This video was simple and straightforward. I watched it to help roof my mini barn. Thanks for putting this out there.
I'm so glad it helped! Thanks for watching
Very easy to understand. Great Teacher. Theirs a little more to it that can be picked up from another video. But this is an important part.
Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it
I think it would be easier if instructions just say , 1st course full 36inch shingle , 2nd - 291/2 " 3rd -23" , 4th-161/2", 5th-10"
I fully agree!
Cut 8" on first one, leaving 32" cut off. Cut another shingle to 16:, leaving a 24" cut off. Now you have a 8, 16, 24, and a 32 for your starters. two cuts, 4 starters plus a full one
Great advice!
Awesome video you make it so easy, I found your video the best one to follow thanks alot.
Sure thing, thanks for the kind words

What would be the differnce if you just cut 6.5" of every other row? Lets say start with a full shingle on the bottom and go all the way across. The next row cut 6.5" off the full shingle the starts that row then use full shingles all the way across for the rest of the 2nd row. Third row start with full shingle, ect.?
It would look fine but your seams would line up every other row , which is not advisable for rain and snow
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you , I appreciate the positive feedback
How can I start this layout from a hip line starting point? Hopefully that makes sense
Yep, it makes sense, I usually start from the valley and go towards the hip. If you want to go from the hip and go, I would start with two full shingles with the bottom corner of the shingle on the hip and the use the layout on the second full shingle and stair step it back. I hope it makes sense, if it doesn’t , let me know and I can possibly make a video on this
@@mr.kongable yes please make a video . I watched many videos and couldn’t find any that start from a hip .
My roof doesn’t have a valley . I think it’s called a ranch style roof . Do you have any email or a way I can send you a picture ?
6 1/2 + 6 1/2 what! 13. I was told 6 off each cut so 6, 12, 18, 24
You can sure do that. The 6 1/2 is what the manufacturer recommends
HDX is 6 5 6 so 6 trimmed 11 trimmed 17 trimmed off each starter
I did not learn very much, if anything… But thank you for the effort
No worries!
Are you in CALIFORNIA?
@@psuedonymalias nope, I’m in Iowa
@@mr.kongable Here in California we cut 6 1/2 inches. Guess that's what its supposed to be here.
@@psuedonymalias interesting, thanks for sharing
