"Believing" is one of my favorite songs from their new album, THE OTHER ONE, if not my favorite, alongside "Mirror Mirror". "MAYA" and specially "METALIZM" are pretty crazy as well. As you said, the songwriting is top notch on all their songs. Well, it's actually one of their signature aspects.
Every single new song and the whole concept album is so different from anything they did before. So, you will need to go back to their previous albums once you finish this one. 😁

The moment I heard that vocaloid (Hatsune Miku) style i knew Yuyoyuppe (aka YuppeMetal) was behind this song which also reminds me to Kagerou, and no wonder why, he's the one behind that song too and he gives that BM style unique sound in songs like Karate, Rondo Of Nightmare, Megitsune and Monochrome recently. MoaMetal is also a fan of his work despite the ridiculous time signatures that torture them lol
We also got the first full English lyrics of this new album after a while and the first time released in Japan. They already got three songs entirely in English but those were released internationally.
This was written and recorded 5 years ago and you can even hear a more childish vocals. Like they said, this is a collaboration between past and present selves, and is about the fact that you don’t see the same thing that others see, the English lyrics express a different personality and pov.

I been following Babymetaru since the 2010 when they started and yeah studio version are not the same as live performance, I guess they do it on purpose but trust me live all of this songs from the concept album THE OTHER ONE sounds way better and heavier, you should check their older stuff is gold I recommend you "Tales of destinies" "GJ" "Sis Anger" "Amore" "uki uki midnight".
I think that's interesting that they have different versions of the same song. I haven't really checked out the live performances from them yet but I think that would be interesting to do in the future.
@ I’m not sure how much you know about BABYMETAL’s song production. So apologies if I’m going over stuff you’re aware of.
BM tend to bring in favoured writers & composers for specific tracks. Some they’ve worked with for a decade or more. On many of the studio tracks the composers and a handful of session musicians play all the instruments.
For live performances BM have the East & West Kami bands. The Eastern Kami’s are the Japanese musicians you see in many of the early BM videos. Aoyama Hideki, BOH, Leda Cygnus, Takayoshi Ohmura, ISAO. From 2019 they also introduced the Western Kami’s, these are Anthony Barone and the former members of Galactic Empire, Chris Kelly, Clint Tustin, C.J Masciantonio.
These two bands have their own interpretations of the studio tracks. The Western band tend to be more brutal, the Eastern band more melodic.
The Western band just performed in Japan at the recent PIA Arena MM shows. Which was effectively the launch of the new era of BM, with new member Momoko. They will perform the 24 dates in Europe when supporting Sabaton on their Arena tour.
As others have said, live both bands are much heavier than anything you hear on studio tracks. Only one concert is currently available that features THE OTHER ONE tracks (5 tracks). The other 5 where performed at PIA Arena MM and will be broadcast in June/July.
Oh, and one interesting point. BM don’t consider TOO their 4th album. It’s a concept album with some experimental songs. Believing was actually written and recorded (the vocals at least) 5 years ago. Su even mentions how you can hear her younger voice.
So far, I think this might actually be my favourite track on the new album. It’s got just that right mix of heavy and catchy, and the heavily processed vocals actually works well. Plus Moa gets some lines!

I found myself liking BELIEVING for its progressiveness, MAYA for its headbangingness, and METALIZM for its quirkyness... Babymetal music never cease to pleasantly surprise me for the last decade :)

Thanks for this reaction/breakdown, their are definitely more gems on this album. Maya and Metalizm are probably the most interesting from a metal perspective ?
Some of the other songs are less metallic or heavy, Time wave (genre mashing), Light and Darkness (poppier) and The Legend (slower, more ballad type song).
As a non-musician I've heard people say online such songs still have their interesting elements. And surprises.

About Believing, that's most MOA singing with her voice heavily processed, I think the song is about them, but mainly about her indeed.
The production in TOO is their best ever, technically speaking is superior to any other BM studio album, musically I still think Metal Resistance has the edge, it was so fresh at the time, it's shocking even today.
