The fact that this dude calls out all drummers for not knowing where to start RnR, and proceeding to demonstrate exactly WHERE and HOW to come in convinced me that this is my new favorite guitar player of all time.
I LOVE Phil X!! Not only is he a great player, but you can see and feel the love and enthusiasm he has for the music. I don't care about the schred-factor, I just dig seeing a cat who truly loves what he's doing. He cracks me up too!
I recently got a pair of high end headphones (well, Bose $350) and I am listening to all my music and hearing for the first time all the stuff I've missed. It's amazing. Little things like Phil is refering to here. It makes me appreciate the legends even more than I did.
dear Phil X! Thank you for your true musical and educative approach to what you are doing. it is always great when a musician of your colibre is sharing his experience.
Greetings Sir. Phil X, You should be Knighted by her majesty for your great contributions toward furthering the betterment of Rock and Roll for future generations. Your guitar riffs are amazing in each video and they spark our imaginations to create new songs from them!...I don't speak for myself...hey peeps speak up anyone who reads this! You are friggin' hilarious and a natural in front of the camera. Thanks for making these: 1. incredible. 2. educational 3. Riff-enriching 4. humorous! vids!
LOVE this combo. i don't know if it's my playing getting better or i'm just digging deeper into my arsenal of licks. haha another factor involved: the guitars i'm handed that play amazing and feel great are guitars that are easy to become one with. sometimes i'm handed a guitar that is really hard to play and it takes all i've got just to come off mediocre.
Its not only the Les Paul what makes this here sounding that nice, its the Tonemaster ! I´ve played one bevor a 6 Months or so, sounds so awesome that Amp !
The thing I love about Phil X and Fretted Americana is that the guitars get played the way they want to be played. Straight balls out Rock 'n' Roll is what these guitars were made for and no one does that better than Phil with a vintage axe.
doing my math homework and the only thing keeping me awake is PHIL X!!!!! yeah man love your style and personality :D and i love fretted americana for bringing me great vintage guitars!!!!!!!
Dude.. regardless of all the crap some of these tools give - you rock. I get you. I thank you for ripping it up on these freaking awesome guitars. If I ever get the pleasure of kicking back a cold one with ya - the first one is on me.
Phil X is awesome showcasing guitars! You gotta love his enthusiasm... Has anyone noticed how his voice is identical to Pickles the drummer's brother Seth.... Specially when he gets a little slurry... :P Great vids, I've ever have the cash to move from historic to vintage territory, I will surely pay you a visit!!! Loads of sweet guitars on your shop!!.
This guy is crazy as hell but damn, he can play guitar. One of the best demoer, if not the best, on the tube. Congrats Phil and congrats FA for the amazing gear you show us ;-)
I bought a brand new Les Paul and just got it yesterday, wow... only thing is, while waiting for it I cut my left hand pretty bad while fixing my car, so Ican't even play it. Since I'm off work while the stiches heal, i have to sit at home and just look at the damn thing... lucky enough it looks amazingly good.... '59 model, vintage sunburst AAArrrggh!
People say "Why isn't Phil famous". I think he is quite well known within the rock music industry, since he's performed live with Bon Jovi, recorded Tommy Lee's solo album, etc. If he was super famous then we wouldn't see him as the cool guy he is right now, and he would probably become more distant because of his status.
"I can't go to sleep at night sometimes cuz I think about that lick." Oh Man! Is there anybody who loves the guitar more than Phil? How can you not love this guy. I love you Phil. Big, brotherly, totally hetero man-love!
Phil is awesome, he just plays down the blues scale at lightning speed, and then immediately yells out YEAAAAAHHHHHHHH when he hits the powerchord at the end
Now there's a great sounding guitar! Holy hell! Phil, next time you have a Les Paul like this, how about a few Mick Ronson riffs? Love the vids. Please keep 'em coming. You've actually got me back into playing.
This dude is awesome, but freaking crazy! He's like "Hey lets talk about this guitar for 45 seconds, and I'll ramble about some solos for the remaining 3 and a half minutes! Lol I'm subscribing!
This is Howard Lessee's guitar he was the keyboard / 2nd guitar for Heart's original line-up & then for awhile after that line-up changed, he then traded riffs w/ Nancy like he did w/ Roger Fisher in the beginning. i love the 1960 burst's
As a former drummer, I started playing guitar because unlike drums i could play it in my apartment any time of day or night! Now i am a les paul player mainly and dream of owning a 59 or 60 to play not to put in vault... dream on ( which another one of my favorite Joe perry guitar pieces-the song, not the dream)
i can't go to sleep at night-sometimes cause i think about that lick, crazy i know whatcha mean, laying in bed i do some of my best guitar playin in my head, that's why you always have to have a guitar by your side & by your bed-side!!
@TheJebalo you can adjust the action man, so if you wanted it could be really high or low, do you mean does the fender starts or tele's have higher action like out of the factory like the way their techs set it up? Cuz yeah. It depends on how you want it man.
The fact that this dude calls out all drummers for not knowing where to start RnR, and proceeding to demonstrate exactly WHERE and HOW to come in convinced me that this is my new favorite guitar player of all time.
i love how he's supposed to be advertising the guitar and then he starts giving us a guitar lesson
I LOVE Phil X!! Not only is he a great player, but you can see and feel the love and enthusiasm he has for the music. I don't care about the schred-factor, I just dig seeing a cat who truly loves what he's doing. He cracks me up too!

The trio: Phil, the LP and the TM amp sound killer togrther. All these songs are the very reason I own a LP!
Everytime i seen a vintage burst les paul i think of one man.. Jimmy friggin page!!
This one of my fave videos from frettedamericana. An awesome Les Paul, amp and playing by Philx plus Zepp and Aerosmith riffs and licks. Love it!
The opening riff to Whole Lotta Love with this guitar through that amp toneally sounds just like the record!
I wish I could be this happy and upbeat for just maybe an hour a day.....
dear Phil X! Thank you for your true musical and educative approach to what you are doing. it is always great when a musician of your colibre is sharing his experience.
On a sidenote, Phil X is fun, entertaining, and he's the only reviewer of guitars that I believe every single word he says.

Terrific playing Phil and too cool bent notes at the end of the riff:)

I remember Howard Leese's guitar collection featured in an ad for something in guitar magazines in the 80s.
