Did this job on my 500 today and this video was very helpful, just want to add a few notes to potentially help out someone else.
    - I see people asking about what tools are needed. Firstly, this should be pretty obvious but you need a full socket wrench set. For removal of the torx screw holding the plastic cover over the wires to the fan seen @ 2:50, you need a torx T8 or T9 bit, either will work. For removal of the bracket holding the AC drier seen at 7:24, you need a torx E5 or E6 bit. Also note that there is another bolt on the back of the bracket. In the video they show removal of the front bolt and removal of the entire bracket, and removal of the back bolt is skipped over. In my case I was able to simply rotate the bracket backwards so the drier could be released.
    - Check your battery polarity. You need to disconnect the negative terminal and they say so in the video, but I’m pretty sure they actually disconnected the positive terminal. But maybe their battery was just installed oriented different than mine. Regardless, pay attention to polarity.
    - The condenser and radiator are sepearated by a small rubber piece, held in by a plastic fastener. The fastener must be cut to separate the condenser and radiator. The rubber piece can be saved and a new fastener can be purchased (”torqflo electric fan mount 900210” from AutoZone is the correct product, price is $5.99). However, in the video they appear to have not replaced these pieces and neither did I. I’m not sure what purpose it serves, perhaps a little more rigidity but you’ll be fine if you don’t bother replacing it.

Thank you so much for this great video! I'm doing this job today. Here are some torque values and part #'s for anyone else who is doing this job:
Union nut on transmission line to radiator (shown at 18:06) is 16mm, and torque is 20 Nm (15 ft-lbs)
Banjo bolt on transmission line (shown at 18:47) is 19mm, and torque is 30 Nm (20 ft-lbs)
Gaskets for Banjo bolt (18:47): part # 163-501-00-60, 2 required.
Refill is bit more than 2.5 gallons of coolant, use Zerex Gold G-05 or equivalent; you can get that either in concentrated or pre-diluted (50/50). Minimal ATF loss, and power steering fluid loss is perhaps 1/3 cup.
I couldn't get my upper hose to move on the side where its clamped to the engine, so I slide the fan down, instead of out. I still had enough room this way to remove the radiator (with the fan in the bay, but pushed back and sitting on the floor).
Thanks again for this great video!

Thank you. Your video is outstanding and has given me direction for tackling my 2005 ML500 of which I cracked off the small plastic radiator top thin hose back to the holding tank. I figured 154,000 miles radiator probably plugged up anyway. Thanks again. Professional quality video

Me too! I guess the plastics getting to a brittle age now. There were only a few things different with the fan on the ML430 V8 as it comes off the motor, but otherwise awesome vid guys! #NoBoltsLeftOver

Yeah, how'd you know what size tools to use? Surely you had to figure that out on your own which could've saved time if these guys listed them! But you still gave them props. Not only that but, not every bolt/clip was showed in this video.

  • @junglist1soldier

2CarPros In newer videos? The issue is with this video that he’s referring to. How is someone supposed to do this particular job, that you shared a video of to help people when you’re actually not helping by not saying what tools are required?!
At least a list of the tools needed under the video description would be quite useful.

OSC or, Nissens are great affordable brands. I just got an OSC for $41.41 from carid but, I would recommend that you buy from somewhere else like Summit and then have them price match because if you order the other cooling system parts from them, the total in just shipping alone could add up to $86!!! This is because they order them directly from the manufacturer's Warehouse individually.
Unfortunately, I totally forgot to price match and had to remove many items I wanted to replace in order to avoid the $86 shipping total. It was ridiculous because my radiator was only $12.85 to ship and for the Prestone 22 oz. radiator flush they wanted to charge close to $14 to ship that little bottle. While 2 gallons of coolant was $7.50 to ship.
If I send everything back I will incur a loss of money for shipping. Carid doesn't have the Mercedes Benz brand coolant/parts and it seems like there's no warranty on my radiator because they said if I install it and it's damaged from shipping, I won't be able to return it. They've got low prices but what does that matter when the shipping is crazy high?

I tried to remove the radiator drain plug but it broke. I drilled it and removed it. When I replaced it with a new drain plug, water was leaking from the litlle black hose next to the red drain plug. The threads are damaged. What can I do to fix the problem?

What year is this particular ml? Why does it not have a cooling fan infront of the condenser like other w163?

    • @psalm2forliberty577
      @psalm2forliberty577 2 роки тому +1

I think earlier w163s had the front electric condenser fans + some had large mechanical Fan w/ clutch.
This one shown is identical to our 2002 ML500 - having a single large electric cooling fan.

took our 2002 to the dealer because the key stopped communicating and wouldn't start ..said it was the battery and now starts .i thanked them told them it has a transmission leak can they look at it as i just bought it for 2800 from a slick sales guy ...i knew the day after i bought it it was bad because it lost so much atf over night and its now all over the driveway...
the Mercedes tech then sent me a text that said my radiator is leaking internally and mixing coolant with radiator coolant and could be a 4000 dollar repair but theirs another tech there that wants to buy the truck from me ...i said i only drove it 3 weeks adding the wrong atf every other day ...( someone already put wrong atf before i got it ) the plan was get leaks sealed up flush transmission and get correct fluid . i love the looks of the ml320..i figured German engineering should last forever if maintained correctly...my bill at dealer was just under 350 new battery and labor .......thats when the service manager told me they would give me 400.00 for my suv and thats after i pay the 350 for the repair.....thats 50 bucks for my vehicle. my feelings were defiantly hurt..i thanked him for the offer but passed on it...i was shocked.
heres my problem...they towed the suv from my house to the dealer...she sat 2 months before i could afford the repair....so she was dirty and tires were low front was probably 15 psi or less....
when they took the vehicle from my house it still had paper on the drivers side floor from where it was detailed from the car lot..it was returned to me inside panel off and in the back seat ....greasy hand prints all on the inside exterior was filthy took 20 minutes to bring it from the back and i seen the porter with a jump box and i asked whats that for ? he said battery was dead..i said DUDE.....ITS LESS THAT A WEEK OLD YOU GUYS JUST PUT IT IN..
i feel like i was treated like trash .
i promise that it didn't have this radiator problem when they took it .....my transmission leaked clear and clean , now its overflowing the cooling system......and it looks like a milkshake .
im shaking my head thinking this ,
they offer to buy it , i turn down the offer ....and from there i was treated like crap .....
even KIA washes my wife's Sedna when we bring it for any reason ......here in Texas and in Illinois ...
sorry for my grammar and what not ....
i am a can do guy ...no fear trying these repairs with you guys posting awesome videos like this ....100 stars and a million thanks..
what are your guys thoughts on the tech texting me from the dealerships message service to purchase the 320 for 400 dollars then returning the 320 to my family filthy flat tires dead battery and not back together ...oh the motor cover was just sitting on the block and now its broke almost in half...

Really sorry to hear that! I read your story and I have to say I am appalled that someone in the auto industry would try and fool you like that and then when it doesn't work treat you badly. Mercedes makes great cars when they are new but as they age the problems come big, often, and expensive. The reason I ask is because my radiator is leaking and I'm wanting to try a "Radiator Stop Leak" product that's supposed to provide a quick fix. Do you think it's safe to use?

    • @psalm2forliberty577
      @psalm2forliberty577 2 роки тому

Radiator stop leak = NOT A GOOD IDEA.
It will clog ALL small passages & most likely kill your heater core by plugging it up.
Just replace the radiator properly it will cost WAY less overall.
