  • Taking a closer look at the Kyosho Outlaw Rampage ready to run kit in 2020. Is it still cool? I take a closer look at some of the parts and electronics, and I do a very quick test run. It's more of a light breakdown of the truck instead of a review. I hope you enjoy the video!

I bought one of these for one real reason. I had seen a forum where the center mounted the engine and removed the Moa for a real scale appearance.

I wish they made them as kits, not ready made, for beginners.

I agree, my personal preference is unbuilt kits. The Pro version is only partially assembled though.

1.5 years later, any thoughts on customizing this truck yet (if any options are available for this model, that is)?

Hey Stephen, sorry for the late response! Ive had this for a while but I haven't touched it in a year or so. I do have another video with some upgrades and a new body. I mostly used hop up parts from a Rampage Pro (like dampers, steering, stabilizers, etc.). I updated the servo, replaced the spur gear with I think an Associated or TLR. Probably wroth getting the Pro if possible as those will have the chassis and damper upgrades already. I haven't looked into new upgrades to be honest. If I did, I would switch the wheels/tires to wider ones, play with the springs and oil, and keep the car on running on more paved surface, skate parks, etc. The gearbox is a hassle to clean as the design is not easily accessible.

in my opinion, for 2020 the chassis architecture and engine position is outdated, compared to losi baja rey 1/10, redcat camo tt 1/10 and axial yeti ax90050 1/10. but the video was good, very relaxing ...

Thanks for watching! You’re definitely right about the chassis. One thing to note though is that this kit is half the price of the Redcat and Axial, and maybe 1/3 of the Losi. Maybe a higher spec’d Kyosho model might be better.

I see it as the Baje Truck equivalent of a Tamiya Grasshopper. Don’t overpower it, the inner gears will break. Beside that gripe, it’s a lot of fun. Loud, tho. I replaced the spur with a Turnigy 32pitch spur. Smaller pinion. Fixed! ( got both the first release, cheap, in a sale, and the Pro kit.)

Pretty good assessment there. It is a fun RTR kit and a really good value. I did replace the spur with an AE one and put on some used Pro kit dampers. It is definitely loud.

there are some good hop ups though for it and it was quite inexpensive and most of all it is such a cool car and it makes you really happy driving it :)

What IS better Arrma granite voltage 2wd ou is this kyosho parts Up grade etc

Hi Mauricio, thanks for watching the video. Regarding the Armma Granite Voltage 2WD and Kyosho Outlaw Rampage 2WD, they are a bit different in terms of category. I don't have the Armma but from what I've seen the Armma is more of a monster truck (wheels and configuration) while the Kyosho is designed as an off-road scale truck to look and drive like a real 2WD truck. The way they will be used or driven is also a bit different. I think with the Armma you can be a bit more rough. It looks like it will be easier to drive and more ideal for bashing or jumping. The Kyosho will require a little more experience since it can roll over more due to the scale truck design-and narrower wheels/tires. The Kyosho has a bit more quality and the electronics installed are better in my opinion, especially the transmitter (control). If you take into account the price of each Kyosho electronics installed, it really should be around or over $200 USD. Another thing to consider is the parts availability and costs. I believe the Armma will have cheaper parts. The Kyosho parts range from ok to higher priced-it’s just how it is with most Japanese RC brands even with their entry level vehicles. You also have to consider how easy it is to get parts in your area/country. One experience I had with the Kyosho was that some oil had leaked out from one of the front shocks when I unboxed it. So having some spare shock oil (like a #350 silicone or around that weight) might be necessary. However, if this is a first RC for someone the Kyosho can be a little intimidating. I think it boils down to how you plan to drive the car, the terrain in your area, what level of RC experience the main driver has, and what you intend to do with it long term. If it is to just bash and have fun, then the Armma could possibly fit those needs. I have the Kyosho because of the scale truck look and the upgrade path for the future. Anyway, I hope this helps and good luck!

That’s a good point. It actually jumps well for a 2wd.

Thanks for watching! How much is the Losi Baja Rey? This Outlaw is an entry level kit. It's an RTR less than $150 USD

The 1:10th Losi Baja Rey is nearly Aud $800.00 here (Usd $ 606.00) and 1:6th Super Baja Rey is Aud $1,500.00 ( Usd$ 1,161.00) .. I'm NOT paying that . Kyosho is fun for what it is, and I like the looks.
