thanks for this video. I love how you present things and how you commit to it. I've been following you for a long time and I've learned a lot from you. I love that you are critical and not superficial, or worse, bribed. god bless you!
I've been very tempted to pick this one up. I was waiting for Black Friday to get here to get it at the cheapest price possible. You're review is going to come at the perfect time! Can't wait to see it! Thanks Victor! 🎣
Agree with your first impressions. I have the 500 and I will fish it for the first time in the morning. I noticed it has a weird resistance to it compared to my previous generation 2000. I thought it was the size difference but it’s comforting to know it’s not just me
Fine initial look, don’t mind the color at all. Hopefully you’ll enjoy putting some time on it and may loosen up. Will be looking forward to your review.
Been watching your videos for a long time, all the way from Australia. Love this one though. I am slowly converting from daiwa to Shimano after converting from Shimano to daiwa initally. I havent been able to take the plunge on a vanford, something about the lightness i just didnt like. For me the vanquish is a weapon and i would love one. I have a couple of stellas and twinpowers and i generally got them as they must be the best, but i think nowa days the mid range stuff is amazing. I think if i had my time again i would probably have a vanford and the standard stradics, they are nice. Keep up the good work, love it mate
I believe the handle knobs are the same that were introduced in -22 Aldebaran Bfs. I liked the previous design, but this updated one is better and I think the best version of this type of design of any brand right now.
interesting... i believe that because i know they are NOT gona make a new knob just for the vanford. Must have borrowed from somewhere. Small change, but i definitely prefer this for ultralight..
I like the esthetics. The spool and the handle are slightly different design as well as some of the other things you mentioned. I think it looks sleeker. Also, my Vanford had a lot of resistance out of the box. After the bearing upgrade, re-oil and greasing, and two months of use, it's starting to loosen up a bit. Still really smooth. Looks like I've got a reel to buy this Christmas! Now to find another Bellezza or something comparable. (Oh wait. There may not be anything comparable in that price point)
I’ll be waiting for the video of you commenting about the drag. Personally, i feel it’s terrible. That’s the only part i need to replace. Otherwise, it’s perfect reel.
Ι have just received my new Vanford c2000SHG. I also have the 2020 version. I ordered it from PLAT japan and out of the box it makes noise I think on a bearing. I will try to put some drops on of low viscosity oil on some spots without opening the reel and I hope it goes well. But I am a bit disappointed that I have to open the reel to make it be good with proper oil and grease.
i watched videos from japan, and they complained about some noise.. This is why i didn't complain when my reel had some resistance - at least it was quiet.
I bought one 2000S and same feeling of too much grease in it. I also bought a 2500S and this one is totally another world, very very smooth. These differences are imo disappointing. You never know what you get at the end of the day. I hope grease will disappear with use as you said in your video.
thats how i feel. U know, u bought two Twinpowers in size 4000 for carp fishing.. big reels, wrong comparison, i know this ... but my gosh, the handle turns easier than this vanford
I thought same thing when I first saw video comparison with stradic fm, seemed to me like they were trying to down play stradic in favor of vanford, yet it's like comparing finest to power
Great video Victor! Would be funny if Shimano did compare the new vanford FA to the past vanford because it'll be harder to make profit. But again, I already bought the vanford FA 3000xg for bass fishing😂. I do like the color and slimmer body better. Actually looks like a $200 reel this time. Performance wise, it probably won't make a different until you use the drag to fight an OLD BOOT underwater 😂 I'm pretty sure the new vanford FA gears will out last the older vanford when you set both drag correctly. Can't wait for your on the water fishing!
yeah, it will probably have an improvement if u drag an old boot underwater - funny u bring this up because i actually agree with it.. new gears have bigger teeth..
