You have the money to buy a 6517B and you use a dumpster shield box? Not great practice.

I don't understand your take on this. I think it's brilliant education on shielding and dealing with signals picked up by high resistances, demonstrated realtime. Had he used a driven-guard sub-chassis in a mu-metal enclosure with triaxial connections, in an oven, or whatever "great practice" would be, the information content would have been drastically reduced.
