    This is by far one of the best videos I've seen teaching scales. I was expecting a dry "here's the pentatonic, here's the mixolydian, here's the phrygian" like most other videos, but you exceeded every expectation I had. Absolutely phenomenal!

    Dude, you're blowing my mind. I'm a guitarist, and coming at this stuff from blues & rock. But you're showing me great approaches, and explaining it so well. What I really dig is that you show the ideas musically. A lot of the concepts I had, but not how to use them. Also for me, I am starting to understand and incorporate into my playing some of the things jazz & other keyboard players do so well, so it doesn't sound "scalish" or like typical guitar sounds. Thanks for some great videos - not just for keys!

    There's 141K viewers, of this great content. Surely, the anointing you don't honour, will never be part of you. It's a universal cocept. Apprenticeships are based on that concept. I propose, that we should all donate, say at least 10 dollars per subscriber to enable Corey to produce more and more of this great content. Disclosure: I have never met Corey and he has not asked me to solicit for donations. I only discovered the channel less than 2 months ago all the way-downunder (Oz). Thank you so much! Well, I went to Clemson University for my undergrad and Georgia State University for my master's degree. But I had some really great teachers - In the jazz world, my teachers were Hazen Bannister (my first jazz piano teacher), Tim Haden (took me under his wing playing tons of gigs), Keith Davis (phenomenal really deep jazz pianist), and Kevin Bales (the teacher I've patterned so much of my teaching and playing after). In gospel music, I've learned so much from guys like Brandon Williams (taught me to play the organ), and Erik Miller (who I've patterned the way I play gospel music after). I also learned quite a bit from guys on UA-cam and studying a TON of theory books. So it's a combination of a lot of places. Hope this helps!

    Corey, it never occurred to me to think of the melodic-minor scale working over a II-7 (as a parallel scale). The closest I might have come to that would have been using the C# as a chromatic approach to the C natural or the D. But wow, you've opened my mind and ears!

  • @BrianMegilligan
    @BrianMegilligan 4 роки тому

    This is so great!
    for 12:18, I would say the pentatonic a tritone away sounds better when the left hand is playing a dominant with a flat five. In this case, the sound is probably stronger when you're playing a tritone sub in the spot for the dominant. Still play the right pentatonic a tritone from the left hand sub, but it sounds a little sweeter to me.

    Merry fascinating! You have expanded my mind with the Diminished scales! I love how exotic they sound when played over minors and major7ths ! I love how you stack fourths in your right hand! I'll love to see a video on when and how to use alt chords and blues licks! Keep up the God work! My cup runneth over with gratitude!

    For any viewers who have done Classical training including Hannon exercises - you can look at the patterns Hannon used, and apply them to each of these jazz scales.

    I am pleased and honored to have awesome teachers like you, Oliver Phren, and a very few others, with the talent and good taste to give us so good material...I have spent all day just with two of your classes...AMAZING!!!! p.s could you tell me about your keyboard? it's a hardware piano? I do not get this feeling with any piano plugin...Thanks!

      Hello! Sorry for the late reply. The keyboard I'm playing is the Yamaha S90 ES. But I believe I used the Ravenscroft 275 or Keyscape Yamaha C7 vst. Unfortunately, I don't remember which one it was...

    I would you to help us about independence of the two hands. How can we play with the left hand when we are improvising. The different ways to do it. Because, I noticed that is what makes the real essence of the improvisation. I was playing these exercises you give but I couldn’t sound really good like you. Cause of my left hand colors. The rythm the color with the left hand is giving life to your improvisation. I just want some exercise to sound good as well. Thanks again. For this nice video.