Hi, I just recently bought an apia Grandage vice S74Ml and I’m wondering if I could use the 24 vanford 3000 for saltwater, will I have a lot of problems? Will the line roller get destroyed? Do you think that 4-5 bluefish and leer fish will destroy the reel? Will the reel hold on saltwater? I will use it for wading and I clean my tackle with freshwater everytime I go fishing thank you man I have been following you since the presso review. I need a very high gear spining reel that also it’s light and can hold great line capacity and daiwa does not offer me that, I have exist but there is no Airity Luvias or exist that meet my requirements
if you are setting hooks and yanking fish, i would get a metal frame reel. If you fish softly and keep your reels clean, then it will be fine. It is a gentle reel and will deteriorate fast if you overload it. Not just the salt..
I was hoping the slow oscilation was going to trickle down to the Vanford but im suspecting they are saving that for the Complex Xr. So im very currious if thats going to happen
I think they compare it to stradic because of the same price and some same parts they share like gears etc. This comparison is senseless for the people who know these reels, it’s more for newbies just to understand the difference between two reels I think. But in substance you are correct these reels belong to different families, stradic is in shimano coresolid family reels, and vanford is in magnumlite family reels. For sure Twin Power should be compared to Stradic and Vanquish compared to Vanford if they want. Between I did not see any review of Twin Power on your channel, that’s my favorite reel, it’s so smooth, love it. I will buy this exact Vanford too for ultralight fishing, was waiting for your review on 2000 size, still looks better then the old one to me.
Hey, do you believe in the concept or have you noticed any difference when some say that you should put mark on the gears with sharpie or something when you open the reel so you can get the gears back together in same order (teeths) when they got out so you dont lose factory smoothness? thanks
The only way for teeth to hit the same spot every time is if the reel has a 5:0 or 6:0 gear ratio. Then the pinion will make a perfect number of revolutions over one turn of the main gear. But if the Gear ratio is anything else, that means that the starting position for the second run over the main gear will be different, and entire second travel over the main gear will be different. Even if u forget about that, if there is a problem with the gears, you would want to change position for better wear. Not keep them the same. The whole thing is rubbish from every angle u can think of
I've seen a few asking about your opinion between the 23 Cardiff XR and the 24 Vanford. I get that you think they're pretty much equal. This will be my first reel around the $200 price point. Having never used the prior Vanford, I won't feel like I'm missing have changing upgrades. Think the Cardiff is worth the few extra $, or just go Vanford and it will still be better than anything I've used before? Thanks in advance!
if they are the same price i would get the new vanford, if nothing else, because it is a newer reel and will be easier to sell. But where i shop, the CardiffXR is cheaper.. and if its cheaper, i would go cardiff
I have to disagree with your comments on the comparison between Stradic and Vanford. Absolutely the two reels to compare IMO. Recall, target audience is bass fishermen, at least on average. You have two reels in roughly the same price point with two very different design characteristics with regards to rotor weight and inertia. Vanford starts and stops on a dime and Stradic will want to keep going on it's own (forget startup inertia for a moment). Imagine for a second that you are a bass fisherman, say you are dragging or hopping a 7 gram jighead with a small finesse plastic, or inching a dropshot, or just picking up slack while working a jerkbait, which reel do you choose? Now say you are throwing a 14 gram crankbait all day and your retrieve is continuous, which reel do you choose? I can't think of a better comparison than these two for that audience. It's magnumlite vs not magnumlite and it's trying to help you determine which is right for you, not telling you which is better. Parallel lineups, you now have a magnumlite Nasci as well. My knowledge on spinning reels is a fraction of a drop in a VEEEEERY large bucket compared to yours, and I am not challenging you. But it makes sense to me, and I say this with deepest respect. Sure, there are people who are more concerned with what incremental improvements have been made between versions of the same reel, and there will be a certain segment of people who will understand magnumlite to be for them, and will want to know what they get when moving between Miravel, Vanford, Vanquish. But for many people the question will be: Nasci or Miravel? Vanford or Stradic? Again, with all the respect in the world!
Bro, he is criticizing the Shimano promo video comparing the new vanford with stradic. And just for your information, the stradic on his desk is not ordinary stradic, it is a Stradic Ci4+, which is a predecessor of vanford, same Ci4+ material on frame and rotor.
there is some confusion between being able to TOLERATE a flaw, and the flaw being GOOD for some application. The heavy rotor is good for NOTHING, but strength. Just put this in your head and remember it. There is no application, no swimbait, no crankbait, no nothing, where the heavy rotor will be better! The only things its better is if you are trying to stop a carp from running in the woods and you have to stop that fish or lose your rig. People put their hand on the spool, but that doesn't alleviate the pressure on the line roller and rotor.
