@thequantifiedscientist How do you extract the data from Huawei Health? I would really like do this is the standard export functionality is very basic and I would like to use my data in other environments. Thanks in advance if you could make the time to reply.
Huawei has installed the new and, according to Huawei, even more accurate TruSensor 6.0 in the Watch GT 5 Pro. In terms of heart rate measurement, we can attest to the very high accuracy of the smartwatch compared to a Polar H10 chest strap as a reference device. There were no deviations in the resting heart rate. For the dynamic performance heart rate during a bike ride, the values of the Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro were only 0.5 percent higher than the chest strap.
My GT5 started to be completely off on heart rate after about 5 runs. Maybe it's just a dud but the values are impossible. The battery indicator also started acting strange. It claims I only lost 2 percent on a 60 minute run while listening to MP3s stored on the watch. That's impossible.
more or less a month ago I bought a GT4, and considering this scientific review, the only thing I miss, is the possibility to use a small keyboard to answer to notifications...😎
I don't think Huawei is intentionally degrading its sensors. Rather, it is the randomness of the test on a specific day, with specific movements, ambient temperature, etc. Perhaps if we tested the gt3 pro again now, the results would be lower. What the author talks about in each video.
New sensor can also take time to get zoned in. There have been several watches/trackers that improved quite a bit with software updates and better algorithms.

Thank you for the review. From what I can see, the only changes seem to be the sensor and a slight design tweak. Why hasn’t Huawei introduced any new health metrics like HRV tracking or Body Battery/Training Readiness? I own the GT4 and honestly there isn’t much difference compared to the GT5. The GT4 is almost perfect once they add HRV tracking and Training Readiness they could really dominate the market. I’ve been waiting for these features since the GT3 none of the reviews I’ve seen on the Huawei watches highlight that there is no HRV tracking. Rob they might listen to you if you recommend it. Keep up the great work.
I think they already have the training readiness feature. I have a GT5 Pro and it says how effort I exerted during exercises and how much recovery time I need before I exercise again.
I am the happy owner of the GT4 as well as the GT Runner. I use each depending on the setting (work or formal vs gym use). The GT5 Pro doesn’t look to be an upgrade for me. However, any of the Huawei’s will be much better than the 2 previous Garmins I owned. I’m particularly happy with the existing heart rate and GPS accuracy, as well as the big, bright, colourful screen, with a massive constantly updated range of free and paid watch faces to choose from. Oh, and of course, the battery life is just unbeatable. The only thing it doesn’t do well is sleep tracking, but that has never been a useful feature for me on any watch I’ve owned.
Hi, I am looking to buy either GT4 or GT runner. I mostly want it to track my runs and workouts. Listen to music while on a run and do not carry my phone with me. The running assistant and other niche features are drawing me towards GT Runner. Could you please suggest which one should I go for?
Unfortunately not. I always wear my Garmin Instinct 2X on one wrist and a Huawei on the other when running - because of the music player. I am very happy with the GT3 and Fit 3 but the GT5 was only good for the first few runs. Now it started showing completely wrong heart rate data. It claims my heart rate is higher downhill than uphill. It's often 20 beats off from any other watch. Also - the battery indicator started acting up too. It claimed yesterday that I only lost 2 percent battery after a 60 minute run while listening to a podcast on the watch. That's impossible. I hope a restart fixes it but if not, I will return it. It's sad because the GPS is excellent and the GT5 has a few more features for runners like running form that the GT3 didn't have.
actually it feels same as xiomi band series. at start of new band it always worse then previous. after couple months of update it usually catch up and sometimes exceed
It's probably not about the HR sensor, it's about the design of the watch, a similar thing for the GPS usually (antenna design). There's also the variability from person to person. If you really want precision you need to get a chest strap, can't avoid that. I've seen people mention that even with Apple's devices they had issues sometimes. BTW, I remember it mentioned on some reviews that he didn't do intervals when running and that is very relevant for the precision, as that's probably when the HR sensor is less precise, because of the spike in HR.
@@xtrwq True, but there are also some variables that can screw up heart rate accuracy. Like sweat, hairs, tattoos, skin color and simply the watch band not being tight enough. Many people don't know about this and blame the watch.
It doesn't make any sense to re-review it as availability is now more limited and views would be too. The Watch Ultimate has an identical sensor to the GT3 Pro, and an even bigger body (which seems to be helpful on this series of sensor). It'd get a lot more views and also tell us where the software is at now.

