As the name of the weekly news series implies, Europa Woche was created for an international audience, specifically for populations in German occupied and allied countries. The content was carefully orchestrated mixing military themes showing the superiority and success of German and allied arms, political and economic themes, and light hearted segments focusing on cultural and leisure activities. Reel 56 in the series was released on March 21, 1944.

I always enjoyed the soundtracks to the newsreels. I appreciate the time stamps too. Thank you for sharing this film!
Fascinating look at life on the home front during such perilous times. Thanks for sharing this, Frederick!
A great bit of history.
Thanks for sharing 😊
You bet
Thank you so much for sharing ,Frederick. Always interesting and informative.
Thanks for sharing this Frederick Shame that there wasn't any Commentary But the Clip with the Experimental Tilting Train was interesting looking forward to seeing more Cheers
I am late to the premier of the show as usual, but I guess, better late than never. Great job Frederick! One would think with a name like Fuchs (Fox) Id be quick, but alas, turtle I guess was already taken. Thank you for inviting me to the channel! Again Great Job!
Thanks for watching!
Quite a series of topics and scenes....great stuff.....was the ending battle scenes the battle of Narva near/in Estonia ? .......
It is easy to forget that many normal activities continued, even in 1944, as the war increased in scope and destructive action. Non-military activities and research were ongoing as evidenced by the testing of the new train designs which are featured in the newsreel. These 1944 designs look remarkably similar to today's high speed trains which are in use throughout Europe and elsewhere. An interesting reminder that normal activities continued, whenever possible, during these years of privation and devastation.
In fact, Germany did not go onto a "total war" footing until sometime in 1943.
Interesting comment David
@@ErnaldtheSaxon.... however, to be noted...the scenes here are from mid 1944.
@@ErnaldtheSaxoncorrect but it is good to remember that Germany went on total war after the catastrophic defeat of Stalingrad
Is that a stug 3 with an additional machine gun mount on top. Never seen that before. Maybe front line modification??
no, stock
_Tbh, I'm far less familiar with Europa Woche. Now I'm curious. This is so different to Wochenshau, much more light hearted. How times have changed, propaganda used to be so much more straightforward. We briefly studied Dr G. in my uni marketing days & I found his work fascinating, albeit all for a terrible cause. He assembled a very talented & dedicated team, as this shows, it was 1944 after all & most German cities were already destroyed.
_Nice little bit of editing to kick off btw. Thanks M1945_
Thanks Joe
missed the premiere (out visiting today) from part of the film you would never know a war was on with so many normal activities and even the fighting ones would give the impression Germany was winning, another good video Frederick
No worries Craig, thanks!
Great stuff as always fred thanks for the content
Had to search on Google who was this "Truppe" painter from 2:59-4:33 and found out that this was Karl Truppe, an Austrian who painted one of Hitler's most well-known portraits during the war
That's interesting, I didn't know that. The one of him on a white horse in armor?
Who is the artist? Did the panting survive the war?
Thanks.
The artist is Karl Truppe. I have no idea if it survived the war
Karl Truppe 9/2/1887 was a WW1 war painter on the Southern front. Died 22/2/1959. So he indeed did survive.
some of the footage from narva is what i saw when i first got interested in ww2 and now it's so great to have context to it, had no clue it was in narva! and pskov rings a bell, otto carius?
That I'm not sure of
I can easily make a positive comment but it might offend a whole group of people.
Thank you for taking that into consideration
I dont like clickbait thumbnails
Ed, neither do I. Do you consider this clickbait?
Hi fred hope you are well? I was wondering have you ever heard or seen uttering on the Internet about there only being 600, 000 german Jews in Germany and people saying that the amount of Jews that were murdered have been grossly over estimated? Also I saw somthing where apparently the final solution was being termed before the wannasee conference. I saw a picture of a news article quoting the amount of Jews in Germany aswell. This was dated in the 30,s now I know this is such a touchy subject. I was just wondering whether this is the musings of so call holocaust deniers. I don't know what else to say as it seems some things are totally untouchable. But I'm of the opinion that when you can't criticise or question or debate issues how is that freedom of speech.
I perfectly understand if this comment has to be removed, as I know the overlords are always watching.
