Useful tip, get a waste pipe cut it to 300mm or 400mm and use it as rollers. You’ll be surprised how strong they are, moved a 6m steel that weighed 237kg around on them. Worked a treat 😂
I half inched a scaffold cross member years ago,cut it in half and keep it in my van it makes moving steels a lot easier by rolling it on them. You would still have had to graft it in to the house etc but you wouldn't have been knackered by the time you got it round the back, lifting lumps like that definitely takes it's toll later on in life.
If you do this regularly is build a bogey or two. Caster wheels, big to enough to cope with some rough ground 100-150mm. Put the wheel in a cross make sure two on one axis are 30- 40ish mm higher than the other. The bogey will run on three and can spin on it's self. The offset height help to be able the step up small steps. Longer items such steels are actually easier to move than smaller items. Moved stuff 250kg +with just two people. A couple of bars help as well. Scaffolding poles even better in a straight line for heavy stuff but requires better surface
It only took three of us last November to move three of them we was doing an extension and we just carried it all the way through I I love your channel though
That's just a baby. In my place my son and i installed 5 usbs altogether 3 x 3metres long 1x 6 m and 1 x7.2m that's some lump of metal and had at one end to lift it by hand to position it centrally on a wall. The long one we had to get the crane driver to put the end through the doorway so as we could get short scaffold poles under one end and allow it to roll into the building, having to push the last 2 metres by hand, to get it positioned beneath its bearing points which were in some cases 6x6 timber posts.
Thats how we used to move them until I bought a heavy duty wheeled dolly and made up a couple of square wooden frames with heavy duty casters on. Easy now.
Great stuff Stu. Having installed many a steel (RSJ) dollies, trolleys, pulleys, rollers, scaffold tubes, broom handles etc, the steel install on the jobs is literally a few hours of work , there's no way I'm going to travel about with dollies and all the rest of the lifting aids available , at the end of the day you still need a gang of men to get it done, at some stage of the job you need teamwork and muscle so why not use it start to to end of the task lol
Baby steel this is me and my mate did masive by our selfs one 300mm wide and 300deep 5 meter long x2 and one 600ml smaller same size got it off lorry and on the troley with out any crane on to the geeny and on steel post masive extension in bishop strotford !
@@Stucrompton1 a brush pole cut into pieces would have helped roll it a bit, but I know it’s easy to say all this after the job is done and you have to work with what you have. I could feel the strain on my lower back when yous where moving it 😩
Building control with us wouldn’t allow that size steel sitting on just a concrete block, they would want us to put a reinforced pad stone in and cut the plaster board out of the ceiling to get directly on to the joists to stop compression ,must be different up north🤔
@@Stucrompton1 sorry stu it looked like a block to me then, they make us put in pad stones with at least 225mm bearing each side of steel. Your work is top of the range too🤟
Several short bits of scaff tube and roll it in , minimise the lifting. Proper planning prevents piss poor performance. Got it in in the the end though eh lol .
That was painful watching no doubt. Some scaffold tube rollers or a sammy would have made that much easier as would clearing up the yard a bit. Still at least you got it in. How many hours did it take from path to final position ??
WTF? It is always funny until you get 10 years older and wonder why you have several bad discs in your back? Hopefully you already know this was a really stupid way to lift a massive object...take it from a 51yo guy who thought the same as you and now has 2 blown discs in the lumbar from lifting shit like that
3-4 offcuts of scaffold tubes will save a lot of energy! Work smart, not hard!
But not as fun.
I’ve seen some guy use a sack truck for beams. Not sure it could take this but maybe 🤔
Or 4 inch pipe
I’ve just done this on a 6m steel 203x203 60uc with a plate welded on the top. Was a monster
Standard! Its amazing how many people try carrying it 🤦🏼♂️😂

Next time just go 1, 2, lift. It would have saved 38 seconds of my life watching you lot say 3. :)
Enjoyed the vid though !!!!!
Ancient Egyptians watching these guys laughing their asses off.
Another way to go is to get the steel in and proped up, then build your padstones in. Gives much more room.
My favourite way...
Jang didn’t look like he was giving 100% at the back of the steel 😋
I hope your joking
Jung a clever lad that’s why
How could he when he had 5 arses in his face 🤣🤣🤣
I don't blame him👍
My back hurts just looking at it. Nice job, young lads.
Few blocks of timber, some scaffold tubes and long spade = one man job. 👍
Chuckle brothers springs to mind.
Should always have 2 moving dolly’s in van . 👍 great content stu and gang
Making it up as you go.
That motion sensor isnt going to be seeing much anymore
We hire a 'v trolley' only 20 quid a day and just wheel the bugger round, stuff all that lifting lol
Reminds of Benny Hill Stu... Needs the Benny Hill Theme Song
Broom handles ! My preference method of transport for a steel .
*Have you guys heard of WHEELS ?*
i think they where invented a few thousand years ago? lol
Sometimes its harder getting them genie lifts round and into the building, than the beam.
*treads on brick which falls off, then slyly slips it back in place*
Them dolly's are a life saver. Good job lads.
I hurt my back just watching you guys.
i like heavy work and when I watch your videos I always get good ideas
Moving steels is the most nerve wracking part of any project!!! 😅😅😅
No taking the props out is !
make yourself a couple of dollys with strong wheels on, it'll make moving them a doddle👍
Even the Egyptians new about the wheel
Problem solving on the hoof. Love it.

