      Ahhh, that is really awesome to hear Anthony 😀 thank you man, I hope it helps you if decide to take on the work yourself. If you do and get stuck you can always fire me a message on socials and I’l try help out the best I can.
      I would strongly advise though, strong boys are not very suitable if your opening is going to be any wider than this. I’d go for a needle option. Same preparations to a strong boy but the needle goes through instead and sits onto acrows on both sides of the wall 👍
      Really appreciate the feedback mate, thank you 👊❤️

    Great vid mate - do you mortar the steel to the pads?

  • @YouriDeKlusser
    @YouriDeKlusser 15 днів тому

    The use of these slates makes it possible to to away the strong boys quicker right? It doesn't add anything structural once the mortar has gone off?

      @CraigToddBrickwork  Рік тому

      I could try to get one together on our next job like this 🙂 in short though, you’d speak with your local council to let them know your intentions. They may want steel work calculations drawn up by an structural engineer and also oversee the project inspecting the work once the padstone’s are in place pre plastering.
      Hope that helps 🙂

    Great job, sorry if I missed it in the video but why did you put the strongboys two courses above the steel? Couldn't you have put them directly above the steel to save bricking up the gap?

    • @CraigToddBrickwork
      @CraigToddBrickwork  2 місяці тому +1

      Good question, i didn’t cover that. Its because we dont want the strong boys in the way when lifting the steel into place 🙂 I was always taught it’s best practice this way 🙂

    • @CraigToddBrickwork
      @CraigToddBrickwork  2 місяці тому +1

      We dont do these anymore & this was quite a while ago so the price would be outdated.
      A good guide is to expect to pay good quality competent trades £700 per day for two lads, plus materials on top.

      Concretes ok over windows and doorways steel is better for traffic above

    As the bricks are going straight to a skip, why bother with removing the plaster?
    It caused a lot of dust and health risks in case it had any asbestos contents!

    • @CraigToddBrickwork
      @CraigToddBrickwork  8 місяців тому +1

      Good question mate, its because we use a grab wagon to remove the hardcore & they cant take plaster

    • @soundslight7754
      @soundslight7754 8 місяців тому +1

      @@CraigToddBrickwork Thanks Craig for this answer, it makes more sense now. Grab wagon was probably a choice: maybe lack of space, permitting, cost/labour or access was the reason you made that choice? Either way best of luck and take care of yourself also your team 👍

    • @CraigToddBrickwork
      @CraigToddBrickwork  8 місяців тому

      Thats it mate, space for a skip with out it getting filled by residents and also price is better for a grab + plus other hardcore from other work which can be in the grab too
