My biggest disappointment last year was the huge price increase of Scream Factory 4Ks in Canada. I love their support but $40 - $50 on average now is crazy. Especially when so many great titles could be released by their original studios only to get picked up by SF. If Sony released Evil Dead it would of been $24.99 Max.
I've been getting a bunch of greasy gunk on the cases lately. I don't complain to SF, but I really don't appreciate having to clean off the discs when I get them in. They are new and should be pretty darn pristine when we pay top dollar for them. Planes/Trains was a bit of a disappointment to me. I wasn't angry like people on the forums, but it didn't look great~especially at the beginning. Looked almost muddled and just a bit of a mess.
Cheap company. A lot of Sony dvds I have from the 2000's were covered in grease. They won't stand the test of time and these 4k blurays that Shout Factory produces will go the way of the laserdisc and start to rot/deteriorate.
When Resident Evil Revelations was first released on Nintendo 3DS, the first batch all had "Revelaitions" or something like that printed on the spine. I think I still have that.
What bothered me the most last year was the number of releases that had scratched discs. People say you can’t fault the studio - it’s the Mexican plant's fault - but it is disappointing to open up a highly anticipated release and find scratches on the discs. Candyman 4K I gave up on after going through three copies that were all scratched. If I stop collecting physical media, it will be because I’m tired of dealing with the scratched discs, lack of QC, and damaged packaging (e.g, smashed or dented steelbooks shipped in bubble mailers).
Great video! I agree we all hate double-dipping. But as physical media collectors, we should expect it. I think the problem is time frame, and the fact that a better format is available. 4K is no longer new format. A two year gap would be easier to live with. But not a few months. I also agree with Friday the 13th. I loved it. The darkness added to the atmosphere. How can it be scary if it's not dark?
Thats the thing about 4K...in some cases a title was released for years in other formats with the wrong color grading or low quality transfer. Then we see the new scan and release and we're blown away. However in just as many instances we have often seen a title the correct way on blu ray with a solid transfer so 4K becomes redundant.
Thank you for this. There's been so much news and a lot of it either got forgotten about or people who might not have known. Anything with double dipping always annoys the hell out of me, same thing seems to be happy with the Rocky set coming soon
This was a great video, Ken! I forgot about a lot of these. I'm with you on the F13 4K. I didn't even realize that was a controversy, lol. I loved that 4K transfer, and found it was well worth the upgrade. I totally agree with the Halloween 4K set, though...that was just stupidly priced. The Planes, Trains, and Automobiles 4K just arrived at my doorstep yesterday, so I haven't watched it yet, but I got it for the extra special features, so as long as they're present, and the transfer is fine, I will be happy. As for the grease issue, I see that relatively frequently, regardless of the company, and it never really bothered me. It isn't too big of a deal, IMO. That said...I still need to grab 2 and 3, lol. Anyway, awesome video, man! Thanks for sharing.
I thought it funny that Ken didn’t mention the only actual real problem people are talking about with the Friday the 13th 4K: Removing the “fade to white” scene transitions. I haven’t heard anyone complain it’s too dark.
I did notice F13 was dark but mostly on the night or late evening scenes and I watch this in the middle of the day with the windows open so I thought it was mostly poor natural light management on my part.
@@walter2695 I finally bought it and watched it last week. I thought everything looked great, and even the problem I did hear about doesn’t actually seem to be there after all. I watched it in the day time and didn’t notice it being dark at all. I always tend to close my curtains when I watch something taking place at night anyway, because my window behind my couch always puts a glare in the TV.
@Tim Walden I guess we are used to studios creating artifical light for night scenes in movies so when F13 just let the natural darkness of the location show on camera. It's not a big deal at all it looks real.
