Carolyn....i swear by this!!!! Hot water bottle(large one)... put near to boiling water in it and keep it in your bed linens at night and the heat from it stays toasty all night...xxxx I lived in England for a decade and that's what we used for warmth and aches/ pains.
Actually do NOT fill in almost boiling water, the hot water bottle is rubber, it will destroy it over time (and that could also burn the user, never mind the leakage in your bed, and the loss of the bottle. 60 degrees C will be fine - I killed one bottle that way (over the sink). It was old and worn down, then came the stress with too hot water. I read in an old book that they used to put still hot cooked potatoes into the pockets of coats (cooked wit h peel and of course dried with a towel) when they drove in a sledge in winter. Or heated bricks. (Laura Ingalls Wilder books Little Girl In the Woods). so precooking for the next day, putting them into a clean linen bag and using them to preheat the bed. Hot rocks - or cast iron - would be ok. if packed into cotton or linen. it will not burn you and the fabrik can stand the heat. But of course rocks that are heated _can_ crack or explode when you heat them up. Will not happen often, but it does. I guess two hot water bottles (or cold water in summer) that are not too much filled up to save water would be fine.
I enjoyed watching your video. I am not an RVer. But my H and I bought a used pull behind TT, and did some camping at the end of the summer and I LOVED IT!!! Not so much for him! I plan on doing a lot of camping next year and I will take my cast iron. Thanks for your videos I learn so much from watching some of you. By the way my H and I have been married 50 yrs. we are almost 70 got married really young. Take care and I'll be watching for your new videos!
I'm just a wanna be, living vicariously through UA-cam RVers, but this is a great video! Lots of great info and I love your energy. But I like the calm Carolyn too! HAHAHA! ❤
Cast iron is good to cook with as it adds iron to the food....good for women that don't eat meat. I like to use apoxy glue, it works better for those things which refuse to stay together even with super glue. Thank you for your list...nice camera work when you were floating over the water :-)
Hi, Carolyn. Good argument for the two-part dutch oven - I like what I have but I may switch over in due course. I have a whole drawer of glues and tape. I have found any of the GOOP products to be outstanding regardless of which type (household, automotive, rv) and that they can be used almost universally...including my rv roof. The industrial velcro - I am so glad to see someone else appreciates this stuff. I've never had the glue on it lift if I prepped the surface first with rubbing alcohol. I've used yards of the stuff. It used to be available in white, too, but I haven't been able to find that anymore. You are right about the leveling blocks - you can need a lot of them sometimes, especially on a dually back axle where two tires on the same side need to be lifted. I prefer the ones without the handles - I have 18 of them and I have used them all at once on occasion. I learned about a slightly less expensive alternative to Eternabond...at an rv sales and service shop called Little Dealer- Little Prices in Phoenix. ... I was able to buy Dicor self-stick rubber roof "tape" by the foot. It's about 6" wide and bits and strip can be cut off the roll as needed for the size of the project just like Eternabond. Recognize your location - stayed there for a few days last winter/spring. Looking forward to your seminar and M & G in Quartzsite. Keep up the great work!!
Pow BatGirl ... great list . I’ve been using my mother’s cast iron skillet for 40 years she had it 20 years before she gave it to me.. it’s wonderful! It has Many Many great meals behind her .. keep up the terrific work .. Chart Your Course , Betsy
I just love your videos, thank you for all you do for all of us who live through you. You always give me the little push i need to get me closer to go on the road.
Love my cast iron skillet. I need to get a dutch oven. Eternabond saved my RV. When I got it it had major roof leaks and a friend got on my roof and really saved me. Good ideas and good video.
cast iron can leach some iron into your food so you could possibly get too much iron. I found 912 led bulbs for $1.50 on ebay vs $27 + HST at canadian tire
Jann Webb oh no, it the kind used in the film industry.. ever seen “gaffer” in the credits? Well they use the tape. From Wikipedia. Gaffer tape (also known as gaffer's tape or gaff tape[1] as well as camera tape and spike tape for narrow, coloured gaffer tape) is a heavy cotton cloth pressure-sensitive tape with strong adhesive and tensile properties. It is widely used in theatre, photography, film and television production, and industrial staging work.[
Great info Carolyn, I'm looking into an rv and a six month tour of the US, an option I hadn't thought of until I came across you on utube by the way. I have a few challenges to overcome but feel all the more ready thanks to your videos, not to mention your bare honesty. If this dream comes true it will be in large part due to you and Eric,Ausia and Caravan Carolyn.
I just have to let you know your thanksgiving message was the best one ever. You really said it all. Finding the real you. Us seeing the real person in our selfs. You make me smile, laugh everyday. Thank you Carolyn and of course Capone. Love him.
Carolyn, you are adorable. The list is fantastic and you showed/demonstrated the items in the cutest way. I love it. Keep the videos coming. I can't get enough. :)
Great ideas. As always another video and as Patricia said you do sound Happy. I would like to add that I really like the quirkiness of this video. As always, stay safe and God bless.
