It only does the regeneration after few hundred miles or whenever the sensor deems it necessary. And the particles in question are filtered mostly to decrease the amount of particles in the air that we breathe in, as the particles cause cancer over time. Fewer particles means less cancer for everyone.
they aim for effeciency so they dont want it to goes active most of the time, and in general, they need it to fail periodicaly so the cost keeps commin 🤷♂️
The idea is to trap the soot, and burn most of it into gases that aren't as harmful as these particulates and soot. Pretty neat tech to be honest. It's either the DPF or kill the planet.
Instead of having this troublesome filter system, couldn't you just theoretically tune the truck to run a bit leaner to burn off more of the unburnt fuel?
Yes, this is used for smaller diesels like the ones you see on new Skid Steers and equipment. They don’t require a DPF since the engines have been tuned to run clean. Removing the DPF significantly increased my fuel mileage and I know my truck will last longer
@@sp4youtubeno, diesel always running lean and that makes EGT cooler, so less wear and tear. Rich AFR diesel increase EGT temp, means higher combustion chamber temp, it’s quite opposite of the petrol engine
@@andikappradana The EGR is for NOx abatement and the DPF for soot filtration. The whole idea of the EGR is to reduce the combustion temperatures at peak NOx formation, but the tradeoff is more soot formation. That's what I meant to convey.
@@andikappradana The EGT leaving through the exhaust pipe is cooler because of the lean nature of the exhaust, i.e. more CO2, N2, O2 etc. The gasoline engine exhaust on the other hand are rich in HC, and have a much lower O2 content, giving them relatively higher EGTs compared to the diesel engine exhaust - perfect for a TWC to eliminate NOx. It's the fuel economy that makes these gasoline engines inferior to diesel engines ... 🖖.
So the filter picks up the dirty particulates that we don't want to go into the air laying under the ground. Which that dirty stuff comes from diesel fuel. But then we introduce more diesel fuel to burn off the byproduct that was caught in the filter. After we burn that stuff out of the filter where does it go. It is still made up of the same stuff just in a smaller form. It still ends up in the air and on the ground. And they call this a solution.
although i hate the dpf and the regens i managed to control it and i give it when i m on Autobahn, fortunately i m happy because when a broken diesel it's in front of me or when an old diesel it's near and smells that nsaty stuff i start to sneeze immediately
According to a mechanic friend, all DEF does is make the black fumes, a truck normally, makes clear. It's essentially a dye. It does NOTHING for the environment.
So to clean the filter of contaminants from fuel, you burn more fuel. EPA logic hard at work I see.

That's like saying less nuclear fallout is better.
yeah we can take it like that
@@Badjoe117mines stuck in regen, try again
That's momentarily, till the DPF is cleaned, and then the engine is switched back to normal running conditions.
This is great because it will help offset the massive new emissions caused by creating and charging electric vehicles 😉
Don't forget about children mining cobalt for batteries in Africa. They also want breathe fresh air.
And what about the smoke from big factories 😢😢😢
The logic is something like "let's collect it over time so we can dump it in one go" 😮
Exactly, Also dumping Money and time.

Would be at the cost of fuel economy, more of other emissions, and probably more engine wear and tear.

Thankyou
dpf increases fuel consumption and co2 soot doesn't heat globe as co2 does ocd leads to increase in fuel and heat in earth
