As requested by Ren's fans and Ren personally in last week's video on the Kujo situation, I decided to support him and react to his latest video. Now since I hadn't recorded a reaction to his explanation of the situation, I thought I'd include it here. For those who already know everything or simply don't care what I think about it (which is totally fine), timestamps might help. Thank you all for supporting Ren in this and for respecting his wishes not to engage with Kujo.
Love how ren has connected so many different people , who would have thought I would be sitting here watching a lady from Belgrade giving her opinion on a piece of art by a British artist and I'm loving it 🇬🇧😊
I think the same would have happened with The Beatles, only there was no Internet back then. Then again, comparing Ren to one of the best known British bands ever also says a lot, right? Greetings to UK! ❤❤❤
Sick Boi is a masterpiece and thankfully is now back up again and I would highly recommend watching it. Sick Boi is Ren's story about his medical battles and greed
Thank you so much! I do try to keep my reactions focused on the topic and reasonable rather than overly emotional. I'm glad to hear it's appreciated. ❤️
The original Sick Boi was put back on for now until legal resolution. He had a face to face meeting with UA-cam Music CEO and copyright strike was removed.
Thank you! Yes, I know, I'm subscribed to each artist (including Ren) that I've ever reacted to. I do plan to include it in my reactions, but man do I lack time to make everyone happy (myself included). 😊
I really enjoyed this extensive reaction, Aleks. You show great respect for Ren and his art, which I really appreciate. But also, like you say, it is smart to reserve some for the brackets, as there most probably is at least ONE more side to this than what we have heard so far. I find it almost impossible to believe that Kujo was willing to jeopardize his whole career like this if he doesn't have a stronger card at hand. But greed is a thing, and it has made lots of people do really stupid things in the past, so.... Let's see how it all plays out in the end. But make no mistake, given the information we DO have, it looks like a pretty clear case. Thanks again, Aleks 🙂 Have a great weekend! Much love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
Knowing that you're a fan of Ren and knowing you to be a very intelligent and reasonable person, I expected this kind of reaction from you to my video (provided you had the patience to listen to the whole thing which IS rather extensive). Thank you so much for having the patience for the whole thing - I added the timestamps so people with less patience could survive it. 😂 While watching Ren's explanation and even a lawyer's explanation reacting to Ren's video of this situation, I found that without sorting it all into facts being shared the only decision to be made would be an emotional one. So, I thought I'd do what I could not find - a summary of what's left unexplained. To me this looks like Kujo might have even reached the phase Ren is in now a bit earlier, as he might have really been stonewalled by lawyers for months before even reaching Ren and even told that they are relaying Ren's stance on the matter. His responses to Ren might have been in anger as well. Then again, it's not like Kujo's clean from the start - I mean he did sell someone else's property. So, um... Still on Ren's side, for my part based on what ARE privy to. This is something only the two of them can resolve and meddling from the public can only make things less fair for either party. I'm sure they both know more than we do. ;) Love to Norway, my dear Sharkster! ❤❤❤
As always, Ren is very meticulous with his phrasing. Though I'm not too happy about the way he addresses Kujo's girlfriend in this song, I continue to respect his expression in all his work. That one is well put.
@@AleksReacts Thats a totally fair view- even as a guy I was like damn, he really coming after her. Its such a tricky situation to navigate in my opinion - like Kujo's gf really did go at Ren 2x harder than Kujo himself, and she couldn't have expected immunity if Ren doesn't have a significant other to fight for him. With what he says to her, its just enough plausible deniability to negate the harsh words. Like you like it rough and going to kujo and saying thats what you said. Bonnie and Clyde - thats not a bad thing to be called. He just mixes enough good with the bad. Ultimately though, Im just a guy so opinion is biased and I do think the words towards the girl will be the most controversial topic amongst the reactors and he may even address it himself as a lesson learned. Still love to hear your thoughts on it all in future videos and quotes of wisdom from you or the artists to help anyone through life. All Love!
