I'm a couple of months into my first welding job after graduating. I got 3 interviews after one day of filling out applications, passed all three weld tests and started working later that week.
@@grahamtech I got an Associates Degree in "Welding and Fabrication Technology" from my local Community College (WCC) and just listed it under the "education" section of my resume.
I worked as a machinst at a machine shop and volunteered to weld on rusty steel castings. No one wanted to weld the dirty castings except me. But that experience let me put some welding experience on my resume for the next job. I have been welding off and on through the years because I was willing to go beyond my job title.
If you're Green and land your first few Jobs don't be surprised if you get asked to do grunt work. Don't be a Princess, just get the task done and move on to the next task. whether its grinding, cutting or preparing parts earn your stripes.
This is exactly what I needed, thank you for the great advice. Hoping to graduate in December. I took some time off from my current part time job to practice my welds to perfection every day at school. The key is practice like you mentioned on video. Going to start applying and hopefully start working on fabrication in the summer and work my way up! ( any first welding job I would be happy with as a new welder!)
Very good video. When first started welding pipe. You could call a contractor. Ask if they needed welders. Then ask when you could test. No resume. Also all the certs you get from welding school are good. If you test for a refinery you have to pass their tests.
8 tahun saya di lapangan langsung. Sekarang saya welding di workshop. Kombinasi telah saya lalui. Saya suka pekerjaan ini. Gaji no 2 yang penting nyaman
Great video really got me thinking about taking the first move. Im a welding school student right now, trying to build networks I’ve applied at a welding company and they just said “we’ll give you a call back if anything” I’m going to respectfully annoy that person now because I do want this job. Thanks super informative video!
Join a Union and get great pay, a 401K, a Pension and excellent Health and Welfare...and the best part is the Union will find the work for you. I am a 25yr Union Pipe Welder Local #342 and have never been out of work unless I took a day off or went on vacation. Another great thing about being a Union member is you can't get fired because the Foreman or some other supervisor doesn't like you. And finally, you have " Union Rights" as a member.....overtime after 8hrs, paid for lunch if you work through your designated lunch time, plus you get mandatory breaks...and the contractor provides all the tools you need to do the job! Pro Union
Local 342? I live here in the east bay and heavily looking into this union. I couldn’t apply last season but looking forward to apply this September. Tips / advice to get ready for this? Is there a practice test online somewhere? I’m 21
Hello I’m interested in going to Welding school, but what people telling me/my family is that,it would be better to get a job where I could possible get more experience in welding/training but not sure if it’s better to go to school for welding?what would you recommend?.
These same company’s that depend on your skills to make their business grow think their job is the valuable commodity and NOT your skills… get paid accordingly and don’t be afraid to switch jobs to get that raise.. always keep an updated resume. Every company I’ve worked for struggle to fill positions but they act like you’re going to break their bank when you ask to be compensated accordingly when they make hundreds of thousands of dollars off of you per year.
If you want to pipe weld, get an apprenticeship and join the United Association of Steamfitters Welders and Plumbers. Aside from good paying jobs, most halls have weld test shops fully equipped. You'll be able to practice whatever skill set you want when you want with the latest gear.
Hello everyone, I am a professional welder. I studied for 3 years in my country and worked for 4 years of experience. I am looking for a job in New York. I am new.

If you get multiple offers from different companies, make them compete for you.

It varies depending on the job.
