since i'm only a kid and don't have much control over our house or what we own lol, i like to keep my room clean and declutter once a month. i also go through my clothes once a year to make sure they still fit, and if not i donate them and get new stuff! i use the method you use where you get rid of something every time you get something new. 🤍🤍
One in one out rule because my daughter grows so quickly that it's easy to become overwhelmed by how many clothes to declutter so I try to declutter once every two weeks so that her wardrobe becomes more minimal!
Hi Ashlynne. I think the conscious use of finances has been the favorite in conjunction with making a clearer living space. Thank`s for the great content and congratulations on your beautiful new home
1) use a one in, one out rule 2) audit your life 3) keep surfaces clean 4) ask yourself questions 5) take time for whats important 6) keep a donation bo 7) embrace space 8) write a wishlist and wait on purchases 9) use the 80/20 rule 10) create reset rythms
Me and my husband had to start minimalism. There was one time he was like I DONT HAVE SHIRTS TO WEAR! I counted all his shirts that night and counted 74 shirts and 8 pants. I told him afterwards, he was very disappointed with himself. We started to sort out his clothes, sold some and then donated most. Now he has 15 shirts and is very happy with it. He gets to wear all of them in 2 weeks (just in time for laundry) and we have so much closet space! IT is the way to go
I started a wish list this past year for Christmas. I never know what to say when someone asks me what I want for whatever gift giving event bc I have always been blessed to get what I want/need when I wanted/needed it. However, I started the list in October of last year and instead of going out and buying things like toiletries, stamps, 4 color Bic pens, etc, I wrote them on my list. When family/friends began to ask what they could get for me, I actually had an answer. Everything I got for Christmas was something I use, and it didn't matter if more than one person gave me the same thing bc most of the items are consumable. I also didn't have to worry about returns or feeling guilty about what to do with random gifts that I had no use for. I now have decided to keep a wish list year round as all of my "holidays" are spread throughout the year (Valentine's day, May birthday, November anniversary, and Christmas) Works for my husband as well as his birthday is in April.
Clearing off all surfaces is my top habit for a calm, peaceful home. But I actually have no clutter in my home, it's amazing how little we actually need to live happily. I always write a wish list for the month and it has been huge in saving money.
Loved Atomic Habits - my favorite 2020 read! Habit stacking is so helpful! My favorite habits 1. Run the dishwasher and take out kitchen trash every night. 2. Nightlime reset/tidy of living areas 3. Morning Bibke reading, reflecting, planning.
I’ve always waited on purchasing items! Sometimes an item seems like I truly need it at that moment but then I realize that I won’t need it until months later or that I don’t even need it at all. Waiting helps put things into perspective and prevent impulse buys
Thank you for this video. One of the things that has helped us minimalist is moving. Having to move 6 times going through things prior ,you realize what you really need😄
It’s a practice. Practice letting go of stuff, practice clearing smaller flat surfaces. Practice letting go of the easier emotional stuff. What I tell my family is that if they’re neutral about a thing then it goes. If they really want the thing, we keep it and since I’m working from home now I keep a box in my car in the garage for filling.
On the theme of keeping surfaces clear and tidying up after yourself, I always say do it right the first time. I despise having to do something the next day that I could have easily done the night before or having to redo something if I didn't put it in it's correct place. Prime example here is leaving laundry on a chair, drawers, table, sofa etc until the next day so you can do it all in one go or because it's late and you want to sleep. This happened to me all the time and I always regretted leaving it for the morning. However now I fold & put away after each load not until it's all done. If it's late I do it quickly because it actually doesn't take long and then I don't have to do it the next day when I've got that days tasks to complete.
My favorite habit I've developed is the pause before buying. I write the list of items I want and when I go back later I often find I'm no longer wanting or needing that particular item. Or perhaps I find I already have something similar I can substitute for that item. Great video, thanks!
