The most beautiful F1 car ever!!! Piquet - legend. Gordon Murray - legend. Best team ever in F1. Best times in F1 buy a longshot!!!!!
Paul Rosche at BMW - one of the greatest engine designers ever. This BMW M12/M13 4 cylinder turbo and the S70/2 V-12 in the McLaren F1 road/sports car that won LeMans at the first try. Two of the most amazing racing engines ever built.
Exactly what this channel needed to thrive. Great series and very interesting video!
"Gentleman a short view back to the pahst!" Grown on me so hard recently xD
...I objectively state: if the French car manufacturer had proof of such tampering, wouldn't they have taken the German competitor to court? So, at the time the French did nothing to address this, so there were endless allegations and that's the end of the allegations! Nelson Piquet + Gordon Murray + Paul Roche are underestimated by F1, they are the three inventors of modern F1! Tire warming (Nelson discovered this himself in F3 and informed Gordon when he invented refueling at pitstops); brake and differential control from inside the car during races (Nelson again in F3); nobody talks about it, but in 1982 Nelson did 42,000 km of racing and testing (7,000 of races, 35,000 of tests between tires and reliability of parts and engines! (by far the driver who tested a car the most in the history of the top category of motorsport!). A little-known fact is that on the Thursday before the Monza GP in 1983, Paul Roche arrived at the Brabham pits with a new turbocharged, it had a two-stage drive. He spoke to Nelson Piquet + Gordon Murray + Bernie Eccleston + Charlie Whiting and they all said “we have nothing to lose if this new part doesn’t work, put it in the car” and after 4 laps Nelson returned to the pits and said to The guys "won the championship"! And won in Monza + European GP (the first to win this GP!) and Prost started having terrible performances! (in Zaandvort in the Dutch GP Prost threw the car at Nelson (nobody talks about this!) Nelson Piquet is one of the most inventive + hard to beat + intelligent + best overtaking to get the slipstream and pass the opponent (this mentioned by Lauda + Prost + Senna + Rosberg + Arnoux + Mansel) anyway, one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time is the three-time F1 World Champion
The editor needs a raise
Piquet, Legend
Piquet my all time hero
What most people never really think of is that the rocket fuel used made a much louder bang. Back in the day these cars were almost unbearable on the old ears and in some cases (depending on direction) on the chest due to exciting the air waves. When you listen to 80s cars driven hard in historic races (and I have been to many since 1988) they never get to the loudness they did bitd, I remember strongly.
I enjoyed this video.
Thank you.
Keep them interesting and short and I will keep watching them.

This is one of those examples of when everything just comes together at the right time.
Wasn't that BMW engine based on the engine block from the road car?
According to Gordon Murray himself, they actually were the regular bmw series production engine blocks that were left out in the rain for a year to harden them haha
They weren't just the regular production ones, they were production ones removed from (likely) wrecked/junked cars in private ownership before they were left out in the rain and peed on by the staff who were building them into race motors.
Tbf tho, Renault also shat the bed HARD!
Love this stuff
Renault even protested the fuel in 1983 used by Brabham . they tested it , and it was within the limits at the time . Just to note, in contrast with later reputation , Renault and Brabham were equally unreliable throughout the season , so there was no advantage for Piquet in that department .
Vert timely fuel boost.
"Goes like a rocket" really did apply
If this was legal, why didn’t anyone else do it? I’m sure formula 1 even back then had some rules regarding fuel. Or maybe they just looked the other way, perhaps bribed to do so. I’m guessing this fuel was the equivalent of running nitrous in a normal engine, it definitely made more power but was just as likely to blow the engine apart.
Other people did do it. The fuel Williams-Honda was running a few years later was 93% toluene. Toluene is a known carcinogen; this is probably what prompted the governing body to step in.
Not like running nitrous oxide. The point of it was to raise the octane rating; not to increase the amount of energy in the fuel, but to increase how smoothly it burned -- which in turn allowed an increase in turbo boost pressure
Not so much rocket fuel, more like 121octane paint thinners.
toluene.
The fuel Williams-Honda was running a few years later was 93% toluene. I don't know that that was the magic ingredient here though
Surely a masterpiece car, BMW Power and Piquet at his best. Renault so good, but BMW power Luch you so ahead on straight
Piquet !!!!!!