Thank you so much! Actually it was exactly the "you said you like it rough" and "S-word' at her that ticked me off. All else was fair game really - C-word, B-word, etc. as those are descriptions of personality traits. I'm even of the belief that the girlfriend might have prompted Kujo to this whole mess. Some of us women are a bit overly protective of our men, so we overdo it. She kind of did. 😉 Being "just a guy" does not take away your right to an opinion, btw. Many guys are boyfriends, husbands, fathers and grandfathers of little girls. In my view, quite a lot of men are protective of women and I think that to be a good thing. Men speaking up against men being rude or worse to women is a good thing. Thank you for that!
I particularly believe that, apart from the legal issues, Ren has the possibility, due to his art and the large platform of followers, to express his rage and his contained anger. These processes are sometimes long, exhausting and exasperating. I lived it for years (which seemed like an injustice to me at the time) and you can discover my darkest side, full of bitterness and restlessness. I think that from what I saw in the video (I couldn't understand all the legalities and it was also very tiring) Ren is right, but as I say I'm not sure, since I'm not an expert on the subject. For me, the interesting thing is that Ren with HIRen has created two characters that help him express his emotions in art...(Depending on how it dawns, he takes the "Psychopath" or the "Compassionate"..ha,ha. I'm looking forward to the second part; it is very well produced. Above all, I love it visually. Thanks Aleks
It's hard to tell exactly what happened in this particular situation as some details are not disclosed or maybe cannot be disclosed. It is also hard to follow unless you're literally a lawyer in the music industry. I tried to sum up what remained unclear in Ren's video at 01:08. However, based on what he did share, my own opinion for those who already know the story starts at 06:35. Common sense as opposed to legal knowledge though. I agree that with Hi Ren he created two very interesting and opposing personas we both referred to. It is a perfect way to expose an inner monologue taking place over a very stressful issue, which I'm sure this is. As for the 2nd part, I hope it will not happen, hence my advice to Kujo. Personally, all of the disputes I've had throughout my life (not many though) were resolved without any 3rd party involvement. Ren kept proposing this and being ignored or gaslighted even. His point of view in this song is extremely understandable, especially since here the "Psychopath" wins after his "Compassionate" persona is shut down multiple times. I think the ball is in Kujo's court now and I sure hope he catches it this time to his own benefit.
Your analysis of the legal situation is pretty much spot on although Kujobeats is entiled to a share of the publishing for the licence Ren purchased, assuming that Kujobeats possessed good title, as asserted, in the first place. It seems not. There is a word for selling something you do not own and for some reason it's frowned upon legally all over the world. Even more so when you contract to supply something free of the possibility of third party claims, then don't. I think that's 'beach' something ? Forget the words. The problems are between Kujo, Kujo's publishers and the publishers for the Bulgarian Choir. Ren's publishers would pay Kujobeat's publishers according to the terms of the licence. Ren purchased an unlimited use licence in good faith. The whole issue is actually nothing to do with Ren whatsoever, so to copyright strike his track when Kujobeats had no legal right to copyright strike his track is ... 'dubious' shall we say, at best. Only the Bulgarian Choir would technically have the right to put an injunction on the track until publishing terms were agreed between themselves and Ren for continued & historical use of the sample, NOT a copyright strike as it's a publishing infringement not a copyright infringement. It is possible that Ren might have to negotiate his own terms with the choir [if he keeps the choir sample] even though he was unaware of the fact that the sample was not cleared when he bought his licence. The Bulgarian Choir retain the publishing rights to the sample whoever sold it to Ren, but he could then attempt to recover those costs from Beatstars for mis-selling and then they would action to recover their costs in turn from Kujobeats for stealing the sample and passing the entire licenced product off as 'all his own', either innocently or otherwise. That depends on the agreement between Beatstars & Kujobeats. Again, nothing to do with Ren. Kujobeats has absolutely no leg to stand on in attempting to squeeze money from Ren and the way he has gone about it [or how he was advised to go about it] has left him in a far, far, greater pickle than when he started his attempt at ext ... oh, what's that word ? Expulsion ? No that's not it. Mind's gone blank there as well 🙂
Hard to explain everything in 8 minutes, but yes. 🙂 I'll pretend I never read the part about stea...breach, or extor... expulsion and all that legal jargon. 😂 Everything you said is what I was thinking except for the part where I was unsure as to the type of "unlimited" license Ren purchased. I thought unlimited meant you waive all your rights to any income from the sample you sold. Turns out there's more to it. I've dealt with contracts most of my career even though I never worked in the legal department. I wrote up or checked sales contracts, contracts on copyrighted work, employment contracts, vendor contracts, individual services rendered, property rentals, consulting contracts, etc). Therefore I understood who has the relationship with whom here pretty much the same way you did. Thank you for expanding on that, though! 🙂 Another thing that did not come to mind for me was that the choir could ask Ren for their piece of the cake, but mainly because I also think that would need to be absorbed by Beatstars and ultimately Kujo, as Ren bought a "clean" sample from Kujo through Beatstars.
