- After our major wreck in the last race - (See Adventures in Karting Season 3 Episode 8). We try to get the kart running again. There isn't much time to the next race so we focus on just getting it rolling, and suitable to drive.
There is still significant damage to this kart that we haven't addressed!
You'll notice that I'm pretty low energy, frustrated, and in a tired bad mood! No Racer ever likes to see their machine smashed up!
Join me as we strip apart the parts, straighten things, and get back to racing.
This video covers:
1) replacement of King Pin
2) install of new steering column
3) install of steering rods
4) alignment of front end
5) replacement of bumper hardware
6) a visit to the track for testing!
Cheers,
Damage that happened but is not covered in this video:
-Front Bumper Rails
-Frame Straightening
-Fender cracks
-sprocket carrier
Axle
Rear Bumper burn through, holes, and warping
Exhaust straightening
Exhaust mount straightening
Brake line wearthrough
-Tire damage/replace from driving with bent alignment
Due to the rush in getting this ready to race, I didn't capture ALL of the damage on video. but I'll do what I can to show you how much all of this cost in an upcoming video!
Thanks guys. Looking forward to the next race!
You know what. I've watched enough of your videos that you deserve a sub. I hope you keep putting out good content!
Thanks Taylor! I will make more content. !!!
Zombie 🧟♂️ mode activated 😂
Well done another great informative video Brent. I always look forward to a new edition popping up. You’re efforts are greatly appreciated 😎
Enjoy! I'm glad someone likes my poorly edited videos!
Brent Kadler haha no I get how pain staking it would be.
excellent video, thanks for showing everything in detail. Really entertaining.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this had a crash similar replaced steering column for second heat lasted 3 laps as someone spun informs of me and bent the new one
Yeah. Sucks. These repairs can sometimes be costly.
Good video Brent!
Thanks!
Hey Brent, we do laser measurements without tires
Cool!
Good luck in the next race Brent. How did testing go?
meeh. lots left to fix and adjust.
Just a quick question on your alignment, wouldn't you normally want to do this with the chassis fully loaded?
Thats a great question! Yes, in order to get the 'true' alignment you will need to have the chassis loaded. But as with tire pressure you can set it hot, or cold. You can do the same with alignment. Set it loaded, or un-loaded. What matters is that you're consistent, and you make adjustments from a known configuration.
Hey Brent, I found a couple of new fuel pumps that I'll send you. I don't need them anymore.
Hey Mike! That'd be sweet! I'll email ya.
Just came back from the us grand nationals and probably getting a rotax
Yeay Rotax!
Drill new hole for steering wheel on the shaft
Could be done. But the holes are so close you'd end up just making a large oval, not a 2nd hole. Could be done, and then just crank down hard with the bolt to tighten things up. I just bought a new shaft, and keep the bent one for backup just incase.
Dang... how much would a crash like that cost. I want to get started in karting but I want to know how much a small bump like that would cost.
That Crash cost me... about $1500-4000 depending on how you look at it. My bank account is $1500 down, but the value of the kart and it's longevity is also shortened.... soo....
Never reuse a straightened bumper bolt. It will fail. Use a 10.5 or higher bolt, not the common 8.5 as these are more prone to fracturing.
Good advice. Most guys on the track also run 'bumper savers' as these bolts tend to break.
21:30 mmm
I’m sure that left a mark on your wallet
hah. Yes! definitely in the 4 figures!