Ashlynne, I really think you should consider podcasting! I think you have such great content, but it's usually something I want to listen to vs. watch! Your videos are BEAUTIFUL, but I always feel a little bad for myself when I'm watching this video instead of listening to the words and doing something a little more productive for my own life. Does that make sense? Keep growing and doing beautiful things! Love having found you through sarah therese :)
Last month I started reserving two sections in my kitchen freezer for dinner and smoothie ingredients. After I pull things out I fill it again with other foods. This proved helpful when I was given two boxes of food this week. I had room to store them so they won't go to waste. I also have been trying to clean my dishes and tidy up each day. It's led to me declutter other areas. Thanks for your helpful information.
I think the 1 in 1 out rule can be kind of dangerous though, I've seen people cycle through things (especially fast fashion) by getting rid of stuff they just bought so they can buy new things
I’m a home decor lover (and old enough to be your mom haha) but lately I’m loving clear surfaces with less decor. I’ve been moving things around my rooms to try & reduce visual clutter.
I don’t think that‘s something someone can really teach you, either you‘re ready for it or you‘re not. Keeping photos as memories can be helpful though
In another video, you said to make a list of wants and wait before buying them. I have been doing that since then, and it has stopped me from impulse purchases! Thanks!
These are great tips. I need to be better at the one in one out rule. Thanks for another really great video ashlynne, your content always inspires me improve my channel. I agree that atomic habits is a great read!!
Asking questions before buying and decluttering different things really helped me on my minimalist way! Btw, great video as always, thanks for posting it!~
First off-this video is soo crisp & welcomingg 😍😍 Inspiring me to up my game on my channel 😁 Shoutout to everyone that’s trying ❤️ Great content Ms. Ashlynne! 🥰
Great video Ashlynne! I've enjoyed many of these habits for some time, but probably am due for some resets and I'm going step back and take a look in each room to look for areas to create some additional space around the items that remain in view. Thanks for all the tips!
Ashlynne, thank you for this video..great habits to keep in mind! I like making the time to tidy the kitchen before sleep so the sink is clean and empty in the morning. Also, your hair looks gorgeous! Your curls look so natural yet defined all at once? Earrings are also really nice! Keep up these great videos and congrats on your new home, you seem to really be settling in nicely! ☺️
I did the one in one out rule the other day! It felt good and I also decluttered my clothes and shoes and have 57 items! I’m happy I have just what I need and nothing extra that gets in the way! Yay! And I also bought my first sustainable and low packaging items like a bamboo toothbrush and healing salve in a reusable tin!! Yay!! So happy I’m making small changes to save the planet! 21 days to make a habit or break a habit!
These tips are all so valuable! I really want to try the idea of combining a wish list and a waiting period to shop more intentionally; excited to try it out!❤
I try to handle things only once or twice. For example: I pull out deodorant from the medicine cabinet, I put it right back into the cabinet after applying
holding on buying the item is one of the things I also keep telling people on my videos. It's probably one of the strongest fundamentals you can bring into your life!
No way, At first... I just decided to watch your video... Then, I ended up... “I have already applied all of it... ” Ok, now I’m proud that I’m certain a minimalist... Thanks for your videos... It helps me...😊
Great tips, thank you! :) One bit of feedback: the white-ish background with the light-colored top kind of washed you out a bit, at least on my screen at first, compared to previous videos. The white font for the first couple tips also was a bit difficult to see against its white-ish background. Other than that, very soothing video as always! Thanks again for producing these!
Life audit yes... Though i like to experiment with things depending on my mood. Have thrown things out which i have regretted in hindsight however in general its a good idea for sure
What is your favorite habit for minimalist living? 🤍