@@AleksReacts You summed it up very briefly in a way that I could not [See below] 🙂 Not being privy to the contracts themselves between the parties involved it's impossible to be 100% sure without reading all the fine print but as far as I can see [Disclaimer: Just from what I can gather from what I have seen so far] Ren contracted with Beatstars who sub contracted to Kujobeats unless Beatstars were simply acting as agents but a similar thing would apply. No direct contract exists between Ren & Kujobeats at all for anything [Again: from what Ihave seen so far]. As regarding not clearing the publishing rights for the Bulgarian Choir, the Choir have the rights regardless of what did and didn't happen, so could choose to go after either Ren, Kujobeats, Beatstars or indeed all three. That's where it gets messy and could get expensive. Kujobeats have actually put TWO innocent parties in the frame as now both Ren and Beatstars could be jointly liable for something they may have known nothing about. That's when the 'legal action chain' could come into play, which would help nobody. In any case we're still only talking about a percentage of the publishing for Ren and not the master. As to the legal holes that Kujobeats have put themselves in by their subsequent behaviour and actions in writing, I can't comment as it wouldn't be right to. Ultimately the buck stops with Kujobeats / Beatstars [depends on the contract between them] having to negotiate with the Bulgarian Choir's publishers and Ren now being forced to negotiate with them too if he wants to keep using the sample and for past publishing claims. Ren could then recover his costs by suing the person who he'd had the contract with [Beatstars probably or Beatstars & Kujobeats depending on the type of contract]. Beatstars would then have to sue Kujobeats if they're jointly liable to reclaim what they had to pay to Ren. Very messy, very expensive [especially for Kujobeats] and totally avoidable had proper checks been done in the first place. All three could be in the position of paying a publishing percentage to the Bulgarian Choir [Beatstars depends on the contract with Kujobeats] for past and future use. For Ren's publishers, no different [although the amount would still be negotiable] with a percentage of Kujobeat's share going to the Choir's publishers as agreed and the rest going to Kujobeat's publishers. There could be punitive costs applied too. Whatever happens, the one who will ultimately lose out the most is Kujobeats, because that's where the buck ultimately stops. Even more so if he attempts to fight it in court. Kujobeats/Beatstars could already lose part or all of their $99 'sale' and the same for every other one they've ever sold with that sample. Not just Ren ending up owing the Choir, they do too. If the Kujobeats-Beatstars contract had an 'I warrant that I have full title to this work' clause then once again that ton of bricks is also going to fall on Kujobeats. Not only did his attempt to get money from Ren & copyright striking the track with no legal basis give Ren more than a few civil legal avenues to pursue WAY beyond publishing money if it goes to court, Kujobeats may have to pay back historic sales revenues to Beatstars and potentially damages for lost reputation to Beatstars too. With Ren taking the song down, he's only going to be liable for publishing so far and Kujobeats only get a percentage up to the point it was taken down, but will still have all the back payments to make to the Choir, pre-Ren's purchase. If I was Kujobeats, I'd be cancelling that Five Star Holiday in Hawaii. Had he taken ANY of Ren's offers he would have ended up in a much better position than he's in now, with no future income and revenue to pay on his past sales too. Smart moves, turning those offers down, when Ren didn't actually have to offer him anything. I think lawyers cost so much because of the amount of typists they have to employ 🙂
Thank you so much for taking the time to write the details! With the information shared so far, I think you've explained it perfectly. Based on all this, I guess for Kujo's sake, he'd probably best take that advice I gave him in this video and you basically gave him at the end of your comment (in retospect). He should also hope to heaven and back that Ren decides to hear him out one last time. Appropriately at the end of my comment to be aligned with yours, I haven't met many lawyers with a great sense of humor. You've managed to explain very serious stuff and still never seem to forget just a tiny, yet hilarious joke in there. 😂 Yes, I do find them funny. No, I am not joking. If I ever need legal council I'll be pinging you, but brining my own typists. Some other parties who shall remain anonymous might consider that option too. 😉
Hmmm...not sure about all this exscept to say that nothing is actually original in any way because it has all been done..claim whatever you like but in the end it has all been done before you or the next artist and that is reality...