Not a mistake on the cover but in the end credits of Wayne’s World they list Rob Lowes character as ‘Benjamin Oliver’ and in the movie he introduces himself to Wayne and Garth as Benjamin Caine. -nerd facts
Lmao I was wondering this whole time of why some of my movies had this randomly,I was thinking someone was secretly Taking my discs out when I wasn't home or something🤣
The Craft 4K disc doesn't drop in resolution. There are treacherous dips in bitrate during the intro and a few other places. Shout Factory's responses to those who reported the issue were completely unacceptable. They took no responsibility whatsoever, despite being given clear proof of the issue. I've never seen such awful QC from any other studio. Scratched discs, freezing/skipping, etc. Not to mention they have the worst packaging for any releases with 3 discs or more. Those little disc trays holding the extra discs in the case don't latch on to the discs properly so they just slide around loose inside the case and get even more scratched up. Absolutely pathetic.
Love your view, logic and awareness regarding Friday th3 13th. Your are absolutely correct. That movie, and so many horror films of that era, were meant to be dark, atmosphere, and creepy. Those shadows are part of the whole experience. All this desire to make them super clear and bright have taken so much away from part of the magic of these old-school horror films.
I'm a fan of the F13 transfer. It gives you a sense of realism/being there because If you've ever been to a campground/the woods at night it's pitch black.
I wasn't upset to much about the evil dead remake 4k to much,I ended up getting it for around $20 or lower I believe but I do definitely agree that it should of had more to it. Like a blu-ray and maybe a poster or something along with it especially for the price they was asking for. Transfer was great for an upscale to me but other then that it was lacking package wise
Most of Oliver Stones films are filled with set ambience like smoke and fog. Interiors are always blown out with super white light. This is not going to translate to the games the people play at shout factory when they go in and do a new color grading and noise reduction. Humans cant naturally see 4k resolution so any difference you see is doctored colored grading doctored image. Some films just dont play this game.
The night scenes in F13 didn't bother me, it's the day scenes. Whoever did the HDR grade had no clue what they were doing, the contrast is so boosted in the day scenes I almost needed sunglasses to watch it. Add that, the missing fade in the beginning, and Paramount not including the O.G. audio is what makes that a total disaster of a UHD for me. I Cannot stand Scheme!Factory/Scratch!Factory, but I'll give credit where credit is due and their F13 blu-ray is much better than Paramount's 4K-UHD IMHO.
Years ago (pre DVD) I bought (new - shrink wrapped) The Ghost and the Darkness on VHS. When I got it home and popped it into the VCR it turned out to be a movie of a nun (Sister Wendy) critiquing artwork. I took the movie back to the store. At first they tried to claim I'd copied over it, but the quality of the copy was so good they quickly relented. Weirdest thing ever, instead of a bloody violent movie, a calming art critiquing movie. I wonder if anyone else ever had the same experience with this particular VHS?
Hey Ken, Another Scream Factory goof up is on the spine of Battle Beyond the Stars Steelbook on the Scream Factory logo it says Cream Factory too funny!
Hey Ken! A subscriber just bought heat for me on 4K, so I’m happy to hear that you don’t think the 4K transfer sucks, and in fact, you think it’s quite extraordinary! Keep up the good stuff, my man!
Another recent Mis-label was the UK edition of the Harry Potter Steelbook collection. Part 7 had a typo on the front cover: “Harry Potter and the Deaithly Hallows” Yes… “Deaithly” instead of “Deathly”
For Heat and Friday the 13th, or any other movie that restores picture aesthetics to their original directors’ visions, that opens up a whole debate on artistic vision versus ease of accessibility. If I can’t see what the hell is going on, I’m not going to watch the movie, nor am I going to care if “that’s what the director wanted.” Well then I guess the director didn’t want me to see this movie, so I won’t. Same thing with a lot of people complaining about not being able to hear what’s going on in Christopher Nolan films. The man can craft some amazing intriguing stories, but if I can’t hear what’s being said, it makes the movie harder to follow, and subtitles would distract away from the big spectacle scenes that he has in his films. Now I’ve never actually had a problem with either of these two opinions except for AvP: Requim being too damn dark, but that was a bad movie anyway so no loss there.
