Bugs often cross right into areas where repellents were applied because they need to contact the insecticide in order to be irritated by it (excito- vs. spatial repellency). Products with a standalone non-repellent active ingredient will often tell you on their label that their product does not provide knockdown. Knockdown is quick immobilization of the pest.
