Back to the tried and true YZ250 from 99-2024. Beat bikes ever, just read the bike mags. In the right hands down, better.

    I own 4 YZs 3 are 250s , the other one is a 144. To me these are one of greatest dirt bikes. I’m saying that, because it’s way easier to tune down a powerful bike than it is to boost more power out of not so powerful bike. The YZ has been classed as the best overall dirt bikes by all the dirt bike magazines. One of the best things about the YZ is the fact that they have the “biggest” parts availability! No other bike comes close!! All those Euro bikes are great, however, they cost $$$ and weigh considerably more (electric start, battery for lights, ext.) not to mention if your bike is 4-5 years old, the parts might not be available or your bike so will be in the garage for a long time before parts are available. NO THANKS!! I love my 02 YZ250, 05 YZ250, 14 YZ250, 07 YZ144. So glad I own them parts aren’t a problem…..at all!

    I built my 02 Honda CR250R into a trail machine.
    Large Clark gas tank.
    Huge flywheel weight.
    Stator / headlight.
    18” rear with trials tire.
    And a big rear sprocket.
    I bought the CR in ‘02 when it was brand new and I was a much younger man.
    Over the years I have been able to adapt to my new riding needs.
    Between the mods and tons of seat time, I’m able to make up for many of its shortcomings. But those new Husky and KTM 250’s with the EFI, and electric start have been calling my name. 😅

    I've got a Beta XTrainer, have ridden some other Betas (just not the 250) and ride with a bunch of other guys on Betas. There's really not much difference between the RR and Race Edition models. The suspension is the biggest difference, the RR models have open cartridge Sachs suspension and the Race Editions having closed cartridge KYB suspension. The RR models have oil injection, the Race Editions require pre-mix. There's some trick parts on the Race Edition models like billet foot pegs. I think the Race Edition engines have polished ports, but there's no difference with the gearing between respective RR and Race Edition models, that I know of.
    The XTrainer is about 7/8 size compared to any of the RR models. There's practically no difference in the frame of the 200RR and 300RR; they're both full sized dirt bikes. So if size in an issue, the XTrainer is probably a better option than the 200, even with the extra 100cc. The XTrainer is tuned in such a way that the power delivery is extremely linear. The 200 requires the rider to be in the perfect gear while the XTrainer can be put in a gear and left there for most trail riding. You can just ride it and focus on controlling the bike, picking the right line, and all that. So, I'd put a beginner on the XTrainer before putting them on the 200RR or 200 Race Edition. I'd go so far as saying the XTrainer is just as easy to ride as the CRF250F, but it's lighter and has more upgrade potential as the skills grow. It's just a pipe and power valve adjustment away from having the power of the 300RR. The two bikes I'd recommend for older teens or young adults to start with would be the CRF250F or the XTrainer. If they have any visions of getting into super technical stuff, I'd recommend the XTrainer. If not, the CRF250F is what I'd recommend.

      I'm 60 and have had a few different dirt bikes. My skill level is probably on the better end of the beginner category. I just got an XTrainer and so far it seems great. I'm 5'11" and 165 pounds, and this bike's size gives me more confidence. There have been a few times where I'm pretty sure I would have dropped my previous YZ250 but kept the Beta up. The electric start is awesome, and even cold the bike starts instantly. My plan is to do some enduro/trail rides and I think this is the right bike. So far all my riding has been in the rain mode which is plenty of power for me.

      @MotocrossHideout  9 місяців тому +1

      Hey Nathan, thanks for watching! The KX85, as you probably know, is a motocross race bike, so the power is going to be snappy and it will also require more maintenance. If you're using proper techniques and ride within your comfort zone, then you might be able to handle it just fine, but I still recommend a trail bike (such as a CRF150F or KLX140L) because it's easier to ride and won't need as much maintenance.

    Hey, I'm 6 foot and 220-pound fit, I have some experience riding my buddy's KTM 350(4 hours of ride time). Do you think a KTM 250/300 XCW is too much for a beginner?

    • @MotocrossHideout
      @MotocrossHideout  9 місяців тому

      It depends on the riding you'll be doing, but even at your size I wouldn't recommend it if you're a beginner. Nobody needs that much power riding off-road, especially if you're doing single-track trails.
      Can you handle it? Probably. But you'd have more confidence and greatly reduce your risk of crashing and getting hurt if you started on a "slower" bike, such as the CRF250F or KLX300R.

      @@MotocrossHideout I live in central Texas we have a lot of rocky slow single track, there are also a lot on nice single track but my end goal is to get into enduro.
      Also, I was wondering if the power is too much for me have you ever had any luck with G2 throttle tamers? I heard that they’re pretty good.

    • @MotocrossHideout
      @MotocrossHideout  9 місяців тому +1

      Okay, gotcha. I hear this all the time and it's usually because people don't want to "outgrow" their first bike in the first year, which is totally understandable. If that's the case, you should watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/ui1-9IJHQnY/v-deo.html
      As far as the G2 throttle tamer, yes, it can help smooth out low-end power, but it's really just a "band-aid" fix and will slow down your trail riding skills in the beginning. I hear about guys (and girls) all the time buying a 250, 300, or 350 and then "restricting" it with a throttle tamer or other mods but then they still end up being intimidated by "whiskey throttle".
      The real problem? They haven't learned the basic techniques of trail riding a dirt bike.
      Does that make sense?

    • @jzezulka2357
      @jzezulka2357 9 місяців тому

      @@MotocrossHideout yeah, I do completely understand to where you will just always be scared of the bike and never ride with confidence but I do think gear plays a factor to this as my buddies told me you were eventually fall no matter what bike you’re riding. However with a bigger bike the crash will be harder because you can whiskey throttle straight to a tree😂. I want to get into riding dirt bikes the right way. I have bought some really top-of-the-line gear to make sure that I don’t injure myself too bad I got sg12 motocross boots, shoei helmet, knee braces and a chest protector, with good rib protection.
      Also, I am a college student and I don’t feel like buying another bike down the road, my budget is around 3 to 4 grand maybe I’ll just wait for a nice used beta X trainer or just get a WR 250f. I’ll see whatever comes up first. Thanks for sharing your insight on this I really do appreciate the detailed comments!

    • @MotocrossHideout
      @MotocrossHideout  9 місяців тому +1

      You're welcome - I'm glad you want to start out the right way! That's smart to buy quality gear :)
      I hate getting hurt! 😅
      Yes, you can definitely crash on any bike, but the best way to prevent it is by learning how to properly ride, which is exactly what I coach people on to prevent common crashes.
      If you were a close friend, and absolutely had to get an enduro bike, I'd much rather see you on an Xtrainer than a KTM 250/300. 😉

    • @MotocrossHideout
      @MotocrossHideout  6 місяців тому

      It's because they are tuned for high RPM power and have very little low-end torque, making it feel "snappy" and harder to ride if you're just cruising around. I don't know much about the MTX 125, but it looks to be more durable/reliable and easier to ride if you're just a casual rider.

  • @Mike-uh2gw
    @Mike-uh2gw Місяць тому

    If you are a newbie, get something with a starter. It's worth the money. Actually, you should be getting a DRZ or something like it. No it won't win a race against a race bike but it will take a beating and just keep trucking. These new bikes break easier, they suck lots of gas and take tons of maintenance, which is expensive and time consuming. They are funner to ride but you pay a serious premium for it. Sorta like having a girlfriend who is a ten vice a 6.
