Between the two cars I would deathly pick the Cadillac over the BMW. Why because I own a 745 I I’ve had it for eight years now and let me tell you the cost of owning this thing for repairs is ridiculously through the roof long-term the Cadillac is the better deal BMW may have more options but in the long run you’ll love the Cadillac.
Well said. It's hard to predict which new cars are going to have the most problems down the road. Early CT6 models experienced some transmission issues, we're not sure if it was limited to the 2016 models or not. But both cars are going to be costly either way, even if they don't break down both have complicated mechanicals and electrical systems compared to cars even 10 years ago.
MARCELLUS CUNNINGHAM all the Caddys are expensive to maintain but they're cheaper than the Bimmers. I drive a '04 Deville and the parts are still expensive. But I still want a CT6 😉
Thanks! We're hoping we get the chance to feature the 2019 CT6-V as a sendoff for the model line, we really liked this CT6, even picked it as our car we'd have taken in 2018 if we could!
We think so too, there's a lot going on for the price and it does come in less expensive than the base model S-Class or 7 Series. It's a good step for Cadillac to start working on their full-size market.
We did, something we’ve been trying to ensure doesn’t happen with our recent longer format episodes. We had hoped to talk about it in a subsequent episode on this specific car but technical issues with it during our second week meant we couldn’t film a follow up.
We did, and we’re excited! I forget if we mentioned the potential for a V model during the video, but it’s something we talked about at some point if it didn’t make it in the final cut. We’re definitely looking forward to drive it once it hits the fleet out here.
I'm looking forward to it too! It's warming up a little bit, but we're likely going to be in freezing temps with chances of snow for at least another month. We're hoping it'll get warmer soon though, there's plenty of sports car we want to feature without having winter tires on them.
It definitely does! Cadillac has stuck to their core design language over the decades. We had the chance to feature an 89 De Ville a few months back, the taillights are similar that if neither car had badges you'd know they both were Cadillacs.
Good deal for sure! I was tempted to pick one of these up last year, but I'd go for the final year of production as it got the much-appreciated face-lift.
I heard Cadilac has had poor reliability with this model. Has the 2018 model improved? If my best friend depreciation works his magic on this model (and I predict it will be significant), in three years you should be able to pick one of these up for around $40,000. The car has been on the market for two years now and I can't remember seeing a single one, and I live in Montreal where you can see 7 series and S class cars here and there
I think globally only 9k of these were sold in the US in 2016, probably even fewer here. Our GM rep told us that the new CT6-PHEV will only have about 20-25 sent up here, which is too bad, we would have loved to feature it. We also haven't seen any CT6s on the road. The only issue we've heard about the CT6 was with the transmission, some owners of the 2016 models noticed the transmission would jump when coming to a stop, we didn't notice that on this one and it had about 10k km on the clock.
Goodbye CT6.. You will be missed. Last of the V8 Cadillac sedans ever? Buy the 2019 CT6 v sport because luxury V8 Cadillac sedans will be no more in 2020.
Luckily the Blackwing exists for the CT5-V, but yes the CT6 had a lot of potential, it's a shame GM killed it in North America. The Chinese-market version looks very sharp.
That's definitely true, they don't seem to be doing that much with the CT6 right now, aside from some ads for the super cruise control on Facebook, we haven't seen any marketing geared towards this car.
The car is nice, but I still think Lincoln has them beat. The steering wheel is a big miss. Its too complicated, with the buttons all the way at the bottom. For 100k it should feel special. It has all the features, but doesn't package them at all.
We had a quick look at the Continental at the auto show, it's definitely got a 7 Series/S-Class type interior, over this. We're going to try and add some of the clips we took of the Continental into the Showdown we're doing on this in a few weeks.
Totally disagree. I test drove the 2 cars for 2 weeks non stop, the Caddy beats it hands down for me. Don't get me wrong, the Continental is a well made good luxury car, but it's just another Ford Taurus for me with advanced tech
Femi Ogunsola I believe you! Driving the Continental and CT6 back to back is when it becomes obvious which brand is superior and which vehicle is better built ultimately edging ahead.
Did my eyes deceive me? Did I see an MSRP of a 100k for this car? It's a beautiful car so please don't get me wrong, but it is nowhere near worth a $100,000 and is closer to the value of the new Lincoln Continental or Hyundai G90 I believe! I also have to add that I've seen this car the Cadillac CT6 and the Lincoln Continental in person and I think the lincoln is a better looking car inside and out with the exception of the front end other cadillac which I like better.
Your wrong you need to read about this car. Look at the tech into the frame development. Look at the features....this car is cheap for what it is and can do.
100k Canadian or not, this car is the deal. Far better than any of the German luxury brands in my opinion honestly. Lincoln continental has nothing on this car
That's certainly true! We're putting together our Showdown on this CT6 versus the BMW 7 Series right now. There's so much to like about the Cadillac, but the BMW is keeps pulling us back in.
We have heard some complaints from owners about issues with the transmissions. We're going to have this vehicle again in a month, so we'll have the chance to see if it's developed that same slipping issue others have reported.
Hi everyone. Not as bad as people are making it out to be. Only experienced it twice since I bought mine. I have experienced downshift slip before in my previous S class and 7 series.
To be fair, the Galactic Empire was defeated shortly after 'The Empire Strikes Back', and like in the case of the fall of the Empire, it was ultimately the Empire who lead to it's own demise much like Cadillac with the CT6.
We think it's great to see more coming from the US auto markers, we still really like the CT6, we have it booked again in another couple weeks since we liked it so much.
What are you blabbering about? This car, among other great GM products, have been in design years before Trump was even on anybody's radar. I would like to point out it was the Obama administration that bailed out GM and FCA. GM has been doing great since 2010 and their stock shot up 33x higher that same year compared to what it was in late 2008-2009. That, my friend, was long before Trump ever came into the picture. Get a clue.
100k CAD for such a car is dirty cheap... a bmw 750 top trim require 40k € of optionals to get the same level of equipement of this car, so it cost 160k € or 250k CAD ... this exactly car cost slightly less than 100k € in europe, much less than similar german full size luxury cars with same equipement, but nobody buy a cadillac (or a lexus) "becauze is not german cit."
There's certainly a lot more potential with the 7 Series, we filmed one alongside this to see how they compare, and we'll be doing the Showdown on it in a few weeks. The 7 Series we filmed had an MSRP of $138,000 CAD, and that wasn't even fully loaded. Sure, there's a lot with the 7 Series that makes it over the top, but at some point you have to wonder how much is too much.
"Interior fit and finish With the CT6, Cadillac went for plush and rather purposeful instead of lavish. Panels of glossy carbon-fiber trim (wood is available) punctuate the dashboard and door panels. Most other surfaces, including the sides of the center console, are soft to the touch. Lots of cut and sewn panels cover the dashboard, giving an air of craftsmanship. Additional stitching creates an eye-catching pattern on the leather seats. Consumer Reports review of CT6.
I own one. Absolutely the worse new car experience in my lifetime. The crudely shifting 8 speed transmission eventually failed at 2,500 miles and my new Cadillac CT6 had to be gutted for a replacement transmission. LF fender was so misaligned that the drivers door crunched it. Goodyear tires were defective. Rear axle and bearing failed within the first 130 miles on day of delivery. The new transmission is shifting as crudely as the first one. Confused downshifts and clunking 1-2 upshifts. It's an embarrassment. Attractive car, but cheaply made. Clearly, I got a lemon, so shop carefully.
Is yours a 2016 model year by any chance? We did check some Cadillac enthusiast forums and saw complaints about the transmissions in the 2016 model year, but since the 2018 is too new we haven't heard of any real issues. One of our colleagues out in Toronto had the super cruise control fail on them during their drive with this about a month ago, steering wheel locked up completely. We have this car booked again for next week where we'll be taking it on an extended road trip to see if it's developed anything. We dropped it off at 10,000km, by now it might be pushing 12k.
It's a late 2017. The 16's, 17's and 18's have the same powertrain, with no apparent enhancements.Cadillac has been cooperative and sympathetic. Gutting the car for a transmission replacement takes over a week. Service bulletins for transmission programming, shift adapts, fluid changes, apologies, etc., have not brought any relief to owners ..... forcing dealers to write 'performs as designed' when nothing smooths out the shifting. Beautiful sedan, no question, looks stunning in black, but tends to perform crudely.
That's really unfortunate, hopefully they'll be able to figure out what the problem actually is so you can actually enjoy the car! It's one thing when these types of cars start costing a lot 5-10 years down the road, but when it's within the first year it's a huge problem.
@@bill_4888 is it being driven enough for the PAL(performance algorithm logic) to adjust? Most say after programming and the 3rd flush it is only rough when cold. Allot of that is the clutch packs adjusting during break-in for fuel economy.
I wouldn't know. I got rid of it and that beautiful new CT6 ended up in auction. All attempts to get its second 8L45 transmission to shift normally failed. That flawed transmission is the subject of a class action suit filed across 8 states against GM. I replaced the car with a 2019 CT6 with the new 10 speed and it's been perfect.
the car is 518 cm long not 581, 581 is too much even for a full size american sedan...
Thanks for noticing! We definitely missed this on our pre-publish screening of it, there’s always something we make a mistake on ☹️
The Host does a Great Job Evaluating Cars.... !
I certainly appreciate that, thanks! I think I've grown a lot as a presenter since filming this over a year ago.