Hello Mr. Viktor, First of all, I want to say that I have been following your channel for some time and have learned a lot from you. I have great respect for you, and thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I have a question about the new Vanford reel. I ordered the 2500 version, but I accidentally misread the specifications compared to the shallow 2500S version. The 2500 version has a 9kg drag, which I don’t really like. Why does the 2500 have a much higher max drag compared to the 2500S, which has 4kg? I’m not going to use the reel for anything that would require such a high drag. The shallow spool still has sufficient capacity for me. Will I be able to set the drag low enough so that the reel still functions properly on the 2500 version that has 9kg max drag? To be honest, I need a drag of less than 0.5kg. Should I sell this 2500 size vanfrord upon recieving it and buy 2500S or keep it without beeing worried about max drag specs? Thank you very much for your response. Best regards from Croatia! Zvonimir
yes, i never use more than 0.5KG drag even when i fight carp. Just open the drag. If it has only one felt in it, don't worry about it. If it has 3 felts.. it will be a lot of friction.. but i still believe that when u open the knob enough, u will be just fine. If ur reel is smooth and quiet, keep it
What pisses me off is why isn’t the reel already perfect?? I can’t believe we need to open and tune a brand new expensive reel to make it feel good.. it’s pathetic..😡 Great video as usual 👍🏻
It pisses me off. Even the japanese have stopped putting 100% effort in. Saltigas, Twinpowers, Certates, Airitys, Vanquish list goes on. I've bought and tried so many, and so many out of the box either have unacceptable handle play, unacceptable tolerances and some are even geary. Made in japan? Is it really that good? I don't think so. Daiwa and Shimano DO BETTER.
Shimano Malaysia are usually good at assembling their mid end reels. This applied to their mid end finesse reels like Stradic FL and Vanford 20. They felt excellent out of the box (most). The new Stradic FM? what a piece of crap. Hopefully the 24 Vanford gets some good batches. But really, the quality has dropped significantly and it's dissapointing.
I’ll most likely be getting a Vanquish, Airity or Vanford for Perch fishing in Europe, I hate having any grinding feeling/noise, which would you recommend?
Right. I want to know how the new model vanford compare to the old model vanford. It’s seems logical enough. Why anyone would compare it to a tow truck is beyond me.. I’ll be watching to see the gears and the difference. I believe they are the same as the FM series. But I’m older and forget shit easy now 😂
i ordered one c2000shg from japan. as soon as i ordered it, ive been slammed with bad/negative things about vanford FA. idk if i make a wrong mistake ordering one for my UL setup. from my own reading, i know stradic and vanford in different category as vanford in mgl category thats why i considered it, but the riview say negative thing such as bad quality, making a lot of noise and more got me thinking if i make mistake.
Love your reviews every shimano stradic/vanford seems differnt when new even when same model. I have 2020 vanford 4000 not used and handle seems to have a lot of play, is this a problem. vanford 2500 not s much play. Anybody find a lot of play with handles on Vanford???
Victor, I have an unrelated question (but you are the reason I have the question in the first place, so you can't blame me). Is there a nylon line, similar to the Varivas VLS Super trout advance twitch master, but stronger.. much stronger, but with that softness and suppleness? Looking for 12-16lbs approximately. Sorry (not sorry). Thank you (I do mean this, sincerely). Can't you enable channel memberships and/or super thanks, so I could thank you with money? That would be totally amazing. I started following you when you had about 7-8K subscribers.. and look at you now! Double! Soon you won't have the time to answer my silly comments.
all Varivas nylons are extremely soft. I don't fish with such thick lines so i haven't looked at them. I actually bought some 16 lb Sunline Machine Gun for carp fishing, but its really stiff, i myself regret getting it. But i wanted brown color. One day i will have some kind of membership, but i have to figure what i can offer.
