubs. I put down grub poison and in two weeks the lawn was perfectly green.

    I had a white grub issue last year here in Maryland. Pretty bad. I used the BayerAdvanved Grub Control product as well as my usual bifenthrin treatments. This year I had zero white grub issues at all. I wiped them out and was super pleased to do so. Bifenthrin on a religious schedule is really an incredible product for anybody who has any type of insect issue.

    I’ve been killing the grubs to try and get the moles under control. I came across a suggestion to use Milky Spore granules. Supposed to last up to 20 years if put down 3x a year for two years. Kind of expensive if you have a large yard but one bag covers 7k sq ft and not if it works. Plus it’s natural.

I actually pulled one up on the end of the fork, very satisfying!! I can imagine getting them in the trap is as well. Happy hunting.

    New to the channel, recent first time home buyer, horrible yard that I am ready to put the work into and build it up. My sticking point is I have a Great Dane and his safety is paramount. Are there pet safe options out here to help with grubs? I know they are probably not nearly as effective as the big gun chemical options out there, I can live with that. I can’t live with a beautiful lawn but risking my dogs life or health to achieve it

I use a multi pest control to hit the fleas and ticks so I throw it down every 35 day and I do it so vigorously because the first year I owned this property grubs hit me so hard if the fall my turf was coming up like a carpet. I hit it extra hard in the fall to make sure we keep it green until the snow falls

    Hi Aalyn, been helping my neighbor get his lawn back into shape but he had some pretty extensive grub damage last fall. I just threw down some grubex for this seasons preventative, but was wondering about spraying some Dominion 2L to wipe out the ones that overwintered and are still there. The lawn is a cool season lawn located on the shore in central NJ. Also, i cannot thank you and all the other youtubers for all the great content as my lawn is an absolute beast and my neighbors bust my chops for how thick, deep green and lush it is. Preventative not really correct term. June bugs still lay eggs in grass with the insecticide. It just helps get a jump start on the new grubs. Corrective should be used in spring since they are already grown. However hard to kill when that mature, which is why most say don't worry about spring. I find Arena works great. Put it on heavy in early spring if you think the lawn is infested. Then again in July for new worms. Also Arena won't degrade if you can't water immediately. Most require watering within a few days.

    I loved this very informative video! We're in southeast PA. We have what looks every spring like our yard is a mole (or vole, I'm not certain) superhighway, lots of absolutely bare spots about 12" in diameter. The mole/vole population is bad enough that planting tulip bulbs is out of the question, they're apparently a delicacy for moles/voles. For us, this is a two-prong issue and a solution would be a literal win-win: reduce the grubs and you reduce the moles/voles. We consistently have used either milky spore and/or GrubEx. I've been told milky spore can be less harmful (from a chemical agent standpoint), but that it can take a couple of years to see significant results. In your opinion, is milky spore genuinely effective on grubs? Additionally, over the past couple of years we've noticed the hibiscus plants are VERY appealing to beetles and by summer's end the leaves are chewed on to the point where they look almost like lace! To further discourage beetles from hanging around, we got rid of all the hibiscus plants. In addition to applying a preventive product in the spring and a grub killer in the fall, are there any additional tricks we might try to reduce the grubs so, in turn we can significantly reduce the moles/voles? Thank you for your input.

    Sevin lawn granules doesn't work well as a curative for grubs anymore because they changed the formula several years ago from Carbaryl to Binfen/Zeta Cypermethrin.

    I was wondering what happened to the lawn last summer ! We had Raccoons peeling back the lawn and that’s when we learned it was grubs. This video came at a wonderful time. Thanks for the content. I was wondering about starting over and putting down new seeds to grow new turf. You have any ideas on how to restart.

    First off, Thanks for all the great videos that are both informative but also entertaining! Keep up the great work. Quick question, I sprayed some beneficial nematodes about a week ago in hope of killing off some of our grubs. We have a few visible brown spots from them, but 90% of our lawn is doing great. Due to pets I always try to start with the natural approach first. Do you suggest I try a few applications of more nematodes or go the chemical route in this video? I'm not sure if these chemicals will kill off the nematodes that are also working their magic against the grubs.
    Thanks!

    I get monster beetles. The size of a large grape. They leave large dirt mounds.

    It's early April and the skunks and raccoons are decimating our lawn. Even though it's April 5, can we use the 24 hour (dylox) product to control the mature grubs that the skunks etc. are feeding on?

    Good Video. I am converting my lawn from Bermuda to Zoygia. While removing the Roundup killed Bermuda grass I noticed grub worms. On average about 2 grubs per 4 square feet. After seeing this video I do not need to treat. However I did see a lot of earthworms , which is good. Do products used to control grub worms impact earthworms?

    Hey Allyn,We folks in Florida would like a video with some in depth information about sod web worm.
    It would appear there is some similarity in treatment and life cycle with grubs and we need to jump on them now... HELP!

    Should I put down the 24 hour as well as preventative now in late April in the northeast? Have huge problem with animals digging up the lawn currently with holes everywhere!

    My beagle digs up the grubs and eats them. So my lawn has a bunch of holes everywhere. She's a great hunting dog ,best I've ever had. So I'll live with some holes.......

    Glad I found this video, but unfortunately too late. I had a beautiful St. Augustine lawn until this summer/fall. About 2/3 of it turned yellow and brown and I had no clue why. Dug in a few spots and found grubs. Common Bermuda and kyllinga have taken over. I’m treating for grubs and putting down Image for the kyllinga. May end up with a Bermuda lawn before it’s all said and done…

    I live in Michigan. I bought a few bags of the bioadvanced season long grub control. Do I need to time it with spring milorganite applications, and patching repair seeding? Or do these products not affect one another if applied within a close time window? Thanks