great job lads
110mm plastic sewer pipe. 3 short pieces. I moved a 350kg 200x200mm 5m steel on my own from the front to the back of my house last week
Can’t beat a bit of banter.
Sniffing the bum gravy, total madness.
aww its only a baby!
wouldn't it of been easier coming through the front door?
no, beacuse of steps and having to swing over drive that drops down.

Good team all on it together good trust and good communication. And most important know one died

Also, get the top plate supplied loose, in a couple of lengths and bolt it on after the steel is in. 250 x 10 plate is nearly 20kg a metre.
how not to install a steel , laural and hardy would have laughed at that fiasco
Yeah. Thanks for watching.
Why lift it when you can roll it lads!
2/3 short piece of a scaffold tube would do the job perfectly as well :)
what a mission, i hope it was paid accordingly
Try a sack truck laid flat next time lads, save yer backs and done in a fraction of time
Good work stu 👍🏻
Cheers Liam. Hope you’re well mate

Have you not heard of a sack barrow either end ???
Me back’s aching watching this.
That’s how the Egyptians did it..... oh .... no...... wait a minute....

Why don’t you use next time pieces of drainage pipe under the beam 👌😊it’s so much easier
We said this but didn’t have none.

Good job guys...
Cheers Stu'
jobs a gudun .
Really useful for me to see that. Thank you.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Couple of beer barrels often rolled 24ft 10x10 inch girders on them
Steel on steel boys
Sometimes when driving along and the bridge feels like it is bouncing a lot you wonder where the steel supports went ..!!??
the massive beam section appears to be UC Denomination, what I section it is? is UCK 203x203x46 or UC 254x254x73?
Is that an motion sensor that is left armed at 10:16? :D
Reminds when we built our house, we had 4 RSJ each weighing 2.2 tons.
We used a crane, much easier.. Not cheap tho.. Great video.. 👌👍
I use a short piece of scaffold pole and they roll like a dream
Easier to carry if you cut it in half 👍🏼😉
Could have rolled that all the way to the back garden with small metal dowells
Big job on big job on
Couple of bits of scaff bar make it roll easy
0:50.... 4 planks but no wheels 🛹
To me to you to me to you
nice vid, nee sub here, I like to watch buildability stuff
Some of those 😍
Big one that lads. You would think these days they would be strong and light. But no they keep makeing them bigger and heavier 😂😂😂💪💪👍👍
Boys you made that look heavy, not enough pies.
FYI Stu I can barely understand you and your boys when you talk in a group. Amazing how english and american language has become so different!
To be fair he is from Wigan so hard to understand at best of times and I only live up the road from him in Preston. Pie eaters!
5:27
😂
ahahah that guy face
Like the chuckle brothers🤣
Like max an paddy’s day on build
Don’t know where we’re going
I would pretend to lift to make it heavyer for the others
Ils sont forts les Anglais il existe des chariots ou plateaux à roulettes.!!!
Lol
Where are you based…you sound local . I need a quote
Well nobody split their pants 🤣 today
Super, super, superrrrrrrrrrrrr,, super

Get a old broom handle cut in to 3 & roll it..
4 bits of 4 inch drainage pipe would have made it a doddle to shift.

We usually get a dolly a genie lifter and then 3 of us use our back muscle lol
How many meters was that @stu?
Why didn’t you use rollers ( cut up piping) Would have been a lot easier and quicker?
Get yourself a couple of pipes and roll the beast to the job 😳😂
I wonder what the inspector would say 🤔
Broom handles cut down.
Stu would say: Lovely jobly and thats a truth. Nice job boys. Respect and godspeed 👍 👍 👍.
Wheels ...look into them
Круглое носим, квадратное катаем. Положили бы три куска трубы и катали бы как по роликам.
why are you using such a massive piece of steel on this, seems very oversized for that span
Not sure whats going on here, surely that plasterboard should be gone and that steel higher tight up against the joists or is that to come.
Ceiling is being lowered.

A skateboard from a kid down the street would have saved you a load of hassle
Needed K.C there in charge would have gone in quicker lol
Surprised you have no moving skates, can even hire them for a half/whole day, saves the back..
