    Hi friend, your comparison has really generated a lot of comments. I guess it’s something that interests many of us. Personally, I know it might be a bit tedious, but I’d love to see a comparison with the internal codecs, like the internal open gate vs BM’s, as well as ProRes. I feel like the Lumix has its tricks. But if not, either way, thank you very much for your video.

    The s5ii has less noise than the PYXIS because it has a better signal to noise ratio at both ISO’s, not because it has internal NR. it doesn’t apply the NR to BRAW images externally. Only downside is the 16:9 limit for the s5ii, no open gate in BRAW :/.
    Great test! I think I see a pixie in my future to compliment my fleet of S5ii’s as the A-Cam when my budget allows. All my lenses being compatible with each camera is becoming a serious consideration now that I’m running multi-cam for clients.

    • @MrJayclas
      @MrJayclas 3 місяці тому

      S5ii has noise reduction, that how you’re getting that ISO 4000 so clean. It’s not a lot but it’s definitely some applied.
      The log curves are different and that’s another reason it seems cleaner.
      Just use BRAW in resolve with both cameras then set them both to vlog, they will then have the same log curves, then set them both to BRAW and both images will get darker.
      Setting the Black Magic to vlog is a low light cheat code 🤫 don’t tell anyone but you gain a stop in a half of light just by switching BRAW to vlog in Resolve.

    • @CartyCantDance
      @CartyCantDance 3 місяці тому

      @@MrJayclas not in RAW. it bypasses the normal camera processing. ISO 4000 is clean because it’s the second base ISO of the camera. The SNR of the s5ii is closer to the fx3 than the Pyxis, meaning the shadows and lowlight will be cleaner without processing.

    • @CartyCantDance
      @CartyCantDance 3 місяці тому

      @@MrJayclas that’s not how any of this works. A different log curve can’t make your sensor perform with a better signal to noise ratio. Do you think all cameras that have slog3 perform the same as each other at the same ISO’s? What are you talking about???
      The s5ii is shooting in BRAW, not VLOG.

    • @MrJayclas
      @MrJayclas 3 місяці тому

      @@CartyCantDancethey use the same sensor buddy. I think you’re missing that.
      You have to change the log curves before you say it doesn’t change anything. You can even use nlog and watch all of your dynamic range disappear.
      It definitely affects the image and how highlight and shadows work. You have to experience it for yourself before you give others information.

    black Magic has the red, blue and green lights for exposure. You have to turn them on in the menu.
    I use the S1 with BMVA and Cinema 6k. I found if I add plus 400 to temperature to the S1 they match almost perfect just doing that.
    They look similar with the BM having more detail because I do believe there’s some noise reduction from vlog.

    On the Pyxis, Shooting anything below 1250 ISO will only shift the middle grey, so it doesn't actually make for less noise. This is why most people would only use it at 400ISO and 1250ISO. (1250 and not 3200 because on 1250 you tend to expose more to the right, netting you less noise) shooting up to 1000 ISO would do the opposite, and may result in more noise instead!

    Thank you for this video. I'm having a bit of a dilemma. I would like to record BRAW on my s5ii as i work with Davinci Resolve. I would have to buy the BRAW unlock firmware and Video Assist 12g. The HDMI delay might be a dealbreaker. How much delay is there after turning off audio output via HDMI? The Video Assist doesn't allow touch focus control right? I hope Blackmagic will come with an updated version of the Video Assist.

    • @guidedvisionsmedia
      @guidedvisionsmedia 3 місяці тому

      Personally bro I don’t get why people care about HDMI delays unless you use a 1st AC. Even shooting MF and pulling by hand isn’t that bad. On a cam with great Autofocus it’s not a problem. And if you have any issues you can always rent a teradek or something for jobs that require a shorter lag time.

    Just wanted to say thanks for the video... and to shake my fist at the sky and curse the video production gods!!! Why do all the agencies want videographers to shoot on an FX6??? What's really crazy are people using manual focus lenses and shooting at 24 or 30fps, so they aren't even using the two biggest benefits of the FX6 (i.e. Great autofocus and crop-less slow motion). It's a crazy world out there.