You can’t say Shout Factory and quality control or care in the same sentence. I’ve seen misspellings on many of their titles and their lack of effort with top level pricing is infuriating. On top of that the constant errors and terrible encoding at times means I avoid them unless it is the only available option. When someone else handles the same master the difference is enormous. Some of their Hammer releases are the best available but are ruined by dumb encodes such as Brides of Dracula.
A big controversy for me is Sony and their re-issues. I understand it is cheaper to drop the Blu-Rays. But if you want the bonus features, you have to keep the previous release. Or worse. Take Spider-Man Trilogy for example. The original 4K set included the BDs with Spider-Man 2.0 and Spider-Man 3 Editor's Cut. The re-issues doesn't include any of that. From what I've seen, EVERY Sony re-issue NO BD is included. Plus their limited availability. I did not get Karate Kid set and now it is a fortune to get it. Another big controversy for me is franchise releases. Again, Karate Kid here, they released #1 and then later on released the set. But not individually. So you couldn't buy 2 & 3. This not limited to Sony. Fox did the same with Predator. I bought the first one and then the set came out forcing me to get another copy of #1.
You aren’t forced to do anything. You make the choice to buy what you do. I went to Canada for the Karate Kid set after it disappeared. Some French on the big box but otherwise the same as the US release to save some money.
@@SumDumGy Forcing is proper word. Sure it is a choice. But if I want the sequels, I am forced to get the set when they are not available individually. Hoping Karate Kid set gets another release. But being Sony, they will not include the BDs. I am not big into bonus materials, so not a deal breaker. But just the idea. When someone upgrades to 4K, they have the option of getting rid of their BDs and still have bonus content.
@@screamingeekmedia I don’t care about bonus features at all. I rarely watch it. I won’t buy a 4K release that doesn’t come with a Blu-ray copy though. Having only one 4K set-up at home, I refuse to limit myself to one viewing location. I refuse to be “forced” into any purchase. Either companies produce what I want to buy or I don’t buy. It’s that simple.
Two comments, one the only thing that bothered me was the disappearance of media from best buy and Walmart in Canada. Second I hate to say this but complaining about a package not having a bluray in it along with the 4k isn't a controversy- its stupidity. Read what your getting before you buy it.
The grease from the off-gassing on the cheap plastic cases can cause respiratory issues. A few here and there probably won’t be an issue, but if you have a large collection then you may want to replace these individual cases.
@@SumDumGy Higher quality PEEK, PTFE and PVDF plastics release much less VOC’s than a plastic that shows the severe out-gassing signs of a greasy film on some of these cases. Exposure to vinyl chloride over many years, however, can affect the liver, nervous system, and skin. Long-term exposure can cause a rare form of liver cancer.
@@donsimpsonshead8809 We get that exact same kind of film on our windshields from our plastic dashboards. More square footage of plastic, heated at higher temperatures, in a more confined area, with more frequent exposure. Even if that plastic is less toxic, it isn’t rocket science to accept the lesser toxicity is outweighed by those factors above.
Apparently watching heat on an oled sorts the issues. At least that's what Jeff said what his subs were telling him and he said it did seem to sort and look even better on an oled when he watched. You should give it another watch sometime on the new TV and tell us if that's the case for you. And let's hope scream can avoid being on like 90% of the list for 2023! Lol
Why no platoon? I imported this to the UK for $40 and it's a terrible transfer I was really pissed off , I didn't have the Blu Ray so was an upgrade on my DVD copy. And with Heat apparently it was shot like that to be dark if you compare it to the original DVD it's very similar.