Here's a little info on cast iron cook pots, season and clean at the same time. Use about a TBS of oil and a TBS or so of salt. Scrub the inside with that mixture and any food residue will come loose and it will be seasoned with the oil. Works great.
Yes, that's how my mom used to do it. She would come at you with a rolling pin if you tried to put that pan in the sink while washing dishes. Just wasn't done :-)
Flower Child ohhhh seeing the word “abuela” reminds me of the novel Bless Me Ultima... I was just reviewing my favorite quote from the book because I was in a dark place. Antonio’s abuela ( grandmother) told him as she neared death “I bless you in the name of all that is good and strong and beautiful, Antonio. Always have the strength to live. Love life, and if despair enters your heart, look for me in the evenings when the wind is gentle and the owls sing in the hills. I shall be with you-“. ....
Senorita Reyes, I'm not LS Allard, but I made the original post about salt & oil. Salt is a great sanitizer. That's why people salt meat to preserve it, kills germs that cause decay. Also, salt is course and scrubs away any food residue and the oil seasons the pan. It's a perfect concept for iron pots and pans. I love my cast iron!
Some time in the future please do a video on leveling. I know that maybe sounds too elementary... but I've not seen one elsewhere and I've heard some others wonder as well. Why is it important... What is the process...Any tips/tricks?
Great video !! You are just becoming a pro at this. Great tips on the things needed out there. Thanks for doing what you do.. and wow at your beautiful blue eyes in the leveler shot !! They really stood out in that light. Stay safe out there and “woof “ to Capone ❤️
Yay! Carolyn, I knew you had a big heart thank you so much for rescuing that Doggie, I do the same thing actually I rescue dogs and cats. That really makes me happy
Really helpful on the cast iron Dutch Oven! Thanks! Was trying to decide as I do have fav ceramic lined nonstick pans I was going to take but maybe no longer.
Great video Carolyn, thank you. I enjoy your humor when you are laughing at yourself. PS also wanted to say you are looking really well these days - happy & healthy.
Cast iron is amazing whether camping or at home. I have a deep fryer that has been in our family for generations. Well seasoned!!! But even if you mess up the seasoning or get a bit of rust you can scour it and re-season. Mine makes the best steaks on our electric stove! It's also seen us through ice storms and hurricane power outages when used in a fireplace, grill, or woodstove.
So happy for you - a new home is always exciting ...looking forward to the videos to come, showing us how you've settled in! (oops! -this was my comment on your new RV!)
I have a pan like yours. My grandmother always called it a chicken fryer. It works almost like a broaster. We use the lid of it for cornbread. Works really great! Haven't been out yet, but got out camper trailer. Maybe one day we will meet. Eventually.
Well done Carolyn - a good list - the white water hose is new for me - so it is a good day because I learned something new - your Dutch oven is a real deluxe version that you can easily make a haybox for it - real hay gives better flavour but Styrofoam beads work well too and saves energy - I hope one day to have a compact stealth RV if my health allows. God Bless T.
Thank you Carolyn, great tips! I know you hear this all the time, but you're so brave and inspiring, you make me want to get out there and live and see the world myself! Helpful? Oh yeah!!! That was awesome sauce!! Would you recommend filtering the water at the spicket before sending through the hose or filtering just before going into the fresh water tank?
Thank you for the great list. I love cooking with cast iron as well. Besides using them on the stovetop and oven, I use them on campfires and on top of the wood stove. The Dutch oven is great because you can cook in it with hot coals or charcoal on the lid. I have my great grandmother’s cast iron pan plus I’ve bought and refurbished some old ones from antique stores. Thanks for posting the link to yours - really like that setup!
G Carolyn thanks for the smooch!!! Another item might be a tire pressure gauge!!! Your hair looks good long and natural you have nice hair it would be a shame to cut it well in my opinion!!! Okay sweetie safe travels!!! Don at cool Cove!!!
That was a great video Carolyn!!!!!.Thank you for sharing with us newbies!!!!!!.I almost there.House needs to be sold and I am out of here.I will be traveling with my three fur babies.I hope I get to meet you some day soon. You have such a wonderful light inside of you.I wish you safe and healthy travels.Be safe girl. Please kiss your fur baby for me.He is so handsome.
I learned a lot watching the video and is a lot of use's for an cast iron pot and lid. To me is not a bonus but is new found knowledge on how stuff is done. I learn a lot from a handful of popular folks RVing and there channel on UA-cam.

From a decades user of cast iron. Extreme tmp changes will destroy your cast iron also it does not hurt and is in fact benificial to clean with water. Use a spray bottle and do while it is still warm and make sure it is dry and then dry it again.
We put some of the very warm rocks from the campfire into the dutch oven and set it on a fireproof mat, to heat the tent.

Well done with a lot of emthusiasm! I don't know how you so easily handled that cast iron pot. Those things are heavy!!
Wow such energy Carolyn You must have had some Peets coffee left over :)
