If you want to get rich with coding, do not go to college.
You might have been told this lie that “you need a degree to succeed in tech” or “companies only hire graduates” - but that is bs.
You see, even Google don’t require degrees anymore and there are people landing $70k+ jobs in just 4 months using new, much more streamlined and effective ways to get a tech job in 2024.

i've talked to big tech recruiters, all of them told me that they will skip over applications with no college degree 99% of the time or at least favor the guy with a degree. It's important to remember that college is free in a bunch of places aswell.
I think what happens is that a bunch of people go to bad colleges because that's what they can afford/ think it's best.

Agree most often than not it will depend on the employer. You often have to get past the HR department in which case any degree is probably good, shows employers you can stick at something, often ca;;ed 'the grind'. From my point of view I just got my first tech job, its a government job and I'm 60% of my way through an IT degree, I'm also 53 so it definitely helped ;)

From my point of view, what he said in the video is mostly correct. However, he just forgot to mention some facts.
      1) Standing on the hiring side, it is very costly if you hire the wrong person. Therefore, a degree is more likely to be trusted than a certificate issued by a random program. It is obvious in any job description that people still list degrees first and "or other equivalent experience" following the degree text.
      2) Networking is the key. The video mentions it, and as far as I know, there is no doubt about it. Universities often do it very well due to their long history of doing such kind of work, and they have alumni who graduated from the universities and want to network with like-minded people.
      3) Applicant tracking software (ATS) was designed to NOT drop a degree keyword while scanning through a resume.
The video is good, and many people hope it is correct. However, it is too oriented to sell the CourseCareers, which makes it somewhat biased. One additional point is that when attending a local career fair, a hiring manager said he recommends people not to list any certificate they obtained from online courses because he has no way and no time to verify such things. Degrees are fine because they are standard.

Hay i wanna become a data engineer and i am thinking of doing college online and the only reason why i am thinking of doing so is because the college is providing the access to every single course from coursera without charging any extra fee, and by doing online i can also focus on my main Data engineering skills.
So what you think about it should i do it or not?