Have you taken another look at Friday the 13th since getting your OLED? I think a lot of people keep their LED TVs too bright in SDR, so when they switch to HDR, the entire image gets substantially darker (Friday the 13th is indeed dark, but I’m talking about in general) and it really shouldn’t do that. If anything, it should get brighter. While it does often happen with brand new restorations, HDR grades created at the same time as an SDR grade, such as when there is a remastered disc with a 4K, or just a brand new movie altogether, are almost never going to be darker than their SDR counterparts, only brighter. If HDR is darker (again, in the majority of cases, not with F13) you might have SDR set too bright. All that is to say, OLEDs obviously can’t get as bright as LED TVs, meaning it’s literally impossible to pump up the brightness of SDR content way past how it was intended, so you might find your opinion change when comparing F13 on your OLED.
jeff at Films at Home mentioned this while talking about Heat on his new video. Saying how much better it looked on the OLED compared to his previous screen. But, again, consumers should not have to have a top dollar display to enjoy a new format. Not everyone can go out and spend $2k on a tv. When getting our new tv 3 yrs ago, we had to go the budget route.I did a lot of research to get the best bang for my buck and settled on a 65" TCL QLED.
The movie that really gets me is not physical media - and that's the rub! Prey, IMHO a great picture only released on HULU or Disney+ --- I think it's easily as good as the original Predator and way better than all the others in the franchise, everyone seems to want it but they say it's not going to be released! Stupid move.
Scream Factory's Evil Dead 4K really disappointed. The product as a whole just stunk. It's an ok 4k but... single disc, non reversible art... pretty much nothing imo.
Personally, I think there's a lot of confusion about PQ and how 4K discs should look when displayed on a TV. A lot is down to the equipment and the way your TV is set up. I have a stand-alone blu ray player as well as a HTPC with madVR. The HTPC gives the best results, the difference can sometimes be night and day. Heat was excellent, admittedly somewhat dark but very close to what it would have looked like in the cinema. I just couldn't understand all the negative reviews. Some reviewers are now starting to backtrack and admit that the transfer isn't that bad after all. The best reviewer of 4K discs by a country mile is a guy from England. His channel is called moviecollector. What worries me is that unwarranted criticism could end up harming the future of physical media in the long run.
1. What happened to the 48 HOURS 4K and ANOTHER 48 HOURS 4K releases in stores? The 2-pack came out but not the individual slipcover releases! Had to purchase off of EBay! 2. What happened to the IP MAN 2 4K and the IP MAN 3 4K individual slip cover releases?
Sony quite with releasing movies/tvseries on any format in NL/BE unofficial since 1 Jan 2022 but it means actualy count for every movie since July 2021. No Ghostbusters 3, for example. Means Only Vod.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2023! 🎉 To you and your wife! how are you both? (My mother complains I buy too many videos! So I can relate with you as you said your wife complains too! Lol). AND how was your holiday trip and how were your holidays?
Bram stoker’s Dracula Steelbook disc was disappointing it says double vision but I think it could have looked a whole lot better, I really love this movie
Vinyl records are just as bad. Spend almost $40 for a record and then it's just the record. No bonus poster or they don't do a open sleeve, just a plain sleeve. Yeah the art is amazing and music is good but you would think if your paying that much you would get some sense of flair. Mondo is great at taking their time for each release though.
I am so burned up that the Blair Witch 2… And the Blair Witch collection as a whole… Got phenomenal German releases. I have been waiting for a legit Blu-ray and steelecase Book Of Shadows Blair Witch for far too long. And nowhere have I been able to find info that they intend to release these versions into the states. Wth?
@@SumDumGy well it sold out super fast so unfortunately for me that's not the case. it's become a cult favorite of mine and there's another cut elusively existing out there somewhere. There's a Spanish HD transfer out there too, but maybe SHOUT will get a turn with the series of movies.
I know nobody cares, but the Eric Clapton Nothing but the Blues Blu-ray showed up in a cardboard sleeve. Awesome release with the worst packaging I’ve ever seen
Friday the 13th 4k IS most definitely Wayyyyy too dark! I actually Did see it, opening weekend (and in a drive in theater mind you) and then Of course on VHS in the 80’s a hundred times. It was Never that dark! Never. You could always see everything at night, even my Dad who wore glasses, was able to see everything going on.
Well, I didn't look at your video. Just your title was enough for me. Lots of dullness in the world for sure. Glad to see that you have your share of it.