@ Thanks! I do use the 8lbs machine gun cast, so I know about that one. It’s not too bad at 8lbs, I might order some 4lbs too, but based on your description I won’t get the 12. I’ll get the Bass nylon from Varivas, see how that goes. With regard to channel memberships, I think people mostly create custom emojis and give members early access to videos. It’s just for a bit of fun, really. But it would be mostly about YOU and letting people support the channel, for a small monthly fee. I would certainly be up for that, expecting nothing in return, but just helping to grow the channel. I would certainly recommend and encourage you to enable some form of monetisation through memberships and “super thanks”, while you’re pondering on other things/benefits for members.. For me though, just being able to gain nuggets of knowledge from you is beneficial enough.
(Vanford update) So I put some oil on the side bearings of the main body and on the bearing in the rotor nut. Noise was reduced but the main tac tac noise from rotor rubbing and gears gap when I pushed hard the handle and rotate remains. It's the same noise that my 2020 Vanford did out of the box like the new one. This problem only can be reduced with a shim but never be fixed and that's because the factory in Malaysia are not on the spot in their manufacturing of the body of the reel and there are gaps of mm. Pretty disappointed for a second time next time I will go straight for a made in Japan reel probably a Vanquish.
@@ifishcatfish I spoke with a japanese friend that does extreme analisis on yourube on diferernt reels. his told me this. "Hello. This is likely due to the unique "gear noise" that will occur after 2022. The tooth surface of the gear is wide and the break-in is insufficient. You have to open the contents to make adjustments. Gear clearance adjustment is required. Adjust by 0.01mm. However, it is currently difficult as there are no parts available. You just have to use it and get used to it. There are many people in Japan with the same symptoms. It may be necessary to apply high viscosity grease or modify the washer. In Japan, most people give up and continue using it as is. I'm sorry for answering like this. thank you." he means the main gear that looks like an umprella the ajustment need to be done on the upper side with washers.
@@piergiorgioricci6923 it doesnt matter how much u spend - all spinning reels have free play in the handle. Its not about quality, the free play has to be there, or the reel will feel like shit
There is a lot of free play in the handle knob of my 2020 Vanford 4000 but no free play in my Stradic 4000 fm handle knob, its perfect (the stradic is so beutiful). Why couldnt they get the Vanford right.
you will think i am cynical, but, honestly, if you like it more, for whatever reason, then it was the right decision to buy it. In that video and in this, i never said which reel is better, i just said how they feel and what are their strengths, so people can make their decision
I think that their comparison to Stradic is not for people like you - I believe it wasn't intentional misleading action of Shimano. The objective was just to demonstrate some general differences between those two so that consumer can choose the one better suiting his way of fishing. But there is some truth on what are you saying ..if they really want to show progress they need to compare it to reels of the same kind .. but from marketing point of view they are simply not forced to do so as 1) usual customer doesn't care that much 2) the new generation will substitute the old one anyway so who cares - if you want better light reel buy vanquish...
Wasted four years they want more capital gain, but don’t want to do extra work plus they added an old body that even looks heavier but the body is ugly compared to last vanford and then to make it less cosmetically better the nerve the nerve

The 2020 Vanford, in my opinion is the overall best reel Shimano has made for price per performance. Also I absolutely loved how it looked.

I have one and I agree was very unimpressed. But the new 2024 twin power c2000s is amazing. They did a great job with that one.
i have the 4000 size and it looks and feels like stella.. : )

@marcelfishing i am not very impressed either. Tiny changes, no game changer. 4 years ago the Vanford was a game changer, but not now.

If ur reel is smooth and quiet, keep it
Any on the water reviews? My Vanford is pretty noisy reeling in braid under load but with no load or a free spinning spool it’s very quiet
going fishin tomorrow. Don't jinx it
Thanks for sharing❤
Idk but interest to see complexf4xr the color, spool, handle its lookin perfect for light game.
u mean the next one, that they should release after the Vanford?