They are not random... They have the same sensor suite. It's either the sensors are not calibrated/tested before shipment or the tester is not wearing them properly including the reference device. This explains why youtuber testing and proper funded studies are so different in results 😉
Waiting for Amazfit T-Rex 3, its almost the same category. For GPS tracking test, the best would be a well known same path - following a football field lines is the best. Any deviation from it then its a deviated readings. The penalty lines can be use as a random walk but within boundary.

Can someone explain this? I don’t get it. Apple Watches don't automatically track sleep unless you set a bedtime, and they can't detect short naps either, like the ones we take in the afternoon. How is it considered the best sleep tracker? My Honor Band 6 and 7 auto-detect sleep and naps perfectly, and I’ve never had any issues. I'm so confused.
Just watch the videos. They are considered best because their results align best with the reference device. He explains it in every video. He got a PhD in body measurements. He only cares about the values, not feature sets. You, on the other hand, did not test the MiBand against reference devices, do not have a relevant PhD. Therefore, you should trust your judgement too much
Thanks for the in depth review :) Hoping to request a review of the Ultrahuman Ring Air please! I'd love to see it side by side the Samsung Galaxy Ring because I feel most comparisons/reviews online seem a bit disingenuous.
I believe a revisit after an update would be very much appreciated, I'm on the fence about getting either the Fit 3 or the GT5 and so far it's not looking great for outdoor running (that's my main thing)
Get the Fit 3. My GT5 is buggy. The first 5 runs, heart rate was fine. Now it's completely off. 20 beats too low (I run the same route every day so I know what my heart rate should be) or 10 beats too high. Also never seems to go above around 140 beats even though I know it should be higher on the uphill parts of my run. Battery indicator also started acting weirdly and claims I only lost 2 percent after a 60 minute run while listening to MP3s stored on the watch. That's impossible. Before it was around 7 percent. Now only 2? A restart didn't change anything. I'll try a complete reset. If it doesn't fix the issue, I'll return it as it's still under warranty. It's too bad because I really like the watch apart from these issues. They added "running form". GPS is spot on compared to my Garmin. The GT3 always added length on the run. Fit 3 works perfect so far however.
@MrSeedi76 thanks a lot for this comment you saved me on a lot of money (3th world country citizen LMAO) I honestly think holding on to my Band 6 isn't a bad idea after all since the heart rate accuracy is extremely decent I may upgrade to the Band 10 since I'm sure it will be so close to the fit 3 accuracy and save up on the money for a better use

Thank you for this great review video. For a person over 40, an EKG can be very important. Therefore, my choice is the Pro version. It would also be great if you could make a comparison video of the EKG performance of capable devices.
Hey you should really re-test the Huawei watches that have received updates, to see if they had improved the health monitoring. Because sometimes it's not about the sensors nor the body weight of the watch but rather a software update that tend to positively or negatively imapct the health monitoring.
Something is wrong, you should test again the whole huawei watches from gen3 to gt5 pro. Probable a software update will put some order. Impossible gt5 pro perform worse than previous gt3.
@TheQuantifiedScientist by looking on your graphs and comparing the watches how they come from the manufacturer my conclusion is that most watches with stretchy or silicon straps are performing better compared to metal bracelet which logically would make sense. Are you able to confirm ?
considering both have the same sensors suite and software with results not confirming to each other is strange. This has to be explained otherwise I think you must be wearing the watches differently hence the skewed result for the same sensors.
Man you are... I dont have a words to describe it. I am looking for a smartwatch with good sport measurements so i am now thinking about garmin watches, today saw this huawei on our Polish youtube, then immediately thought about you and what I see, BAM video about watches i am interested in. ❤❤❤❤❤
Which watch do you recommend for mostly sleep tracking and automatic health alert? Due to my job I cannot wear any watch during daytime except over the weekend, so I use it for sleeping. Looks like an Apple watch 8 is a very solid choice.
Thank you for your speed, dedication and amazing work. Very interesting results. I'm checking out Huawei now that Google's Wear OS is increasingly strangling the Playstore app advantage for tailoring the watches, making them less smart.
Thank you for this wonderful and useful video. Although the new versions disappointed me, after this video I decided to buy the fourth version because it has a beautiful design and has the same accuracy in tracking heart rate, and its price has also become reasonable.