2 things scream factory making halloween 6, halloween h20 and halloween resurrection as a all in one deal not individual releases like halloween 1-5 as i would just wanna buy halloween h20 luckliy vudu has the new restorations still ticked me off though. Planes, Trains and Automobiles now i'm not gonna be too rough being we got 1 1/2 hours of never before seen footage but why the noise reduction??? Why!!!! All they had to do was not apply noise reduction. We went through the same complaint a decade ago. The rest of the transfer outside the DNR seems fine but it's too soft looking because they did something they didn't need to!!! sorry for the the essay long comment
4.K release of NTTD not inlude bonus disc of 2 Disc CE because all extra's are on 4K disc too. Besides that bonus disc not include feature there made 4K inclusief. It should not have been 4K exlusief and it should have been 3 Disc 4k release some people who deside to go to 4K later can already wachting movie and the all extra's.
SF 4K collectors edition with no slips is BS,we pay good money for those releases not the have the slips, I have yet to buy a 4K SF release without a slip, that’s my revenge, should be quality over quantity
There’s an irony, or maybe a hypocrisy(?) in your transition from closing out #9 to opening #8, when you say people made a big deal out of something maybe they shouldn’t have, then you immediately open the next with saying something was a big deal but may not have been to “you.” This is a list of flawed releases that sparked some range of controversy among collectors. Who it impacts and how large is really irrelevant. They exist. Everyone’s collecting habits are unique. Mistakes are mistakes and bad production choices are bad production choices. None of her to choose how it should be for anyone else expect ourselves. Hot take: After a rewatch this fall, Resurrection is the best film in that Halloween box set. I won’t buy the set for anything over $70, tops, but if I went through the movies this year for the first time in a very long time. Paramount always makes the top of my list. The Star Trek boxset does not include the Director’s Cut of part 6 on the Blu-ray despite it saying so on the packaging (that’s worse than a missing Atmos track...this is an entire missing film). *Every* Paramount 4K release that didn’t include a Blu-ray copy, especially those within a series where other entries I. That same series *did* include a copy. We don’t *need* 4Ks. Many of us *do* need Blu-rays and that’s where I will always priorities. F The Rodent House and anything they release. I won’t buy. I don’t care who releases them. The only complaint I ever heard about Friday the 13th was taking out the “fade to white” scene transitions, which is the only thing you didn’t mention. I got the off-gassing the worst on my remastered Lord of the Rings Blu-ray boxset in the black cases. To this day I’ve never been able to get it cleaned up properly. It happens after the discs are inserted and the cases are exposed to heat. The plastic releases a gaseous fume that clings to the surface after it cools. That’s why it ends up on the discs, as well. It’s definitely not a Scream/Shout Factory issue.
A lot of people sound off on these films and I really think they need to have the TVs calibrated. Hey, we pay a lot of money for the equipment and films but go cheap having the TV's settings corrected? The default settings are meant for display in a store, not watching films at home. Pay the money and have the best quality and judge these transfers properly. 😉
5. Disney Red movie the movie and all extra's easly can have been on 1 disc. Whyle Encanto is 1 disc whyle that should have been two disc so that audio can have been better.
🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. Really? “Grease gate”? It literally wipes out of the cases and it’s a production issue. It happens with More than just Scream Factory. It happens to my stuff, I clean it, and I move on from it. It’s really not necessary to make this big of a deal out of it. It’s so over rated, and such a first world problem.
I like your videos but the first 4 “controversies” are first world problems and way to trash on Shout Factory. I get it your paying good money for these movies and want the best. I’m not big on audio so I don’t get the hard on for Atmos, I have no fancy sound system to show off. With 4K the sell is the picture not the audio. Still enjoyed the video though and yea the double dips that Paramount and Shout do is getting old. Also none of this “pissed me off” lol 😂
Paramount has ruined me on Blu-ray releases from them. I will NEVER buy a regular Blu-ray release from them again. I will still buy 4K from Paramount. I will still buy regular Blu-rays from other studios but Paramount hijinks has killed me as a Blu-ray customer of theirs. You are right about off gassing. My Star Trek set was the absolute worst I have ever seen with my purchases.
