So many good memories, that was my freshman year as part of the Hawkeye Marching Band. Without a doubt the greatest game I have ever witnessed first hand.
I was lucky enough to be at this game with my dad and grandfather, had never heard a crowd erupt quite like that, was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard.
I remember watching this game with my uncle and my dad and they are both PSU fans and I am not so I was so happy to see Iowa win this game, always got to pull for the underdog.
man J. Koulianos was the whole team lol guy was a beast. Iowa always has that one kick ass player like him and akrim wadly. Im a buckeye fan but still secretly like to watch those guys play lol
+Julia Frazier My junior year. The next season was better, but no game in my 5 years there (took a victory lap) was more fun. Best of times (2009) and worst of times (2007 - we lost to Western Michigan and missed bowling) during my run.
As the all- too- brief Shonn Greene era was coming to an end, this night marked the birth of the legendary Stanzi- era! Imagine if Greene had returned in 2009 for his senior season, the Hawkeyes would have at least played for a national championship if not won it.
Noah Penrod very true, both games we were 5-4 going into that game and both games our opponent was ranked 3rd in the nation and 9-0. Both games were also decided by a field goal. Also in both games the hawks beat them by 1 point and the fans rushed the field. Amazing resemblance.
That call on penn states first drive will go down as an all time bad call. Iowa player comes out of the pile *in the endzone* with the ball: 4th down Penn State!
You guys are whining about this, for real? Iowa scored a touchdown almost immediately on the subsequent possession, so the call, right or wrong, is irrelevant. And considering the ridiculous PI call on Iowa's last possession, without which Iowa almost certainly loses, you have NOTHING to complain about. Iowa's win here was a gift.
@@aaronrider4051 Lol Iowas was unranked, Iowa had looked really bad in big ten play that year. If Penn State was a real BCS Title Contender they would have blown them out. As usual people come to Kinnick, expecting a cake walk, and Iowa shows up. Hell Iowa could be tragic and i'd still be careful overlooking them in November expecting an easy game.
@@aaronrider4051he’s just stating the obvious that it was a trash call that cost Iowa 7 pints at the time. PI was close but psu defender was there a touch early.
@@DevinEMILEIowa was only 5-4 before this game but 4 losses by a combined 12 points. That’s far from bad. They weren’t a top 10 but finished 9-4 and #20 and very easily could’ve been 12-0 and playing for the title.
@@Michael-Boyer you Hawkeye fans are moronic about this. You don't get to complain about losing 7 points when you score 7 points immediately thereafter. That call was irrelevant. Scirrotto was NOT there early and it was NOT pass interference.
Iowa never fails to surprise every season, they came into 2010 unranked and go to the orange bowl and win as the underdogs, the next season they upset mizzou in the insight bowl, the next season sure they lose in the insight bowl to a formerly ranked number one team earlier in the season in oklahoma, but they played some great games and played one of the best games of the year against michigan. and now they are gonna be a great team for years to come with you players~ In Kirk We Trust
I've watched that play several times myself. That's either a touchdown for Iowa or its a safety. There's absolutely no evidence it was recovered by Penn State on the 1 yard line.
I remember I was at a Pitt-Louisville game at Heinz Field and the crowd erupted when Penn State lost to Iowa, they kept showing the score update and when it went final, the whole place errupted
What instrument did you play? Though I did not attend Iowa, I received a scholarship for football, but I studied music in school. So being in the music dept, and on the football team made me realize one thing...the marching band spent just as much time dedicated to their craft as the football team did. Furthermore, the conductors were almost bigger pricks than the football coaches.
I think it's because Ferentz is from Pennsylvania so he really gets up for games against Penn State. It could also be because Iowa is wearing a variation of the Steelers' uniforms so it confuses the football gods of Pennsylvania. ;-)
+Quinn Douglas It was nuts. We don't get many night games in Kinnick, so the late fall 2:30 kicks are the best. You don't have to get up early to tailgate. You show up, pound 3 beers, have lunch, sip on beers until kickoff. Kickoff under the sun, finish under the lights. And this game. Jesus Christ.
I was sick for a month and PSU folks are still mad at Daryl Clark but the defense let them drive 55 yards with the season on the line. Not a championship defense
18:50: not only is this not PI (watch the Iowa-Iowa State game from 2019 to see an Iowa DB make an identical play and correctly not be called for it), but Iowa's right guard blatantly holds PSU's defensive end.
And for many Iowa fans who want to disagree, take it up with the rules of the game, not me: "Defensive pass interference is contact beyond the neutral zone by a Team B player whose intent to *impede an eligible opponent is obvious* and could prevent the opponent the opportunity of receiving a catchable forward pass." If the intent to impede is not obvious, then it isn't PI. Scirrotto, the DB, made absolutely no effort to impede Stross. The two were both clearly playing on the football - neither tried to impede the other, and so there could have been no PI against either. Stanzi's pass was a desperate heave into double coverage and the refs bailed Iowa out.
I have to wonder what the difference between running into versus roughing the kicker was in 2008, because by today’s rules, that would have been running into. At least from what I see.
Idk bud don't ask me xD did you know Hayden Fry painted the visiting team's locker room pink because he took a physiology class and learned pink makes the mind more relaxed so he wanted the other team to kinda get sleepy! "The more you know!" random but true
Zebras gave this game to Iowa. Absolutely horrific PI call at the end. PSU D-line being held/taken down entirety of the game. Still makes me sick to this day; would've gone to the championship game most likely.
Penn State got one of the worst calls I've ever seen when they ruled that fumble was recovered by Clark at the 1. The defender got there waaay early on the PI call, that's called 9/10 times.
This will probably go down as the day in my life that I hugged the most strangers and told them all that I love them. Such a great memory.

I still have no idea how that fumble to start the game was ruled as recovered by Penn State.
Think the refs were trying to help them out because Iowa clearly came up with the ball, should have been an Iowa touchdown
As the all- too- brief Shonn Greene era was coming to an end, this night marked the birth of the legendary Stanzi- era! Imagine if Greene had returned in 2009 for his senior season, the Hawkeyes would have at least played for a national championship if not won it.
I said the same thing as long as Stanzi stayed healthy
This win over Michigan this year and the win against Penn State in 2008 are mirror images of each other