I love that you said simplifying isn’t the end goal.. so true. We have to identify the reason why we are simplifying so that we can keep it up
Same. That bit often gets lost in most minimalist's videos.
I also keeping horizontal surfaces clear. It really does help reduce mental clutter. I'm still working on this habit.
I think minimal living is more positive and increases your creativity

Ohhh I would love a video where you talk through your book collection. I always find it fascinating to see which books people have. Xx
I second this! Can you share your book collection and specifically books you’ve loved and learned from relating to minimalism and slow living?? Xx
❤❤
Thank you for this video. One of the things that has helped us minimalist is moving. Having to move 6 times going through things prior ,you realize what you really need😄

Love that!!
I try to clean up or pick up as I go and get everything ready for the next day, like laying out clothes or collecting the laundry I want to do.
That makes a huge difference!!
On the theme of keeping surfaces clear and tidying up after yourself, I always say do it right the first time.

mine is definitely a desire for a simpler stress free life. love love your video. so happy I found you. new fan here!
I begin each day with my devotions, prayer, and my morning coffee.
It may not be minimalist per se but it gets me off to a good start. 😉🥰
That sounds amazing 🤍
My husband and I do this together!!
I am now following this minimalist mindset. It's definitely changed my life. I really like your last point about resetting.
Thank you for all of the reminders ❤️ sometimes you just need to be reminded of the things you already know.
Ashlynne, I really think you should consider podcasting! I think you have such great content, but it's usually something I want to listen to vs. watch! Aww thanks!! But don’t worry haha I just listen to videos sometimes too. 😉 I promise I don’t mind 🤍
Tbh I always just listen to YT videos while I do other things ie exercise, clean, cook etc
For me:
1. Ready to go donation box
2. Waitlist for purchases
3. Container concept
4. Clear surfaces
Last month I started reserving two sections in my kitchen freezer for dinner and smoothie ingredients. After I pull things out I fill it again with other foods. Congrats on 200k!! 🥰
Thanks so much Hannah!! 🤍
This is super helpful! Thank you Ashlyn!
I do have an active donation box going as well and tidy up before bed. I find I sleep better at night
I think the 1 in 1 out rule can be kind of dangerous though, I've seen people cycle through things (especially fast fashion) by getting rid of stuff they just bought so they can buy new things
In their case they gotta audit their money I guess
I’m a home decor lover (and old enough to be your mom haha) but lately I’m loving clear surfaces with less decor. I’ve been moving things around my rooms to try & reduce visual clutter.
That's a great idea. Loving minimalism too. 😍
Intentional purchases-such a great concept! So much better that impulse shopping!
Absolutely!! Such a different mindset and it makes a huge difference 🤍
I use pinterest as my wishlist. I'm constantly decluttering my pinterest and adding what I really want or need.
Yes! Added a kitchen aid to the counter and removed the knife block
Can you make a video specifically on “how to let go of items/objects”
I don’t think that‘s something someone can really teach you, either you‘re ready for it or you‘re not. Keeping photos as memories can be helpful though
She can definitely give us advice on how to make it easier tho
In another video, you said to make a list of wants and wait before buying them. I have been doing that since then, and it has stopped me from impulse purchases! Thanks!
Thanks Ashlynne for these tips. I keep my house straightened up all the time.❤
I like the idea of having a donation box. That way you can declutter more consistently rather than just doing a massive declutter once in a while.
Watching your videos ms. Ashlynne always brights up my day,, especially on my rest day😀inspires me to be more intentional to everything.. 💙💙💙
Thanks again ! Love all your videos !
These are great tips. I need to be better at the one in one out rule. Thanks for another really great video ashlynne, your content always inspires me improve my channel. I agree that atomic habits is a great read!!

By the way Christopher’s hair looks great 😊.
These tips are all so valuable! I really want to try the idea of combining a wish list and a waiting period to shop more intentionally; excited to try it out!❤
Looking sharp, calm and relaxed! I've read Atomic Habits and agree, excellent read!
I can definitely relate to feeling overwhelmed by stuff 😖
I’m so ready for my minimalist glow up :)
Loved about the 80/20 rule, knew about it, but never connected it with minimalism, really 20% of stuff does 80% of our work.
Right?! It’s amazing how many aspects of our life that can be applied to 🥰
Lately, I've been settling in to watch UA-cam right around when you happen to upload. I have the book "How To Draw Modern Florals," too!
informative! Thanks soooo much!
Oooo I enjoy these kind of videos! Thanks for posting it!
Excellent content Ashlynne!!
Thanks. This video is very helpful and inspiring
That my principal too - you are so inspiring to so many people
Oh you’re so sweet!! Thanks Carla 🥰
Needed this reminder. Thank you!
I try to handle things only once or twice. For example: I pull out deodorant from the medicine cabinet, I put it right back into the cabinet after applying
Yes! Thank you so much, this was definitely needed.
Oh I’m so glad to hear that Alesha!!
Loved this video as always Ashlynne ❤️ thank you!
Upon your suggestion I purchased Atomic Habit. It is an interesting read.
Thank you for your tips! Such wisdom! Some I had already heard and implemented but other tips sound like they are worth trying!
That’s so great to hear Jenny! Definitely give them a try 🥰
Atomic Habits is such a good book! I just read it in December.
Your so pretty!
Also, thanks for the tips!
Very well explained! Thank you for this video! :)
Big YES to more minimalistic habits in 2021!
Wow your content is beautiful and high quality. Thank you for your great tips.
me watching this when im supposed to be doing homework... lol this is perfect timing!!! 😂❤❤❤
Haha love that!!
Same lool 😹💔
Takes time to what is really important
LOVE this - perfect timing for this week 😌
I enjoy the "big declutters" but I have been better about either discarding items or putting things in a box for donation as I come across them.
I dunno how but I am super attracted to a minimalist lifestyle 😂
I just finished that book today!
Thanks Ash, this video was pretty poggers.
holding on buying the item is one of the things I also keep telling people on my videos. It's probably one of the strongest fundamentals you can bring into your life!
