Jack Dupree retired from boxing and living in Europe he decided go alone to the Montreux jazz festival, there improvised he knew King Curtis and decided to make this jam session. Changing a lot of rhythms in the songs, the Curtis band had to be very attentive to make it sound good. Last week i was in Montreux and it is shad that i was born in this era where this type of music no longer interests almost anyone. I would have liked to go into a pub and find this kind of people giving a concert.
this tune makes me wanna cruise around memphis in a gold '67 dodge coronet, with a crushed up pack of chesterfields on the dash, and a wad of hundreds in my billfold..
I had just started getting into the music of King Curtis when I was a young man, and then BOOM!!!!!! He was suddenly gone. Luckily I was able to enjoy Cornell, Jerry, and Bernard (who isn't here tonight), for a very long time afterwards. RIP Jack, King, Cornell, and Bops.........you are missed
Fucking exciting a rhythm section what ever existed! Just glorious, phat as fuck, rich, bold, satisfying like a big plate of fried chicken and apple pie.
all you sax players who go crazy trying to sound like king Curtis , looking for same mouthpieces ,reeds , selmer horns , as his ,forget it , if you could blow his on horn you 'll never sound like the king.
i believe so. young queen. age 29 i think. looking like she enjoying sum classy tunes. in contrast these young stars of today...yuck. zero style...most of em.