I hope Huawei people watch this review and fix the sleep stage algorithm especially because apple has been able to be on top of this and no reason Huawei cannot do well also in this functionality
I was planning to buy the GT5 to replace my GT3 runner... But after that... I am not sure! And buying the new Google watch for twice the price... Not sure either
Thanks for the video Rob! I want to replace my Huawei GT 2 and have waited for todays launch. But to be honest I m very unsure what to do. The Pro version is nice, but a surcharge of about 150.- is a little bit too much. So I might check out some other reviews and decide then. Competition is strong, especially with the Pixel Watch 3, which unfortunately has only 1 day of battery life
Thanks for the review. Hope you review the gt3 pro again in 2024. I've been wanting to buy that, and it's only 1 available in the store. But i dunno if it's still worth it in 2024
I wonder what the manufacturing tolerance would be if two identical models were compared. I wouldn't be surprised if the difference was similar to "Pro" and "NonPro"
I have to say I always use Huawei watch because the Huawei gets the basic function and give you really long time using battery. I always forget to charging the battery for the watch so if it cannot last longer enough, it’s not OK for me.
disappointment, I don't know what exactly is happening, but the older models, as can be seen from the video test, are much better, at least as far as the heart rate sensor is concerned, maybe they will improve with some upgrade, I think
They're testing new tech for heart rate readings, and new tech often has inconsistencies. A software update to calibrate the new sensors may fix it, or the next GT6/GT6 Pro.
@@GabsARVlol so you’re saying that these companies are putting half ass products for full price for you to test and if you don’t like it then you just buy the new one in hopes that there’s been an improvement? What is update for T-rex 3 testing!! Eagerly waiting for T-rex 3 and your video on it's testing. Thanks
Thanks! I have the GT3 Pro, you just save me a lot of money, I was about to order the GT5 Pro.
They do now :)
Just watch the videos. They are considered best because their results align best with the reference device. He explains it in every video. He got a PhD in body measurements. He only cares about the values, not feature sets. You, on the other hand, did not test the MiBand against reference devices, do not have a relevant PhD. Therefore, you should trust your judgement too much
Thank you for such a deep review!
Hello, I have a little headache :) maybe you can help,,,, let's say I have the opportunity to buy 3 different watches from Huawei and all options are for the same money for me. What would you recommend?
1. Huawei watch 4 pro space edition
2. Huawei GT 5 pro
3. Huawei Watch Ultimate EXPEDITION

You can't buy dials for this Huawei GT 5 PRO watch because you can't add a payment card. The wallet does not work in Poland.
You can pay with Huawei points
You can link your credit card
Use the Play operator payments
Thank you for this great review video.
For a person over 40, an EKG can be very important. Therefore, my choice is the Pro version.
It would also be great if you could make a comparison video of the EKG performance of capable devices.
Hey you should really re-test the Huawei watches that have received updates, to see if they had improved the health monitoring. Because sometimes it's not about the sensors nor the body weight of the watch but rather a software update that tend to positively or negatively imapct the health monitoring.
Thanks for your incrediable test, this is really helpful.
Great review as always! I hope you'll review the Xiaomi Mi band 9 and the Apple watch 10 soon
Can you test the ECG? and please explain why that would be useful!
The battery live and the design is why I consider this watch.
I think you need to take some samples after 2-3 months to give time for some software updates
Yeah, I agree it will be better if we can have a comparison with GT 3 Pro latest update too (HarmonyOS 4)
Something is wrong, you should test again the whole huawei watches from gen3 to gt5 pro. Probable a software update will put some order. Impossible gt5 pro perform worse than previous gt3.
He uses the results from 3 years ago.
Does any of these watches accept an heart rate strap through bluetooth? Polar H10 for example...
Hi. How i can make plan for gym by myself? I tried many time but it looks like can not do it. Only import the fixed gym plan on huawei health. 😢
I was planning to Buy the GT4 this week. I am now confused. Should I buy the GT4 or go for the GT5?
I am also unsure about this
GT4 without any doubts.
GT5 of course because it comes with new hardware and sensors. But that is also the reason why the software still needs some calibration.
me too T^T
@@shanmajeed607 imagine telling him to buy watch with downgraded hardware rofl
@TheQuantifiedScientist by looking on your graphs and comparing the watches how they come from the manufacturer my conclusion is that most watches with stretchy or silicon straps are performing better compared to metal bracelet which logically would make sense. Are you able to confirm ?
Thank you for the review
considering both have the same sensors suite and software with results not confirming to each other is strange.
Is this the one and only channel doing scientific reviews on smartwatch?
Bro is on fire 🔥🔥🔥
did huawei send you a D2 as well, and if so, are you going to test the BP accuracy as well as the other stuff ?
I am also very curious if this health watch is just marketing or actually more accurate health monitoring?