@@StefanVillkatt I am normally in agreement with you both on this, but in this context, he did throw a lot of the sexist word choices around at everyone, including himself. He used the P word once, at himself. He used the C word twice, both only at Kujo. He used the B word 4 times, 3 of which were aimed at Kujo, and once at his girlfriend. And finally, he used the S word once, which was at his girlfriend. So, to me, the shots are being fired in every direction in this case. And with the additional context of the initial "inner dialogue" between his two sides, and the fact that he has given in, and said "fuck it" to allow his dark side off the leash, it does make some sense, that these are words being thrown around in anger/rage. So, in this situation, I choose to respectfully disagree with you guys. This doesn't make me right, or you wrong, and I hope you can at least see my perspective, even if you do disagree. Either way, I loved the reaction, and wish you all the best.
You do have a point and for the most part I actually agree with you. Especially since he clearly does let go mid-video, both hands in the air and giving things over to the angered dark side. However, I may have been a bit unclear as to what I was talking about. The C-word, P-word, B-word, etc. did not grate on my ears as those describe personality and character flaws. I was referring to the part where he said "I thought you said you liked it rough" and the "S-word" which refers specifically to sexual behavior. It doesn't describe a personality trait, so he went a little further than name-calling and only at her. Hope I'm making more sense now (or it might be that I'm a girl so I hear that "louder")
Maybe not right away, but soon, soon. Must be fair to all and fulfill my promises as much as possible. I will react to Sick Boi for sure, mainly because after all this fuss I am interested to find out what I missed there. Thank you for letting me know it's back up. 😊

@@AleksReacts You have a lot of reading patience 🙂 Thanks.
It was worth the read! Also, I've been reading all my life, pretty quick reader really. 😊
It's been a pleasure. Thank you again!
Hmmm...not sure about all this exscept to say that nothing is actually original in any way because it has all been done..claim whatever you like but in the end it has all been done before you or the next artist and that is reality...
I'd wager that the Bulgarian choir was at least a bit more original than Kujo. 🤣
Totally agree about the sexist word choices. I wish he would use other swear words.
I'm definitely on Ren's side here, but as a woman I thought the sexist word choice should have either been for both of them or not there at all.
@@AleksReacts Agreed!
@@sullenskulls9709 Excellent comment 🙂
You do have a point and for the most part I actually agree with you. Especially since he clearly does let go mid-video, both hands in the air and giving things over to the angered dark side.
However, I may have been a bit unclear as to what I was talking about. The C-word, P-word, B-word, etc. did not grate on my ears as those describe personality and character flaws.
I was referring to the part where he said "I thought you said you liked it rough" and the "S-word" which refers specifically to sexual behavior. It doesn't describe a personality trait, so he went a little further than name-calling and only at her. Hope I'm making more sense now (or it might be that I'm a girl so I hear that "louder")
sick boi back up , check it out
Maybe not right away, but soon, soon. Must be fair to all and fulfill my promises as much as possible. I will react to Sick Boi for sure, mainly because after all this fuss I am interested to find out what I missed there. Thank you for letting me know it's back up. 😊