What pisses me off is why isn’t the reel already perfect?? I can’t believe we need to open and tune a brand new expensive reel to make it feel good.. it’s pathetic..😡
Great video as usual 👍🏻
i know.. should be perfect already : )
I’ll most likely be getting a Vanquish, Airity or Vanford for Perch fishing in Europe, I hate having any grinding feeling/noise, which would you recommend?
if thats most important for u, maybe airity
Right. I want to know how the new model vanford compare to the old model vanford. It’s seems logical enough. Why anyone would compare it to a tow truck is beyond me.. I’ll be watching to see the gears and the difference. I believe they are the same as the FM series. But I’m older and forget shit easy now 😂
me too, me too..
i ordered one c2000shg from japan. as soon as i ordered it, ive been slammed with bad/negative things about vanford FA. idk if i make a wrong mistake ordering one for my UL setup.
from my own reading, i know stradic and vanford in different category as vanford in mgl category thats why i considered it, but the riview say negative thing such as bad quality, making a lot of noise and more got me thinking if i make mistake.
you mistake was not that u ordered the new Vanford, but that you got the high gear ratio model. That model is sh1t. Stay away from high gear ratio
Hello is the drag washer from the vanford 2020 2000s size the same as the ultegra 2021 2000s size drag washer. I would love an answer pleaseee❤
No
Love your reviews every shimano stradic/vanford seems differnt when new even when same model. I have 2020 vanford 4000 not used and handle seems to have a lot of play, is this a problem. vanford 2500 not s much play. Anybody find a lot of play with handles on Vanford???
i have never seen vanford with too much handle play. There is some, but thats normal and even necessary
i got mine with buzzing gears, when reeling and pressing knob against the reel the sound almost disappears, so i guess it's missing some shims..
hmm.. did u buy it somewhere 'at a discount'
@@ifishcatfish nah, reputable shop, will send it back just the inconvenience.
what is the difference between the presso air ags 510ul and 510ul e
i only saw one model.. not sure where u r looking at. Link me to that e
The reason for Shimano not comparing the old vs. the new Vanford is probably because there are no noticeable differences in praxis…
there is no noticeable improvement in anything
(Vanford update)
So I put some oil on the side bearings of the main body and on the bearing in the rotor nut.
Pretty disappointed for a second time next time I will go straight for a made in Japan reel probably a Vanquish.
who did u buy it from?
@ifishcatfish plat japan
@@LightGameFishing well.. he's legit.. just bad luck i guess
I'm sorry for answering like this. thank you."
he means the main gear that looks like an umprella the ajustment need to be done on the upper side with washers.
The only thing i don't like about vanford is the play of the handle. it's still there in the new vanford?
its in the stella. Why do u expect no free play in vanford?
@ifishcatfish because it's less in my stradic FL. I wish a magnun light reel with less play but i don't want to spend 400 €
@@ifishcatfish I'm not talking about the play of the knob but the play in the point where the handle screws into the body of the reel
As for looks, the old Vanford is better, but as for performance, I don't know, I've never tried the new Vanford
honestly... don't know in a blind test how many people can pick the reels apart. Even with new gears somehow feel just the same
yes my vanford2024 not smooth.. 2020 ultegra is batter feel like butter..
I think stradic fm c2000s is better
and what are u gona do about it? Are u gona buy it?
@ifishcatfish i allready bought it instead of vanford...i like it more 😁
you will think i am cynical, but, honestly, if you like it more, for whatever reason, then it was the right decision to buy it.
But there is some truth on what are you saying ..if they really want to show progress they need to compare it to reels of the same kind .. but from marketing point of view they are simply not forced to do so as 1) usual customer doesn't care that much 2) the new generation will substitute the old one anyway so who cares - if you want better light reel buy vanquish...
well articulated
I thought my old ones are better
at least of out of the box - mine are better too
Chome butt trend needs to go away, the new butt looks way better!
the butt is very important for the right performance

DANNIOOOO
Wasted four years they want more capital gain, but don’t want to do extra work plus they added an old body that even looks heavier but the body is ugly compared to last vanford and then to make it less cosmetically better the nerve the nerve
its like trying to manipulate kids. Its a little insulting to your intelligence, if you think about it..