Can you change straps on gt 5 pro? I mean replacing with my own 22mm straps
Which watch do you recommend for mostly sleep tracking and automatic health alert? Due to my job I cannot wear any watch during daytime except over the weekend, so I use it for sleeping. Looks like an Apple watch 8 is a very solid choice.
I dont get why the Gt5 pro is so bad compared to gt3 pro?? It s necessary some software update or new sensors are really bad?
Thanks, your Rob. I'm didn't expect this result
Always love your reviews! Can you review the Xiaomi Watch S3? Thanks!!
Thank you for your speed, dedication and amazing work. Very interesting results. I'm checking out Huawei now that Google's Wear OS is increasingly strangling the Playstore app advantage for tailoring the watches, making them less smart.
Nice! Also, do you plan to do a comprehensive review on the Withings' Scanwatch 2 soon? -- Would be greatly appreciated. :)
Please do!
Using mt GT3 for over year now still awesome
I was planning to buy the GT5 to replace my GT3 runner... But after that... I am not sure! And buying the new Google watch for twice the price... Not sure either
I got the Pro version as the material is more durable. The cheapest watch you can get with those materials.
Thanks for the video Rob! I want to replace my Huawei GT 2 and have waited for todays launch. But to be honest I m very unsure what to do. The Pro version is nice, but a surcharge of about 150.- is a little bit too much. So I might check out some other reviews and decide then. Competition is strong, especially with the Pixel Watch 3, which unfortunately has only 1 day of battery life
Can you please do some reviews on the newest Amazfit watches, especially the T Rex 3?!
Hi the xiaomi mi band 9 watch review I am waiting impatiently 😊
Great video,I’m going to get one thanks ❤️👍🏴
Love your scientific reviews. Now Amazfit T-Rex 3 please! It has the best amazfit Heart Rate as other reviewers stated.
which is better Gt5 Pro or Amazfit Trex 3 ???
Any chance or making a comparison between gt5 and gt4 for all of us who think the "upgrade"?
Thanks for the review.
Hope you review the gt3 pro again in 2024.
I've been wanting to buy that, and it's only 1 available in the store. But i dunno if it's still worth it in 2024
We are waiting for MI BAND 9
Is there a list of smartwatches that most accurately measure calorie consumption and sleep?
Cant decide shuld i save some money and go with GT4 or get the GT5. ~160$ vs 225$ in my region. (Using GW4 44mm currently)
I wonder what the manufacturing tolerance would be if two identical models were compared. I wouldn't be surprised if the difference was similar to "Pro" and "NonPro"
Does GT5 Pro has Badminton among supported sports?
What about the material differences between GT5 and GT5 PRO Steel vs Titan? And sapphire glass?
I have to say I always use Huawei watch because the Huawei gets the basic function and give you really long time using battery. I always forget to charging the battery for the watch so if it cannot last longer enough, it’s not OK for me.
Samsung Watch 7 or Huawei Watch GT 5? Which one would you recommend?
I hate Samsung, I'd go in a Huawei.
@@DanielBelini Can you please explain why?
i saw you always use polarH10 as comparison..how do you know that polar h10 is more accurate than the others?
He has an old video. A study on this device states that its accuracy is 99.6 percent. Search for it and watch it.
Is it compatible with chest strap?
I’m interested in underwater swimming tests, but I can’t seem to find any information. Could you provide a review?
disappointment, I don't know what exactly is happening, but the older models, as can be seen from the video test, are much better, at least as far as the heart rate sensor is concerned, maybe they will improve with some upgrade, I think
They're testing new tech for heart rate readings, and new tech often has inconsistencies. A software update to calibrate the new sensors may fix it, or the next GT6/GT6 Pro.
Might be software bugs, he's reviewing before it was even launched, might be a not polished software version
@@GabsARV what I find concerning is how companies are willing to sell a clearly "work in progress" product, so it's on you their prospective R&D costs
@@GabsARVlol so you’re saying that these companies are putting half ass products for full price for you to test and if you don’t like it then you just buy the new one in hopes that there’s been an improvement? Thank you for the review, just cancelled mine! I was going for the GT5 Pro...
i was looking for a review for Huawei Ultimate and is the only one you haven't review yet is any particular reason (expect from the cost ?) is it close or better than the GT series ?
do you know how to turn ON and OFF the GPS on the GT5/pro? im used to turn it off on my galaxy if im not needing location services..well just to conserve battery
I say it will take a while after release to calibrate the software.
how the pixel watch 3 is positioned respect to this new huawey in the running ranking? I don't find the pixel 3 watch there. thanks