I looked at the screenshots you showed of the Friday the 13th SF bluray in your review and then put in my copy to compare. Your screenshots did not match what my SF bluray actually looked like, it looked good to me and natural, it did not look too bright or oversaturated like your stills made it seem. Also you don't mention that the 4K is missing the fade to whites at the beginning and end of the credits, and they seemed to add shadows on some faces that were not there before.
Would you expect a screenshot to look the same? How many sources with individual settings is that screenshot passing through to reach your eyes, compared to what you see directly on your own TV?
I had 1 DVD that listed extra material and didn't. I was told that many manufacturers had produced the box the DVD was in was made before the DVD was even made at that time. Remember this was 1 DVD out of thousands and was not a main stream issues Laserdisc from Japan had a major quality control issues of fake or poorly made discs that were flying apart when being played. This was early 1990s Good Video as always 😎
Lots of people were bitching about the limited 4k Saw box set with the mini reverse bear trap that arrived broken into pieces when they got it because the trap wasn't secured in the box when it was shipped.
I kind of don't like how paramount does an annoying split discs thing, like 4k alone, bluray alone, but if you want both you have to buy the steelbook.
I think shout/scream factory has had the most problems this year. 12 monkeys had video errors which affected me lol. I didn't get evil dead after watching your review barebones releases shouldn't come from a premium label.
Also here Viz media goes again with another spread out money pit with their now "master hd" tapes version of Sailor Moon and other anime properties. Just release a single boxset, you've already cash grabbed these series once in the last couple years.
I hear you there, I own all 5 of the Sailor Moon collector's box sets Viz put out on Blu-ray earlier. I don't regret buying them because I think the packaging is gorgeous. But the fact that we have to buy it all over again just to get the improved video quality really sucks. I did purchase the new set of S1 because I think that one fared the worst on the old sets, especially with the ghosting. I probably won't buy the rest of the seasons again tho
@@TwoTailedCaperer Same. I did get the new blu ray of S1 and will probably get the rest since I didn't yet complete the previous set - might be able to make some money back. and to be honest I'm a bit burned out on the Viz actors. I didn't really care for them the first time and I wonder if I want to sit through them again. I'm a DiC/Cloverway stan even with all the edits - many fans are ready for that release even if incomplete.
@@wesleywouldifhecould I don't hate all of the DiC actors, maybe they could have made a happy medium with the dub and kept some of the voices similar to the original. Luna and "Molly" would definitely have to go though lol The Sailor Guardians do sound a bit samey at times. It would have been cool to hear some more unique voices like Lisa Ortiz or Hilary Haag. Cristina Vee was a shoo-in for Sailor Mars after voicing Homura Akemi in Madoka Magica, I think she sounds perfect as Rei. It is nice to have the show fully uncensored in English, and there's not any awful performances in the main cast, so I'm happy with it overall.
@@TwoTailedCaperer fair enough. Nothing against the actors themselves for viz., I just think the company completely sucked the life out of the series. And I don’t hold the original dubs edits against them being that that was American regulations forcing them to edit that stuff out and to be honest Sailor Moon could use some editing… It’s highly toxic and quite inappropriate at moments which is I won’t let my child watch the viz version. I have the original on digital so he gets to watch the edited version instead… I just don’t agree with friends hitting each other in the face and calling each other horrible names and things and lifting up teacher skirts… And so forth. I think the editing of the lgbt characters is tatstless, but that was America in the 90s but the other edits needed to be made. so I’m glad that they did away with all that garbage in the original dub.
