I always enjoy Paul London interviews, he comes off as one of the few people who aren’t trying to get a job or get on someone’s good side, he’s just telling you what happened. It’s refreshing to hear someone speak without holding back.

Right. I think thats why Rene and London haven’t been on AEW or WWE. They don’t play the political game or kiss anyones ass like 95% of the wrestlers today.

The Smackdown locker room in the mid-2000s sounds like a shitshow. A bunch of grown ass veterans taking the made-up politics and etiquette of their scripted sport way too seriously while the young guys try to endure it and make a living. Benoit also participated in a lot of that hazing bullshit around this time and was spending a lot of time with Bob Holly, so that should tell you something about the fucked up mental state of the guys doing this shit.

It's the other way around. The vocal majority speaks as if it was a brotherhood and the wrestling court antics are generally in good natured fun, it's the guys that didn't make a huge name for themselves or are too stuck up that keep complaining.

Bob Holly was pro for 20 years and the only thing people remember him for is crap like this. You'd think in all that time he would leave some kind of in-ring legacy, but no. Go back and watch that clip of him assaulting the guy on Tough Enough and you'll learn all you need to know about Bob Holly: he's a bitter, insecure, career jobber.

I personally always enjoyed his in ring work and he was one of my favourites growing up as a fan.
Only having other people's accounts of the back stage stuff(as I obviously wasn't there) it would be wrong for me to comment but we've seen several "incidents" on camera that confirm the picture people paint of Bob. Whether it makes him tough, a bully, a badass, a nutter, etc... is a matter of opinion I guess.
All I can say is that I liked Hardcore Holly as a wrestler and character and so do many others. It also might be true that you might need people like him in the wrestling locker room otherwise you end up with what we have today. But again that's a matter of opinion and it does seem like he went too far at times.

Jesus Christ Bob...Johnny Ace set Rene up that's for certain, this was 2004 and last hardcore matches on shows were back in 2002 which Paul is right they got rid of when they released Raven, Crash and after getting rid of the Hardcore belt. I understand Paul felt he could have done more to stand up for Rene but it's likely Bob would have turned on him too despite not having any major heat with him at the time and what Van Dam did was good getting him off Rene after the match was done which is pathetic...beating on Rene in a shoot when he was trying to do his best to put on a decent match, Bob should have been fined and tbh suspended imo for that but since it's a set-up they wanted this to happen otherwise they wouldn't have put a Hardcore stipulation in a match at a house show in a town like Syracuse. What shittiness that no one should have to deal with especially in a company as big as WWE it's all about making sure you put on a great show and not try deliberately injure other talent on purpose especially by fighting them in a shoot. My heart is always with Rene on this one, glad Paul helped Rene get to the hospital and was supportive of him throughout, a person like Paul London to travel with on the road and is a good friend in the business is someone that makes life more bearable as a WWE Superstar.

After seeing you on your podcast and hearing Paul’s version of the incident, I am not afraid to admit I was in the wrong. Bob Holly from what alot of wrestlers in the past said. He is difficult and too stiff to work with others. His reputation from Tough Enough was disappointing how he treated those Tough Enough wrestlers

There's the reason why top bullies in school never get punished - they used by top of school teacher board to do stuff for them (a lot of them turned security, tough guys in some negotiations etc). And all you have to do is to threaten to expelled them if they not obeying your orders. There's a lot of benefits it top bullies for the people in power and that's why you see that more and more. Pro Wrestling is not an exeption.

Bruce Prichard was shooting on the incident between Holly and Dupree. Prichard told a story that was totally different than what Dupree is saying, he, Prichard said that Dupree borrowed a rental car Holly had and received parking tickets and caused Holly to have a warrant issued for his arrest. He said other things that sounded like bs that Holly said was his reason for hurting Dupree. Plus I've heard of 3 different people who pulled Holly off Dupree. Prichard said that Big Show pulled him off , Dupree said it was Van Dam and someone else said it was somebody else. I believe Dupree is the one telling the truth.

And I never liked that about Holly. I recognize and respect the fact that he's a veteran and knows his stuff. but there are too many stories like this about him. And there are too many videos of him actually doing it. Like the time he fucked the one kid up on Tough Enough.

Undertaker was nothing but a Company yes man and Vimce lieutenant. He did nothing to protect women or young wrestlers from agents or powerbrokers. Worse, he was tight with bullies and thugs like JBL and Hardcore Holly. The only wrestler who stuck his neck out to protect others was Bret Hart who protected The Rock from HBK and HHH who wanted to run him out.

My problem with beating someone up in the ring like that is, that the person having the match with you is giving his body too you in a trusting manner to work together.. I'm not saying that Holly didn't deserve to get his revenge on Rene, but doing it while you're in a wrestling match where the idea is to work together, by giving up your body in a semi-relaxed state is fucked up in my opinion.. If Holly really wanted to fight Rene, he should of done it in the locker room, at a bar, somewhere where the other person is not willingly giving you his head, body, and otherwise.. Because one shot that you don't see coming, because you are giving your body to said person, is probably an automatic fight ender, which means chances are, you won't have a chance to defend yourself afterward.. It's just not right in my opinion.. I get old school mentality, but too me it doesn't make you a TOUGH GUY, to do that shit.. And say what you want about both guys, but you can tell that guys like Holly, JBL, Bully Ray, etc. want SOOOOO BAD to be recognized as a TOUGH GUY!! Which I am sure they are, but doing it in that nature makes you kind of a pussy in my opinion.. I've been listening to Rene Dupree's UA-cam show, and he seems like a pretty laid back cool dude, I am sure he was a lil cocky at times being that young, jacked, and a good looking dude.. But he didn't deserve that, in that environment in my opinion.. Besides if you ask me, from what I've seen of Holly, he seems like a good dude to a degree, but can come off pretty stand-offish if you didn't know him.. So I doubt someone like Rene at 20 years old or whatever, was too keen on having any kind of relationship with the guy.. That 2002-2007 time in WWE was a lot of Vets like Holly, roided to the gills, getting pissed about WWE finally using a developmental system that was bringing a lot of new, younger roided up guys into the fold, because those territory guys were getting older, so I imagine there was a lot of hazing, bullying, and just trying to embarrass these newer guys in front of people by guys like Holly.. So I'm just not taking Holly's side on this one, due to the way he handled it.. If it had been "off the clock" so to speak, my answer would probably be a little different, but that's obviously not what happened..
