August Winter yes! My Nanny and Poppa were both from England. They’ve both passed away since 2015, so Julie brings me some of that grandparent comfort. She reminds me a lot of them. 💗
August Winter she became my crush right after I watched ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘Marry Poppins’, so for me it’s more like a ‘person who could have been my girlfriend, but was unfortunately born 60 years before me’ kind of vibe
I have all of her CD albums. Searching for it one by one is like digging a diamond from a cave.

I was watching her on another talk show, she was talking about how when her daughter was a little girl they were out and she overheard her daughter telling another woman that her mom was Mary Poppins (the movie had just come out and there was a poster). The woman was then overheard saying to a friend or something, "oh how sweet, she thinks her mum is Mary Poppins". Julie then made her presence known, and I guess the look on the woman's face was priceless.

@@sarahparkinson1450 She had surgery on her vocal chords to remove nodules (rough growths from friction of the chords) and something went a bit wrong and she lost a fair amount of her range.

I remember in Princess Diaries 2, Mia had her birthday party and Julie started singing. My mom watched this with me and I remember her absolute shock and how she said she couldn't believe Julie Andrews was singing again, and that was when I learned that she had lost her singing voice. I remember my mom being so happy to hear her sing in the movie. Watching her talk about it has made me actually cry. I want to hug her.
I think Julie Andrews got teary eyed telling her story. She is my idol when I was a kid I use to watch sound of music a hundred of times.

I think it will always devastate me thinking about her losing her singing voice. True magic was ripped from all of us that day of her surgery. I'm glad she found a way to deal with it in a healthy way.

As a young child, my siblings and I discovered her in 1980, when the Sound of Music came on the telly. It is memorable because it was the only time our parents let us have our dinner with the television still on. Dame Julie has an immeasurable talent, with a quick and surprising sense of comedic timing, a graceful dancer, and with that powerhouse voice. The comedy routines with Carol Burnett are some of the funniest skits ever! She’s also a tough cookie who overcame many difficulties in her childhood in the UK. Thank you Dame Julie for gifting us with so many joyous memories and laughter throughout our lives. Cheers from Canada

Fun fact, while Julie Andrews couldn’t come up with a favorite curse word, she did curse a lot when she was shooting her iconic turn on the mountain top from The Sound of Music due to the scene being filmed from a helicopter that kept blowing her down from the powerful jets whenever it circled around her to do the shot again and again.

Despite the loss of your singing voice, Julie, you are still alive and active as an actress and a writer. That is really important for me.
I am a huge fan of yours, and of course I miss your singing voice. I wish you could grab the microphone and sing to the music with an orchestra. But you have recorded a number of songs, which help me a lot. Though you no longer sing just like you used to when you were younger, I consider you one of the queens of Broadway musicals.
By the way, I forgot to mention that I am a Japanese who works as a translator. You helped me like English, which is a real treasure for me.