Oh the grease shit pissed me off to no end. It wasn’t just Child’s Play. I had to return at least 6 movies due to this stuff not coming off the discs sometimes. Sometimes a microfiber cloth will take it right off, most of the time it would just smear all over the disk. It actually got all over my Godfather Coda disk and just spread and smeared all over the disc. I had to return my set and get it replaced. But I’ve had to make a habit every time I get a movie to check the bottom of the disk and the case itself. Another thing I had was disk pressing errors. I’d be watching a movie and it would just freeze and wouldn’t go any farther. Notably I had it happen with my set of Ingmar Bergman’s Cinema from Criterion. I had like 3 or 4 discs that were defective. But because I ran into those discs after Criterion’s return window, I had to order the set from Amazon, watch the films from the replacement set swap out the defective discs and sent the replacement set with the screwed up discs back to Amazon. There were quite a few things that irritated me in 2022 lol.
Just a heads up, Criterion has had ongoing issues with disc rot. Several titles have been affected. You can see a list of titles on their website I believe. I was watching my copy of Repulsion last year and it froze about 2/3rds of the way through. With a little research I realized I wasn't the only person with this issue. If you email criterion they will send a replacement disc at no charge. They requested that I send a pic of my disc with the current date written in marker and that's all they needed. I got my new disc in the mail a few weeks later, played perfectly.
3. Universal released claimd 4K + Bluray release of A Quiet Place Part II but Bluray is not include. If order it since then online website there send you both that 4K and seperate Bluray release. But a local store who visit sometimes proofs again there know nothing.
Biggest gripes:
-Poor packing for shipments - DAMAGE!
-Shrink wrapping / wrinkled cases
-Cheap cases / Eco cases
-HEAVY grain or NO grain
-Disney
-Scratches on NEW discs!
gas outs
Wrinkled cases are awful. But nothing on your list bothers me more than Disney!! 😂
Great video Ken! Looking forward to more in 2023.

We choose what to buy and when.
Friday the 13th was never scary in any lighting condition.
You made me laugh with your number one. Cream factory. That's classic.

Good ol' Cream Factory.
@@walter2695 Agreed!
Not a mistake on the cover but in the end credits of Wayne’s World they list Rob Lowes character as ‘Benjamin Oliver’ and in the movie he introduces himself to Wayne and Garth as Benjamin Caine. -nerd facts
Scream factory is dominating the list. Congrats boys.
Double dipping from Blu-ray to a mediocre 4K version really pissed me off. See Fatal Attraction & Planes, Trains, and Automobiles for reference.
Ken I forgot to leave a comment on the other video but the blu ray hunt when you was yelling in the intro was hilarious 😂😂🤣🤣
Yes Ken! Blu ray cases for years have had the grease. 100% with you those people are full of it to not acknowledge seeing it anywhere else.
Lmao I was wondering this whole time of why some of my movies had this randomly,I was thinking someone was secretly Taking my discs out when I wasn't home or something🤣
This my jam right here boy, 4k goodness or rather 4k trash
Ninja, the Violent Sorceror had the spelling of "sorcerer" corrected on the cover of the VHS. It's misspelled on-screen.
I don't know if it counts, but the title screen says "I'll Never Forget What's'isname," but the DVD cover splits "What's 'Isname" into two words.
Those Halloween movies are better than H Ends, that’s for sure
The nintendo 3ds game Resident Evil Revelations misspelled as Revelaitons on the spine.
the grease was on all my Transformers 1-4 4K releases..The grease also was on the actual discs..just had to wipe them
How many times? I can’t seem to get my cases clean.
@@SumDumGy You have to use a microfiber cloth. Had to go over them several times..
@@retromediaguy I’m half tempted to soak mine in warm distilled water and detergent. What a hassle.
Unfortunately, he never mentioned the actual controversy about the release, which is the removal of the “fade to white” scene transitions.
Grease Grease too much damn Grease Ken!!!!! Loved the ending 🤣👌🏽great vid 👍🏽
I wish they come out with all THE FRIDAY 13TH MOVIES COME OUT ON 4K asap
I'm a fan of the F13 transfer. It gives you a sense of realism/being there because If you've ever been to a campground/the woods at night it's pitch black.