I really like Cadillac right now.
So do we! This vehicle really changed our opinion about the brand.
Terrific review. Love my XTSVsport
I really enjoyed my time with this car, it's a shame GM killed it off for the North American market.
Nice ride! I hope you get to drive the CT6 VSport soon!
We hope to get the chance to! Might not be until the summer of 2019 but we’re definitely looking forward to it.
German cars are not that much better I'd take a caddy any day
Tell me about it! Had an Audi and it was a piece of junk!
German car repair costs are insane. BMW and Mercedes are no longer reliable. Too much complicated technology
had a BMW it was a piece of crap, have this exactly model and love!
Fair enough
Will be fun to see this car after 3-5 years of depreciation.
Colin Stuart just get a 2015 ct6 now for 31k
Like any full-size luxury car (except the Lexus LS), these will depreciate like crazy. No one holds onto flagships for more than a few years.
Perpetual Radio Networks exactly! Lots of features and luxury for a good price.
Nothing compared to a Mercedes S550's depreciation or BMW.
You missed the 4 wheel steering which is fantastic for parking and handling!

We think so too!
I can't wait for springtime just so you can get out of the snow. Does it ever warm up in the Great White North....lol?

It does have a similar shape and size to the Impala
Kind of. The Omega platform was only used for the CT6 however.
The Cadillac CT6 pleasantly reminds me of the De Ville.
It definitely does! Cadillac has stuck to their core design language over the decades. We had the chance to feature an 89 De Ville a few months back, the taillights are similar that if neither car had badges you'd know they both were Cadillacs.

We can’t argue there! We have this CT6 again this week for further testing, we still love driving it.
Its nice. Design was very much influenced by the s class i see. To succeed GM must advertise and do a lot of marketing work.