I wasn't upset to much about the evil dead remake 4k to much,I ended up getting it for around $20 or lower I believe but I do definitely agree that it should of had more to it. Like a blu-ray and maybe a poster or something along with it especially for the price they was asking for. Transfer was great for an upscale to me but other then that it was lacking package wise
Also, the Shout Factory of Platoon is an all time bad release for an all time great film
I heard some rumblings about Platoon as well. Still need to check it out!
Same here, I got it for Christmas and haven’t seen it yet, but it makes me happy that he likes it, can’t wait to see it! 😊
I thought it looked great! Definitely check it out man!
Another recent Mis-label was the UK edition of the Harry Potter Steelbook collection. Part 7 had a typo on the front cover: “Harry Potter and the Deaithly Hallows”
Yes… “Deaithly” instead of “Deathly”
What a great topic! Looking forward to the summery
My worst 4k transfer is without a doubt Terminator 2 Judgment Day, we definitely deserved a better transfer for such a iconic action Masterpiece 👊👊📽
What have been nice if they included the Director’s cut too. I need to hang onto my Blu-ray for that.
Scream just announced the March release slate: The Exorcist 3 4k, Dr. Giggles blu ray and Dead Silence 4k
Just give us Summer Rental on blu ray, and What about Bob?
Greasy case and grease discs on Child's Play 4Ks
Escape from LA needing to send replacement disc
I agree absolutely with the Friday the 13th 4k. I thought it was beautiful.
Two comments, one the only thing that bothered me was the disappearance of media from best buy and Walmart in Canada.
Second I hate to say this but complaining about a package not having a bluray in it along with the 4k isn't a controversy- its stupidity. Read what your getting before you buy it.
I never learned to read!
The grease from the off-gassing on the cheap plastic cases can cause respiratory issues. A few here and there probably won’t be an issue, but if you have a large collection then you may want to replace these individual cases.
Don’t sniff your cases.
Our car dashboards do the same thing and that’s right in our face. If either is a threat, it’s the car.
@@SumDumGy Car interior’s are made of a higher quality material than some of these cases, so there’s that…
@@donsimpsonshead8809 Higher quality may not be less hazardous to health.
I have not checked here and now but I believe that Frozen planet 2 on 4K disk is meant to have Dolby Atmos audio, it does not
The movie that really gets me is not physical media - and that's the rub!
What worries me is that unwarranted criticism could end up harming the future of physical media in the long run.
man shout factory had a rough year🤣🤣🤣
I'll add one that should gain traction:
Severin Films, The Changeling 4k and the red skin tones.
Agree with you about Friday the 13th transfer. Haven't watched Heat 4k yet, but will likely agree there as well. Director intent is what matters most.
But he didn’t even address the actual flaw/controversy. I haven’t heard anyone complain it’s too dark.

Hahahaha! I love how passionate you became over grease gate.
Sony quite with releasing movies/tvseries on any format in NL/BE unofficial since 1 Jan 2022 but it means actualy count for every movie since July 2021. No Ghostbusters 3, for example. Means Only Vod.

I heard that heat looked brighter and better on a OLED compared to other different TV's that not an OLED but idk how true that is

There’s an irony, or maybe a hypocrisy(?) in your transition from closing out #9 to opening #8, when you say people made a big deal out of something maybe they shouldn’t have, then you immediately open the next with saying something was a big deal but may not have been to “you.”
This is a list of flawed releases that sparked some range of controversy among collectors.
What was disappointing about the Pirates 4k release??? I heard everything put the thing lol

Pay the money and have the best quality and judge these transfers properly. 😉

I heard about that, but not much noise. A shame though.
Remember this was 1 DVD out of thousands and was not a main stream issues
Laserdisc from Japan had a major quality control issues of fake or poorly made discs that were flying apart when being played.

True Lies on Disney+ in the U.K…..HD only!

The Sailor Guardians do sound a bit samey at times.
That grease is actually a coating they put on the disc to protect it, sometimes it gets on the covers but it doesn’t affect the play quality.
@@JTOwens89 oh ok I’ll have to check that out and keep that in mind.
